RE: Twin Falls Idaho area recommendations

Stayed at Anderson's Camp and enjoyed it. Thanks for the recommendations. Facilities are dated but overall everything was clean and functional. Staff was friendly. Didn't swim or mini-golf but the water felt warm and the kiddos loved playing zombies in the newer of two playgrounds with some other kids. Actually they enjoyed both playgrounds. There was also plenty of room to spread out. We were in spaces numbered in the 50s along a large grassy area. Lots of shade too. We will be back! Access to Twin Falls, Jerome and Shoshone Falls is simple so this was a winner.

RE: Ideas for a adding main battery shutoff

Wow! Great replies, thanks everyone. My son is very inquisitive which I encourage but sometimes he is a little overly independent. I had to put a padlock on my well pump so he wouldn't burn it out by turning it on without opening any spigots.
I'll put one of these solutions to use soon I'm sure.

Ideas for a adding main battery shutoff

I'm looking for ideas on how to add a master battery shutoff / disconnect. I'm looking for something childproof, weatherproof, etc. my fuse panel doesn't seem to have any main fuses and I get aggravated pulling all of them or opening up the battery box every time I want to disconnect for more than three weeks of storage.
This is for the camper in my sig with dual 12V batteries. Thanks!

RE: Twin Falls Idaho area recommendations

Thanks everyone. I think I'll check out Rock Creek and Hagerman which yes I know, is a ways from both towns, maybe further than Nat Soo Pah. Well we haven't decided yet but thanks for all the comments.

Twin Falls Idaho area recommendations

I'm considering the Twin Falls / Jerome Idaho area over Memorial weekend and looking for recommendations for somewhere with full hookups or at least water and electric and relatively close to either town. I've stayed at Nat Soo Pah before but it's on the opposite side of Twin from Jerome so it's a bit out of the way as we'll be visiting both towns and have visitors from both towns. I know there's various hot springs around but I don't know them well or which ones offer camping.
Thanks!

RE: 12V TV DVD Blu Ray combo suggestions

Just to give more info, we're not looking for Blu ray for picture quality but to be able to play movies that we have from the house in Blu ray only format. We don't buy the DVD / blu ray combo packs anymore because in the house all the players are Blu ray so now we have several movies on blu ray only.
Also trying to avoid converting DC to AC back to DC. I'd rather stay DC only and skip the Blu ray. Too bad there's not much choice out there.

That Skyworth looks pretty good. I did some of my own research and was a little leery. They all seemed to be brands I have never heard of. That is why I came here, looking for recommendations, thanks!

12V TV DVD Blu Ray combo suggestions

Does anybody have any recommendations for a flat panel DVD Blu Ray combo TV in a smaller size around 20 inch? Most of our camping is weekend jaunts boon docking. We don't generally watch TV but occasionally pack a laptop, iPad or some sort of portable device to let the kids watch maybe one show per trip. We also sometimes pack our small TV from the bedroom of our house if we are going somewhere with hookups. It would simplify things if we just mount a flat panel TV in the camper. Of course some discs are DVD, some are Blu Ray and it would be nice to be able to run on battery or shore power. LED backlight will save power too.
Aside from lifestyle critiques, any recommendations?

RE: 4wd usefulness

...different sizes no less too!
Marty
LOL, I also peruse the Volvo forums. Statements like that give the AWD Volvo nuts heart attacks. The first advice when shopping for used AWD equipped Volvos, make sure all tires are the same size and similar wear or else expect expensive repairs in the very near future.
My other "truck" is a '99 Volvo V70XC (Cross Country AWD wagon) and I love it four seasons of the year. If you need a vehicle that can handle winter almost like a truck and minus towing, the Swedes know what they are doing. With winter rubber, I think it stays planted better than the Suburban with all seasons does.

RE: 2013 Suburban 2500 Hitch limitation

As I'm considering a newer 2500 Suburban or Yukon XL, I'm interested in this question also. On my '06 'burb I upgraded the hitch to a higher capacity Curt, even though I do not exceed the original weight rating of the OEM hitch, and I'm glad I did. It feels like a much more solid connection. Of course I cannot quantify this at all. If nothing else, I feel like the Curt is less likely to self destruct on me.
I would not recommend going over the rating of your factory hitch.
You mentioned better brakes...
I'm not sure about 2500s but on the 1500s, the front brakes are better on the '07 and newer but the rear brakes are better on the GMT 800s.
1500 GMT 900 front rotors are larger diameter than 1500 GMT 800.
1500 GMT 800 rear calipers are dual piston while the 1500 GMT 900 rears have puny Trailblazer single piston calipers.
The front brake package from the 1500 GMT 900 is a bolt on to the 1500 GMT 800 and I'm going to try it so I'll have the best of both.
Yes, I know the brakes may not apply to a 2500, sorry for any diversions.

