RE: Bed Rails For Bunk House Options

I took one of these:
http://images.lowes.com/product/converted/071691/071691395898.jpg height=640
And screwed it into the base of the bed with some clips. It covers about half the length of the bed.

RE: Would you or would'nt you

The 3:55 axle ratio is going to be your worst enemy. Personally, I wouldn't.
He'll be completely fine. Do you recommend he upgrades to a 3500?

RE: KOA's around the Black Hills

Looks like we're booked at the Mount Rushmore KOA in Hill City for 10 days this summer. I realize some people don't like the KOA/RV Park thing. I like the more remote places as well but we were looking for basically a base camp to explore the area and also have things for our 5 year old daughter to do while we're in camp and this place sounds about right.
Thanks to everyone.

KOA's around the Black Hills

Anyone know anything about these places? The Mount Rushmore KOA in Hill City seems to get the best reviews online but It would be nice to hear from someone on here as well.
Thanks.

RE: RV fire

As for the fridge, if my next rig has a three way fridge, it stays on propane unless I'm going through tunnels... then it goes onto 12VDC, and hard gel packs ensure the temperature stays within a safe range.
Of course you do...when approaching a tunnel at highway speeds you secure the steering wheel with Eternal Bond, quickly run to the back, switch over the fridge to 12v, drive thru the tunnel, then repeat procedure..only back to propane.

RE: What size range do you all recommend?

I personally do not get the idea of a slide out. Yes it gives you more room but why are you in the trailer to care?
I have been camping with people with big trailers with slides and tons of room but nobody is ever in there.
When I make the move to a TT I will not be looking at slides. I know there isn't too many issues with them but there are issues and with the extra weight and cost I think a person really needs to sit down and think how often are we going to be sitting in here staring at each other wishing for more space.
I think when people are shopping they see the extra space and go wow, this is awesome and then they get hooked. Kids don't care about the extra space.
If it is raining go do something, the mall ,a movie, a museum etc. and any CG I have been to they have a big rec center to do tons of stuff anyway.
JMHO but slides are more hype than value.
You say to go to the mall, movie etc., if it is raining, and any camp ground you have been to will have a big rec center to do tons of stuff in.
I would guess from your comments that you have not been very far off a major highway in your camper. Try going to a mall, or finding the rec hall in a campground that until recently only had a pump for water (just got solar powered running water a very few years ago),doesn't have any hookups at all, and is located an hour or more one way from the nearest town with more than about 4-500 inhabitants (1 or 2 small stores,no mall no movies,no structured activities) .Driving for miles on muddy roads, just to go to a mall (I can go to a mall at home) doesn't have too much appeal, so staying in my nice roomy fifth wheel, with it's slide out, on a rainy day works great for me and my wife (and the dog). We did have a popup at one time, as well as a no slide TT...................never again.
unlikely you are getting your big 5th wheel with all its slide into that remote CG anyway.
and besides most trailers have a 19 foot x 8 foot open area underneath that thing on the door side. That's where I spend some time when weather is bad
and once again I am not against slides. I think they are great but the OP is new and is unsure what to buy and said they need to be in a certain size but I just want them to think about whether a slide is a necessity or a want.
You are one arrogant and pompous dude. Why continue suggesting options in the TT subforum when you don't have one? It would be like me recommending a Class A to someone based on nothing at all.

Why are you in the Travel Trailer sub-forum throwing out opinions that aren't even valid to the OP? Everyone camps how they want to camp. No one really cares that you think that the only time spent in the trailer should be to sleep. People like having some comforts of home along with them and extra space in the trailer when the weather is crappy and you're stuck inside.
You seem to be super sensitive about your pop-up and you overreact in a lot of your posts.
You really need to relax.
To the OP, get a bunkhouse model with a slide. You'll regret it if you don't the first time you're stuck inside on a crappy day.

RE: winter battery storage

I would do the battery tender thing.
...or, you could removed it and take it inside where it won't freeze.
That's what I do. I put the trickle charger on it once a month while it's sitting in my warm workshop over the winter.

I don't think that the TV and TT are a good match at all in this situation but it seems like the OP's mind is made up. Just hope he drives as safe as possible wherever he decides to go.

