RE: 2009 1/2 ton comparo by Edmunds
I personally dont like the idea, being in the construction field this is a bad idea, the side of truck will look like hell in short order, all scratched up.
RE: 2009 1/2 ton comparo by Edmunds
I like my ram, pulls like a champ, but the rear coil suspension is not that great for taking wieght. When I hook up the tt, it really droops, takes another link or 2 more on dist bars than my 2000 f150 did to get er level.
RE: Truck Sway
Wait a bloody minute.
The push-pull you feel from a passing semi is NOT sway. It is normal. You will always feel it, no matter what.
Give us a break!!
The poster said... "QUOTE" ..when I'm towing my trailer (2008 Keystone 30' TT) my truck feels like its all over the road. "QUOTE".
I wish folks would start taking marginal, to "less than marginal" set ups more seriously. There is no excuse for driving a combination with any kind of handling or stability issues.
Lets promote safe and comfortable towing, not the white knuckel, AWTH* rides.
*accident waiting to happen
Did I miss something ??
The statement that mkirsch made I would have to totaly agree with.
That type of push pull you will always feel a bit.
RE: Towing with an "09 Ram 1500...
The new 09 ram tows great, though I do agree with the squatting issue.
Moving from the Fords 5.4 to the Dodge hemi is like night and day, lots of power and the tow haul mode works great.
RE: Awning..How Often Do You Put Yours Out?
Thats number 4 on the list.
1 back camper in and level
2 plug in shore power
3 hook up to water
4 awning out
oh ya and number 5, grab a beer from the fridge.
RE: Backing TT into driveway, slightly uphill
Dont use the casters !
You should avoid hitting or dragging the frame or bumper completely, there not made for that. Twisting the frame can cause ugly damage to the structure of you rv, buckle siding, crack corners and so on.
Use the boards whenever you can.
RE: Backing TT into driveway, slightly uphill
I agree, get yourself some boards, right before you start to drag, place them behind your tires, you will run into this alot.
RE: Good writeup on the Ram 1500
I was a Ford guy, owned 2 F150's, loved them both, but the salesman couldnt sell me a new one.
Price, warrantee and looks sold the Dodge for me.
Ford couldnt touch them, believe me, I tried.

3 year 360000 mile powertrain warrantee
Very boxie
Dodge 1500 CC(lots of goodies)

RE: Red Illuminated Rocker Switch
Sounds like its the indicator/reset button that shows your water heater didnt light, on gas that is.
Does your water heater also run on electric ?
Check your manual.
RE: Tub will not drain unless holding tank valve is open
This is the first indicator that the gray tank is full on mine and probabaly most units, its the lowest point.
Does anything come out of your gray valve when you open it ?
RE: Towing in the Mountains
Hey EagleScout,
Im not sure about the new f150 ratings(I heard there much better) but my 2000 with the 5.4 and the 3:55, did ok with my current trailer. I travel the mountains of PA quite often, I would not win any races on inclines or merging onto the highways but it did ok.
I never used cruise while towing, it would shift way to often.
I never really used my lower gears either, I just let the tranny do its thing.
Your set up seems fine, the truck should handle that trailer pretty well.
Leave this soak for awhile, you will get some other opinions, Im sure.
Good campin !
RE: Towing in the Mountains
Hey EagleScout,
We will need more info on your truck, 4.6 or 5.4, what gearing do you have, 3.55 or 3:92 ?
As far as the cruise control, best to leave it off when towing.
The tow haul mode, always use this while towing.
Hope this answers some of your questions
RE: Opinion of camper
Hey Chevyman2006,
Make sure you check the belly fabric for any cuts or patches, make sure the insulation is still fluffy, not solid.
If theres an area on the inside where you can see beneath the floor, check for mildew or discolored insulation, and also soft spots in the floor when you walk on it, or discolored linoleum.
The reason I say all these things is because we got rid of a similar camper, that we bought brand new, 2003 Shasta Oasis Flight, same manufacturer as the SOA at the time, same camper to a T, they sat side by side on the lot, the only difference was colors.
We had a major leaks from day 1 at the front where the diamond plate met the siding, though it wasnt caught right away. Everytime we towed in the rain water would get in and soak the under belly, you could see the belly fabric sagging with water.
The dealer finally patched things up, but knowing what I know about wet wood and insulation, it was time to trade in.
The dealer opened up the front of the trailer and showed me the issue first hand.
Hope this helps you out.
RE: close 'em or leave 'em open?
I leave mine closed until the gray tank is almost full, then open the black until empty and wash it down with the gray.
