RE: Preventive maintenance! ! 10 year old MH

Fuel filter or keep a spare. Check all the orfices for bugs and clean em out (fridge/water heater/furnace) pour a bit of water in the drains to fill the p traps, check the sewer hose (seems to be a lot of that lately) /connections, etc. I bleached our holding tanks (force a cup or 2 in the end of your hose and fill the tank and drain) pour a small amount of bleach/water in the black and gray. Check the suspension sprung and unsprung rear axle dope, u joint check to name a few off the top of my head

RE: Electric vrs Gas Cooktops

Proper cooks use gas ;) Personally I wouldn't have electric as a culinary person, but if you only use it for simple meals, theirs nothing wrong with it. I cook with gas and prefer propane as its a hotter heat over natural gas. and in the next coach (I cant believe I'm saying this, but it will happen) I want to ditch the micro/hood combo for a vented model (high heat) with a small commercial style dual fuel range/oven (electric convection oven is more accurate). AND a gas dryer (vented of course)

RE: Preventive maintenance! ! 10 year old MH

Like Brett said, depends on the chassis, an older ford v10 they make a helicoil kit for the plugs that pop out of the head. If I had that motor, Id carry a couple kits for the what if's. a DP, Id carry a spare fuel filter as sometimes down the road you have no idea what fuel your putting in

RE: Newbie towing question

Its not that bad to retrofit an electric brake system to the dolly (depending on manufacturer). to be 100% legal you'll need a battery box and wiring/disconnect Breakaway kit Brake assembly Drums Just examples you need to find from the manufacturer the spindle type, they may even make a kit Of course youll need a controller

RE: Doomsday....... for a little while anyway

sorry about your bad luck you might be able to deal with the bank but I don't think you really meant to say you had to go to the wages of India of $145.00 month to $350.00 dollars US a month(for a white collar worker ) I am retired now but we raised a family and had a good living on my income in Grocery never made over $14.00 a hour(union scale) bought and paid for 2 houses , cars , on 3rd motor home( no it's not a DP but it is paid off)ps we still owe on the car Good Luck Bob & Judy Yup, its the same charge code for their employees in india, degreed engineers and designers make from 15-22/hr. I'm in at 20/hr now and I have to pay 100% of my bennies which is about 150 bucks a week for crappy insurance pretax ($40 office 80/20 in network 60/40 out 2500 deductable for the family) not to mention michigan isnt exactly a cheap place to live. Whats funny is they train these guys and they go to work for the competition for more cash

RE: Doomsday....... for a little while anyway

Thanks everyone so much, and I really appreciate the advise and care. The big plan so far is to call the lenders. The only things we really owe on are the wifes van (wont break her heart to sell it and well make a few bucks on it hopefully), the RV which we bought on 100% credit. Ill be calling the lender to see if they want to short sell it. Our house is in the midst of a big remodel so we have a bit of credit card dept. Ill be talking to the lender about that to possibly make a value adjustment (lord knows that housing is in shambles right now). Filing for us right now under my name is the only way to keep current on the house and home bills which I am going to talk to a lawyer this coming week that has experience with negotiating with lenders and bankruptcy. I need to get an even keel right now and then from there look at investments and other opportunities. Ill be honest, being a design engineer really isn't what it used to be. I don't go to work anymore with excitement and new ideas are written off for cheaper alternatives and "it works now" attitudes. I'm a mechanical person by nature and I've already got a spare garage to work out of (just not fully ready yet (heat and elec.) and as of yesterday 2 customers for auto repair so things may happen sooner then I wanted, but I always burned the candle at both ends so I guess its par for the course. My friend owns a repair shop with all the latest diagnostic equipment that he said I can use at any time (more of "so, your going to be borrowing tools a lot"). He turns away a lot of big jobs that take up his bays for too long that I can do with the space I have. I have a meeting with my bosses boss Tuesday to review some things so well see how that goes. I can wrench on normal cars for know, but love custom stuff. we'll see where this takes me. again, thanks for the heart felts, it means a lot Pat

Doomsday....... for a little while anyway

Somebody will undoubtedly get a good deal on a 2000 Endeavor (amongst other things) I got a call and after the wage cut, they called again to let me know they were paying me the same rate as India and I have to work nights, so byby MOHO. The bank will probably end up taking it and someone will get some nice tires, new heater core, and most the bugs worked out (cept a leaky jack) with the unit. I have my family and a roof over my head, RVing is a 2nd that I will miss greatly along with boating (unless we hit the mega lotto ;) )or I find a new gig quick that actually pays(defiantly not as a engineer or white collar (not payed enough in these times) Ive been starting the process of liquidating everything we don't need (didn't realize how much junk we have) Ill be trying to not work for "the man" as ive done before. It was short lived but we will be there again (maybe find a cheapie) because the kids loved it so much Anywho, Ill try to stay active on the boards when I can as I enjoy helping and learning Take care and god bless Pat

RE: Walk in closet, now thats class (Wanderlodge)

Honestly, I dont think Id want the walk in, better just a rear bathroom. I just love the look and quality of these. I actually love the design of the 2000 model year and even if I hit the lotto, Id buy that over a new one or even a smaller bus with the ability to tow a newer searay dancer with the allmost 9 foot beam and stay "close" to the legal lengthsearay

RE: New Foretravel, laminate sidewalls?

They are aluminum studs, but the exterior is gelcote instead of higher end aluminum or stainless steel. I agree, If im forking out that much for a bus, its going to be stainless or 100% aluminum skin like a newel, prevost or bluebird.

RE: Dog tracking - discussion and some simple solutions

We had a jig for race cars that would bolt to the front spindle right on the surface the wheel would sit, set the toe to zero or disconnect the tierod, had a pin that would fit the center of the rear axle dimple. It was heavy tubing, but Im sure you could fab up an adjustable one with a used brake rotor and some light channel

RE: HELP!! 95 Safari Sahara DP Radiator???

Most Dry Powder Chemical fire extinguisher manuals clearly state, "After the fire is out, clean up Dry Powder Chemicals immediately to avoid corrosion". Sounds like its too late as ammonium phosphate is corrosive to aluminum # Type BC fire extinguishers contain sodium or potassium bicarbonate. # Type ABC fire extinguishers contain ammonium phosphate. DO NOT USE AMMONIA FOR CLEANUP!!!!