RE: Suburban TV Question

I have a 1500 Suburban (the one in my sig below) and wish to upgrade to a Yukon XL 2500 SLT-2 ASAP! Wait for a good 2500. If you go with a GMT800 (pre '07) you can upgrade the hitch too.

RE: 4wd usefulness

Two of the roads that I needed to take hadn't been plowed yet.
Funny, except for highways and emergency routes, they don't even really bother with plowing in Montana. Some busy intersections get that awful sodium whatever chemical goo that doesn't come off of the vehicles until summer. Some intersections get sand but plowing, whatever! So yes, 4X4s are the norm around here. Last winter we had unplowed snow in the streets for months, no biggie, we still get around, go to work and school, etc. In temps well below zero, feet of snow, were still expected to show up.
I wish for some of that pictured snow too. Right now it is more like Montizona here.
I agree with those who say a well equipped 4X2 can be great but most around here don't bother. I do compete with my brother in law when we go off road to see who can stay in two wheel drive (no lockers) the longest but we also have each other to pull the other out if it comes to that. We do so well in two wheel drive, by the time we get stuck, engaging the other wheels usually doesn't help. That's all just for fun though. On the roads, Auto mode is usually at the ready. My other car is also AWD with winter only tires and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

RE: Good Bye Ecoboost, Time for a Super Duty

"... based on advice on this portal's members."
Blaming anything on free advice from an anonymous source on the Internet is as bad or worse than driving into the ocean because the GPS said turn left.
And when I say anonymous, yes I know some names here, and posts show a username and the website has a name but really, I don't know most posters any differently than I know the poster on some other forum who tells every n00b to add Corn Flakes to their gas tank.

RE: 4X4 Vans

I don't know much about it other than what you see. I wanted to check it out a little more closely however a guy, possibly the owner, I think was doing dishes and watching me try to snap pics. I didn't have time (on my way to work) and I don't think it would have went over to well to just go up to the door and start asking questions. I'm friendly but for several reasons the situation just wasn't right.

RE: Add Trans Temp or swap IPC '06 Suburban 1500

If you had mileage and hours programmed, presumably the VIN and all other appropriate programming was done. That was the case with mine, all programming done ahead of time so mileage matched and setup properly for my vehicle. In fact if you notice in the pics, the mileage is the same. These pics were to prove I still have accurate mileage.

RE: Add Trans Temp or swap IPC '06 Suburban 1500

Around town here in Montana in the winter, the needle rarely moves up from the bottom. It does enough that I know it is working but not much at all really. If I get it fully warm, lots of city driving, it may get up to around 140. That's all winter time.
In the summer, not towing, it commonly gets up to near the middle of the gauge. I'm not going to give numbers right now, just approximations. I can tell, if I'm cruising, it is a bit lower, shifting a lot it goes up a bit. It does take a while to come up to this point. If I just run to the store and back it doesn't really get up there.
Towing on the highway not shifting a lot, usually fluctuates just under 200. I think I only saw 210 or over once, very hot out, shifting a lot, came down to under 200 once I settled down my driving a bit.
I do not have an aux trans cooler, just the OEM towing package cooler.
I assume you meant to say it heats up idling and cools down when you get moving. I've never noticed if or how idling affects trans temp. Maybe if idling in gear it would heat up but I don't ever do that long enough to notice.
Except for any differences with a big trans cooler, it sounds about normal to me.

RE: 4X4 Vans

I love the A-Team van. That thing is sweet!

As far as cargo, I travel with my wife, three kids and a dog and never have cargo issues, whether a road trip without the camper or with the camper.
I suppose I should do without some of the interior bling but it is easy to get used to, then hard to take away.

RE: Add Trans Temp or swap IPC '06 Suburban 1500

Everything is better with pics. Before and after. I've been running this for a while, about 10K miles now and I love my trans temp gauge and I love the Escalade version!
Before
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8022/7495181672_7174f3e9c9_n.jpg
After
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8012/7495182700_6012583323_n.jpg
I did it to add transmission temp (lower left corner) that comes in Escalades and 3/4 ton and higher trucks to my 1/2 ton Suburban. I love the chrome trim! The trucks come with my same original clulster but with trans temp. The Escalades have the trans temp and trim rings and different faces which is what I installed.
