RE: generator exhaust extending

Any body ever use camco generator exhaust extend pipe does it work is it safe.I think you mean a Gen-turi Generator Exhaust System - Camco RV 44461. We call them up-pipes in the Northeast.
I have been using one for many, many years. In the Northeast they are required at most club dry camping rallies. Scusset Beach State Reservation requires one to be used regardless of who's rally it is, if it is being held in the safari field.
Now with that being said, I attended a FMCA rally a couple years ago in Perry, GA and discovered they were not mandatory. The rationale was that generator manufactures would not warranty their generators if a up-pipe was used. I spoke with one of the major generator representives who said that was the case. They said that the gen-tori had no back pressure, but could not tell people to use one type over another. Some people use homemade up-pipes using gutter downspouts or pvc as up-pipes with lots of back-pressure.
I would rather use one than have someone hurt due to carbon monoxide poisoning. I have used one since 2002 on two motorhomes with no problems. The Gen-turi has no backpressure.

RE: Listing of AMP usage?

There are quite a few. Here is one.
Appliance Amperage
Wattage % Volts = Amps
Amps X Volts = Wattage
One other thing to keep in mind is many RV appliances require more amps to start the appliance than they do to run the appliance. A roof air conditioner can draw 16 amps to start, but may only use 13 amps once it is running.

RE: Looking for best options for towbar for a new Jeep

For others using this post as a reference.
I have the Adventa XL BX7445. This bar is very heavy and difficult to put on the hitch. This is the new style with the ball. The ball is very rusty, and the bars are difficult to move. The Blue Ox Tech that installed it with the correct drop down receiver said to never put anything on the ball except a little dish detergent and water to keep it clean. I do not recommend this tow bar.
This is a different product than the Adventa II the others have recommended and stated they have had little problem with.
Good luck with the Acclaim.

RE: Looking for best options for towbar for a new Jeep

This is the one I suggest. Blue Ox Aladin. I had the old 5000 lb version but upgraded to their new 10,000 lb ball style bar. It is heavy, still very stiff after a couple years of use and is not holding up well to the weather.
The Aladin is rated for 7,500 pounds and is made mostly of aluminum. At the time, the only Aladin available was the old 5,000 lb version. The 7,500 lb had been released, but not readily available at the FMCA Rally I was attending. I regret not waiting. Our 2012 Grand Cherokee Overland is to close to the 5k mark to chance using a 5k bar.
Good luck with your new Jeep.

EDIT
Make sure you calculate in the shipping when pricing. Sometimes the cheaper price is more expensive when you calculate in the shipping.
A few places to compare prices. (I did not check all prices. Check ppl has they have a $150 off the baseplate and bar promotion if purchased over the telephone. The shipping was about $10)

RE: Samsung Galaxy S3 Verizon hotspot known problem

UPDATE,
The Razr arrived. I was unable to open the slot for the Sims card. I called Verizon and asked for the sims removal tool for the Razr that Verizon's website says that I need to open the door on the Sims slot. They suggested that I try a safety pin, no success.
It gets better. While on the telephone with Verizon, I try taking the rubber protective cover off of the S3 and drop it, breaking the glass screen. The Verizon persons says to send the S3 back under my protection plan and send the Razr back to them. Try the new S3 I receive. Then, if I still have a problem, call them back.
I will let you know how the new S3 works.

RE: Samsung Galaxy S3 Verizon hotspot known problem

I have to reset my phone from time to time... On many web pages you can (once the page times out on your computer) Reset the phone, re-connect to it, and then re-load the page.
However your issues sound worse then mine.Thank you. Have reset the connection many, many times. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
I love the new multiview, but since we spend a lot of time on the road, the hotspot is more important to me. I am currently using Comcast at home.
Since setting up a new phone is time consuming, I am going to wait a couple days before switching to the new phone.

RE: Samsung Galaxy S3 Verizon hotspot known problem

I assume tethering includes using the hotspot. I have unlimited data on the phone and unlimited data on the hotspot. We used between 8 and 9 gigs on the hotspot last February with no additional fee. In our case, the hotspot may be a separate plan, but still grandfathered as unlimited.
I confirm this with Verizon every time I talk to them, including the conversation about the new phone.
Paul
To my knowledge, Verizon has never offered a Hotspot plan with unlimited data. Are you using something like FoxFi to create the Hotspot? If so, you aren't using Verizon's Hotspot option. I use FoxFi on my phone with an unlimited data plan and do not have a Hotspot plan. The only thing I do is turn the hotspot on when I need it. I do use PDA.net several times during the winter to make reservations on ReserveAmerica due to the hotspot being so unstable.
I read the Verizon Galaxy S3 update link provided above. I only know what she told me. She said I was up to date. I received the new Razr about an hour ago. Hopefully that solves the problem for those using the hotspot with the S3.
My build number ends in MB1 as opposed to MD3 in the article.

