RE: long, long trip with old truck

Thanks Bill for the reply. I have every confidence in the Cummings engine but somewhat concerned in the transmission. As I read posts from more experienced RV' ers like yourself I see these special trannies and coolers and suspension. I am wondering if it is necessary for the weight of my 8281 Rockwood. The Ford 4R100 tranny is the the weak link in the otherwise bullet proof 7.3L trucks. That's the reason for the tranny upgrades and larger coolers.

I'd feel like I had hit the lottery with a truck that new.

RE: Jt Strong Arms or Steady Fast

5 reply's and still no answer. I am wanting answers from people who have used both, and can compare the two. I had JT's on my first 5er and I have SteadyFast on my current one. I believe the results are about the same. The SteadyFast were a easier install and easier to use. SteadyFast customer service is great. Just my .02.

RE: Transmission temperature max of 240 deg. sound right?

I have a 2000 7.3l F250 and have had the 6.0 oil cooler installed. You do not want to be at 240 for very long. Check the smell of your tranny fluid on the dipstick. If it smells burned, you have been too hot. I also have the BTS transmission installed and I do not see temps above 160 anymore. I run Scheffers synthetic fluid in the truck as well. X-2. I have the John Wood Towmaster tranny with the 6.0 tranny cooler. The stock 4R100 tranny is the weak link if you are towing heavy.

RE: Straight Talk Phone Service

I wanted to remain on the AT&T network, I called Straight Talk customer service and they told me which phones are AT&T. The code on the phone packaging is GSM-A for AT&T.

RE: Cedar Creek 36CKTS vs Big Horn 3610RE

Well I now own a 2013 Landmark by Heartland which is the Top of the Line for Heartland. After taking it back to the dealer for a lot of little things for the first 6 months everything is good now. I do not like the quality of the CC nor Forest River. My parents had some major problems with there FR and it was even shipped back to the factory after 1 year and a leak developed that ruined the roof front and rear caps and the side wall. They replaced all of it out of warranty. My parents never saw it fixed because they traded it back to the dealer for another brand. I personally like the Montana we have owned 3 with no problems. What brand of Forest River? CC? Or a entry level unit? "They replaced all of it out of warranty" Sounds like pretty good service to me! Cardinal It had so many roof leaks the side walls and interior walls looked like a Golf Ball with so many Bubbles. CC's have hung walls, I've never seen one with delam walls.

RE: Suitable tow vehicle for 5th wheeler

12,260# is a piece of cake for the 7.3L F250. Many on this forum are pulling heavier.

RE: 2002 F350 Lariat with 7.3L Diesel

If the price is right, snap it up. True, tranny is weak link. When the factory tranny goes replace it with a John Wood towmaster and a 6.0L 31 row cooler. Install gauges and a DP chip, 4" turbo back exhaust and you can run with the big dogs and get a lot better mileage. There is no cat, EGR, or DPF on these trucks. Engines are simple enough for the average guy to perform the minimal maintenance required. Also, with the DP chip you can get the DECEL tune that serves as an exhaust brake.

RE: Fallen in love with a Carri-lite

yep... and anything above requires a noncommercial Class A... which includes a driving test. It's the non-commercial class A which is the issue.. not the endorsement. And yes, the duelly would be undersized for the rig. I just got the non commercial class A. No driving test required.

RE: Fallen in love with a Carri-lite

A fifth wheel between 10,000 and 15,000# require that you have a "restriction 41-may tow fifth wheel recreational trailer between 10,000 and 15,000 lbs. GVWR"
