RE: First outing, new mh, a few issues

The propane detector can go off when the old batteries off-gas.

RE: chesapeake bay bridge tunnel

At the entrance - right after the toll booths - there is a place to check your height. Have seen a few trucks checking. We have been over (and under) the bridge tunnel many times - last year we were charged $28. I see this year we will be charged $29. ($17 plus $12) We have seen 5th wheels on that stretch of road. Once we watched our motorhome on the back of a tow truck use the bridge tunnel, While it swayed a bit, it had lots of room.

RE: fav eateries Mackinaw City

I second the burgers at Keyhole Bar. Service can be spotty - depends on how busy the town is but that is true all over town we found. Pizza Palace over Mama Mia.

RE: Lums Pond State Park, DE

I see no problems for a 40 footer - keep to the front of the campground. If the site says 40 feet you are good. Some sites don't have a paved or gravel place to park - so if it rains... you might be in mud. They only have 6 electric sites and those are hard to get in the summer. We like the park but we are only 32 feet - never have had a problem. The campground is on the other side of the state park so you have to follow the campground signs not the Nature or headquarters.

RE: Need reviews on Hartwick Pines SP Grayling, Mi

We found most of the sites to be sunny. If I remember, the sites around the far edge were wooded more than others. Far edge - the side away from the entrance road.

Rally e-mail + billing for campground book

Got an e-mail about the Rally in Syracuse. No dates on the sheet. Do you expect people to click on the other information just to find out when? On edit - yes the last e-mail had the dates! Thanks Please remember all the W's - who, what, when, where ... I ordered the 'new' campground book. It came in December. No bill. I sent an e-mail with a note that I had a new credit card in January. No response. Finally I get a letter saying that the old credit card number can't be used - OK, I understand that after all it was the end of Feb. So, I call and get it straightened out. Now I get e-mail saying that my order is confirmed then that it was shippped. This is the third time those 2 e-mails have come - once when I placed the order, once when it was shipped and now again. Somebody needs to fix the order system. Not big problems but sometimes someone has to point things out.

RE: I love camping and I love scuba diving.

Alert Diver, the DAN publication, just did an article on Tobermory diving. When we were up along the north shore of the St. Lawrence, east of Montreal, we found many dive local shops. Most had rentals and tourist dives in summer.

RE: IDL NOT needed for Canadians!

When we went into Canada for a few weeks, we got an International Drivers Lic. from AAA and we got a statement from our insurance company about something on the coverage. No big deal.

RE: south of the border,sc

We have stayed there for an overnighter. Always tidy and cheaper than some other places. We walk to the steak house for dinner - no problem. They do have a card gate so that keeps down the traffic in the park. I seem to remember a small place for kids to play

RE: I just don't get it

How do we do it? no house loans, no car loans, no paying on installments, 1 child now 48, no fancy clothes, no fancy jewelery, pay off credit cards each month, no fancy cell phone, limited amount of minutes and bytes, only got full house air conditioning last fall, no fancy RV resorts, got a good deal on a 1999 class A due to no slides, have small house... It is harder now with the economy but I had to work 3 jobs at times when I was a single mom. Things are doable but you have to give up some things that everyone else has.

RE: I love camping and I love scuba diving.

New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida.... All have RV camping and diving. Don't forget the old oil rigs off Texas and all. California has some good diving as does Washington Just a tip of the diving places... from a New Jersey diver since the 70's but now out of the water.

RE: How to fix a hole in vent cover

our experience is when you go to patch the hole, the rest of the vent cracks from the pressure you put on it to seal the patch. They just get very brittle from the sun.

RE: Auto Park

Yes, Thank you Roger! We used your hints a few times on ours and other MH parked next to us. We are going over 94,000 miles - 1 failure of gray switch, 1 failure of green switch. Did a replacement a while ago - just because... Easy to disconnect and use chocks until repaired.

RE: I Need Two Really Nice Air Vent Covers

I think the MaxxAir lasts longer - the plastic doesn't get as brittle as fast it seems. Have 2 on our A

RE: Shower or Tub?

One of the things I wanted in our motorhome was a tub. A mistake! I can't get out of it! We use the shower. Live and learn. Don't have a dog or kids so what others have said might apply.

RE: Why do RV shows (and others) charge admission?

Having be in the management end of a 'show', we had the exhibit space pay for itself. The admission fee paid for the speakers - and we had lots of them. The exibitors had the chance to sell stuff and most did. The speakers came from all over and demand payment and hotel rooms and travel expenses. That really added up!

RE: The "New" Combo Directory of Trailer Life/Woodalls

I would go for the 2 books with a divider at the Mississippi River. The book is just too heavy to pass from DH to me and back when we are looking for a campground. But I do like the layout of the information. I do use RV Park Reviews since they seem to be mostly to be geared to what I look for in a park. (throw out the high and low reviews and go by the middle). Will say that our Trailer Life directory took a beating each year and our Woodalls got replaced only every other year.

RE: I never thought CW would let me down this bad.

This thread just shows that management doesn't have a handle on the problems with the dealerships. I know 2 people that have on going problems with Camping World. Both are ready to get rid of their units since they haven't been able to use them for months. Will let them post - when they are ready. We would like to get a windshield replaced but to be held hostage by Camping World for weeks isn't my idea of good service (past experience with another basic problem). On the other hand, we had good service in Charleston, SC. True, it took a repeat visit but service was prompt and things explained. It just shows that a store can please customers when they want. And they called back!

Does anyone know if the Dirty Blind Man is still in business? www.dirtyblindman.com I tried to order in December but haven't heard anything - it went into PayPal.

RE: NEED help from oldusedbear???

A repair shop that does the old box trucks will know how to fix your problem - talk to the oldest repair guy there. Just for your info, there are 2 switches - a green one and a gray one. But your main problem now is you cut the cable. You have to replace that and then replace the switch that is bad.
