RE: How much weight are you pulling with your Gas TV?

I used to haul about 8500 pounds with a Ford V10 and get 7-8mpg , but not any more. After reading these forums I am afraid to haul even a sheet of plywood with a gasser. Guess I better just stick to hauling groceries from now on.

RE: Primetime Lacrosse

This is my 3rd year of ownership of mine. Very few problems since new, but I will say I do not like the electric stabilizer jacks on it. My rear one was repaired under warranty and it is out again. I just use the manual crank handle and all is fine to me. If I had to buy new again, Prime Time would earn my business again.

RE: What Else in and Around Amarillo?

There used to be a private theme park there as well. Not sure what kind of seasonal hours they hold. I think Boys Ranch may have a museum as well.

RE: Heading to Houston and Galveston, favorite RV parks?

I stayed at Marina Del Ray Rv Park in Kemah a couple of years ago and it was pretty nice. That trip I also stayed at Jamaica Beach RV Park in Galveston and it was decent too, but overall Marina Del Ray was a bit nicer.

RE: New vehicle report- 2012 Ford F450 Gasser

I'm disappointed that it took until page two for a drive by jab at a big truck with a gas engine. Holiday spirit must be alive and well on these forums. :D

RE: New vehicle report- 2012 Ford F450 Gasser

The only trucks in the fleet with V10's are the new bucket trucks. I think in my department we have about 8 bucket trucks, 7 brand new ones and one old 1991 Ford F350 with no AC and a 3 spd. When your truck breaks down you basically drive the truck of who ever is off that day. It is not uncommon for yours to be in for repairs for a weeks time and you end up driving 5 different trucks that week. Most of the other guys are driving 95-97 Chevy 3500 SRW cable trucks. Those are also in the process of being replaced. Last year we got 1 Ford F350 but the guy was complaining the 5.4 was under powered. Since then all the new cable trucks have been CHevy 2500HD or 3500HD. Not sure why some are 3500 and some 2500. Also not sure where our trucks go after we wear them out. I know they are sent to auction, but when and where they are sold is anyone's guess.

RE: New vehicle report- 2012 Ford F450 Gasser

I'm amazed the phone company is still running those 90's chevy's. That F450 looks like a beast! :B We still have plenty of those mid to late 90's Chevys. Mine was about the only truck in my town under 200K. It may have been a heap, but it was still better than the '84 Ford F350 I had before. At least the Chevy had a radio AND AC. The company has never been much on a decent fleet. At least the new truck is a 10 year lease so maybe one more new truck for me before I fly the coop.

RE: New vehicle report- 2012 Ford F450 Gasser

Chevy had 145K when it was retired, but only about 12K on a new 454 installed in April 2010. Chevy was also on it's 3rd transmission, 4th fuel pump, and local fleet record of being in the shop for repairs 42 times over the final 5 years of it's life. Neither truck really sees much idling as that is a big no-no while being employed where I work. The GPS units of the trucks flag excessive idling and we must be under 10% each day. The Chevy did have an inverter system to operate the aerial lift and during prolonged times in the bucket the engine had to be run for short periods of time to keep the battery bank charged. The new truck has an Onan genset which has so far proven to be much more desirable.

New vehicle report- 2012 Ford F450 Gasser

I'm not much of a truck tech geek, but I thought I would chime in to give an idiot's review of a 2012 V10 powered F450. This is a truck that my employer provides me to drive and it just replaced a 1997 Chevrolet 3500HD. Of course one vehicle is 15 years newer, but the ride quality is great in the Ford. For being a big truck the F450 rides smooth, has plenty of power, and gets way better fuel economy than my old Chevy 454. The new truck was weighed before I got it and it rolled off the delivery truck at 11,600 pounds. I have loaded all my material and tools into it to add at least 2,000 more pounds. With the 1997 Chevrolet I got a hand calculated average over a 15 year period of about 4 mpg. In the other hand I have put on 1500 miles in the F450 and have been averaging 7 mpg. Not the greatest, but that is a heavy truck with mostly in town stop and go driving. The only highway miles it sees is maybe 7-8 mile stretches at a time. I think you can only get the V10 in a 450 or 550 chassis cab, but so far I am impressed with this motor. While it weighs more this engine feels like it has more pep in the F450 than my 2000 Ford Excursion. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v117/phoneman/526920_10151328817581093_375666696_n_zpsee181dbb.jpg

RE: Question For Outdoor Kitchen Owners...

I opted not to get one because I didn't want to lose a bed. That and being limited to 30amp power I wondered if the extra fridge would draw too much power. All the junk my family likes to run at once, I couldn't imagine throwing another appliance in the mix. They sure look nice though.

RE: V10 vs. Diesel Excursion

Problem is most 7.3 motors at this point are in trucks creeping up in the years. Watch out for tranny issues.

RE: Electric Dometic Awning Failure

Mine did the same thing, but it was not the motor or switch. It was the spring tension in the roller tube was out of whack. The motor was not strong enough to roll it back up until the spring was adjusted.

RE: texas state inspection requirements for TT

Just had mine done last week. I took it to the closest dealer and the trailer had to be hooked up to my tow vehicle and I had to present proof of insurance on the tow vehicle. They basically checked all lights, brake operation, hitch operation, safety chains, and tires. Cost 14 bucks I believe.

RE: Dometic power awning issue

I took it back to the dealer and they are ordering a new motor and new switch. They are telling me they will cover the motor replacement, but I have to incur the cost of the switch.

RE: Dometic power awning issue

No one have a similar experience? I guess to prod some responses I will tell you I am towing a 9K pound trailer with a 1/2 ton and I drain my gray water at my campsite.