RE: "Pet Peeve"

FYI:
"Unattended" means "not attended", or "alone", or "by itself" or "doing who-knows-what-while-the-neighbors-listen".
Maybe it would be clearer for folks if campgrounds would put it this way:
ATTENTION!!!
IF YOU BRING AN ANIMAL OF ANY KIND ONTO THESE PREMISES YOU HAD BY JIMINY BETTER KEEP IT WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES!!!
AND THAT INCLUDES IF YOU GO TO THE GROCERY STORE OR THE LOCAL TOURIST ATTRACTIONS OR THE BAR OR WHATEVER!!!
THIS MEANS YOU!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Think that'd work? :@
I've left my dog in the trailer when our family has ran down to the store for ice cream or something like that. He'd probably bark if someone knocked on my trailer door but I think the chances of an Avon Lady or a couple of Mormons (no offense to any Mormons) doing the rounds at the campground are pretty small. If we're gone for more than an hour we would take him with us.
I consider my camper my home away from home and I leave my dog in my house by himself, believe it or not.

RE: Anybody have a mileage meter on trailer tires?

My 2011 F150's built in brake controller is integrated into the 4" LCD screen in the IC and I can name my trailer and track the mileage on it when it's hooked up.

RE: DIY Outdoor Entertainment Center ???

wow..once again you prove that you think people in Pop ups are in a different class.
I sleep when I am in my trailer so the fact it is "soft sided" unlike your big rig doesn't bother me.
when I am outside trying to enjoy a conversation with my family I don't want to hear music and Tv's
Camping and sleeping in a hard-sided travel trailer is different than camping in a tent trailer especially when it come to outside noise.
I suggest anger management courses.

RE: DIY Outdoor Entertainment Center ???

Once again I find myself reading a thread where the intolerance of others really shines through. Why some of you people choose a lifestyle where you're forced to be around strangers is beyond me.:h
And, once again, im left asking myself this question: Why do these people even camp in a campground when the slightest little noise after quiet time annoys them to the point where they're ready to call the cops!!
Sound like a lot could be solved by just staying at home.
MHO of course :R
Someone earlier mentioned listening to the loons... I have to agree and add that they are all here.
If they need that much silence they need to be out in the middle of nowhere by themselves. I understand quiet hours but as much as they may be "annoyed" by the neighbors.. Their whining annoys me.
I don't camp to go see you, I camp because as a family it is a great time to get together and do outdoor things, and I have every right to go to any CG I want and I do not want you to come say hello because I won't come do it to you, and it isn't because I am not nice I just don't need anymore friends. So with that I don't want to hear your conversations or your music or laughter.
we generally are all in bed by 9:30-10:00 because our days are always full of activities so peace and quiet are important.
It is just respect...I do it, my wife does it and so do my kids, why can't you?
and a very busy CG in NH I stayed at this summer has a policy of no radios anytime.
You sure seem like an angry and bitter person. At least your online persona comes out that way.
While I would be annoyed by someone playing music loud late at night I also realize that campgrounds are crowded with all sorts of different people and they won't all bow down to my wishes.
This is also the Travel Trailer sub-forum and someone watching TV in a site 30 yards away is a lot different than it is to someone in a tent trailer so maybe your point of view might get more sympathy in the appropriate forum.

RE: Dump Station Woes

30 minutes and you thought that was rude? Then don't ever get behind us :)
To me rude is not waiting your turn no matter what is happening in front of you. Not like he was chatting, having a party or washing the rv tires. He was dumping and he needed a bit more time than the usual. Cut the guy a break!!
We take whatever time we need to finish our business. Sometimes it is faster, sometimes it is longer. Sucks to be in line but everyone has to do it at some point, everyone has to deal with it.
I won't rush because there is a line.
Wow. How inconsiderate and selfish. Seriously.
I see it as reverse. that you can't wait your turn. talk about selfish. wanting others to alter for you.
wait your turn. suck it up!
dump lines are a waiting exeperience. Learn to live with that. will help you sleep better than always worrying about what others are doing and trying to alter their routines to suit your personal needs.
talk about selfish.
it usually doesn't take near 30 minutes for me, but if it did stretch to that length for some reason during that dump, then so be it. get comfy, because you will have a wait!
sure 30 mins is unusual. most lines wouldn't experience campers using that amt of time to dump. but if it happened then there was a reason. give that man some slack. no one wants to wait. but if you have to wait then be a bit gracious about it instead of crying.
Who's crying??
Thanks for proving me correct.
30 minutes to use a dump station is completely ridiculous, plain and simple.