The hotspot option has it's own separate data plan which is severely limited. RE: Samsung Galaxy S3 Verizon hotspot known problem

Be careful when dealing with Verizon. They will slip you into a limited data plan without your knowing. I called to activate the hot spot, which is a $30/month add-on for the unlimited data plan. I happened to go on line the next day to check my account and found that they had put me on a 4 gb family data plan. To make it worse, there was a problem with the software version on my Samsung Galaxy that would not let the phone stay in the hot spot mode for more than a minute or so.
I had to call back and get to a supervisor after 45 minutes to get it straightened out. They still charged me $30 for two months for the hot spot I couldn't use. Took two months to get the overcharges recovered.
By the way: The last software update on my Galaxy fixed the software problem.Thanks. Sounds like we had a similar issue with the hotspot. According to my phone and Verizon, I have the latest update. As soon as I told her the build number she said she was going to get me a new phone.

RE: Samsung Galaxy S3 Verizon hotspot known problem

I'd go here and tell your story. See if you can get more insight. I don't suggest VZW would ever try to to pull the wool over your eyes.We struggled with this issue all winter and made many calls to Verizon. I called Verizon the day before and said I was still having a problem and was not told that it was a known issue until I called the next day. How many times do you need to call them before they admit there is an issue with a phone. The reason I got the S3 is we had two HTC Incredibles DROIDING all night. They kept telling me it was normal, then after many calls that it was HTC's fault. I resolved it by asking what my payout was. They let me upgrade to the S3 at several hundred dollars since I purchased the 32 gb version. The Razr HD is 16gb. After more calls and threats to leave, they let my wife upgrade to a Iphone 4.
It took dozens of calls for this issue last June. Droiding post a year ago
Similar Droiding post by someone else about the same time
So YES, they were pulling the wool over my eyes and did a great job of it this time since I had no clue it might be the phone.
I have no idea where you want me to post this issue, but this post was only an FYI for those of you trying to use the S3 as a hotspot and experiencing the same problem. There is nothing I can do about it since it is a done deal, so I am going to move on.
Thank you for the suggestion.

RE: Samsung Galaxy S3 Verizon hotspot known problem

Interesting. Just never experienced anything like that or heard about it from any other source.
I hope your new phone solves the problems. By the way, did you ever try using FoxFi or PDA Net with your S3 as a hot spot? That should have worked without issue.PDA.net is what we use when we need to make a reservation through ReserveAmerica that has to be made at 9:00 am to the second because the desirable sites are gone at one second past 9:00 am i.e. Scusset Beach. We are heavy users. We need the hotspot so we can both be on at the same time.

RE: Samsung Galaxy S3 Verizon hotspot known problem

It must be a local issue as I have used the hotspot feature on my S3 multiple times and have never had any issues. It could also be related to the unlimited plan but I don't see how moving to a different phone would fix that.
We use the Verizon Share Everything plan.I originally thought it was a local issue also. Not much chance of it being a local issue though, as I do a good portion of the summer on Cape Cod, MA and all winter in Naples, FL. I have had problems with it at both locations and many places in between as we tour and travel between locations.
I have been told that they do push you down the priority list by tower on the unlimited plan when you reach two gigabytes, but I hadn't used it in a month, so I had close to no data usage at the time.
My only goal with this post was to make people aware that, according to Verizon, there is a know issue with using the S3 as a hotspot on Verizon's network.

RE: Samsung Galaxy S3 Verizon hotspot known problem

Have you tried PDANet/Foxfi? Many people run this app on the S3 with zero problems.

Thanks. Good to know about the Razr being a upgrade. Being completely caught off guard, I made a little noise about getting a Galaxy S4. I was told that I didn't qualify and that even if they made an exception, I would lose my unlimited data plan. She also said that she had only activated one since Verizon released it a couple days ago, so she did not know if the hotspot issue had been resolved. We used between 8 and 9 gigs of data in February (snowbird), so I quickly backed off.
Hopefully this post will help someone with a S3 or considering a S4. I suspect most don't follow the cellphone forums unless they are looking for a new phone or experiencing a problem with their current cellphone.
Again, thanks for the responses.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Verizon hotspot known problem

This is just a FYI in case someone else is experiencing the same problem.
I received my Galaxy S3 the day Verizon made them available last July. I have had problems with the hotspot from the day I received it from many locations on the east coast. Cape Cod, Massachusetts in the summer and Naples, FL in the winter. I have made many calls to Verizon about being disconnected or no service since July always getting the same answer that there are no problems on the towers near me. Sometimes they have had be check some settings on the phone.
I was in Narragansett, RI this past weekend trying to make several reservations through ReserveAmerica to be disconnected several times. I called ReserveAmerica to be told that my site selection needed to time out before they could make the reservation.
Being very frustrated and having 5 bars, I called Verizon twice over two days on this issue. The second time the tech asked me to read the build number. She said it was a known issue and was going to get me a new phone at no cost. We struggled with this for 4 months in Naples and now all of a sudden it is a "know problem". They didn't know about it in November, January, February, March or part of April while we were using it fulltime? I hate dealing with Verizon.
Was I surprised to find out that I was not getting a Galaxy S3, but a Razr HD. I was told that I would have the same problem if I got another Galaxy S3.
I am only paying $30/month for unlimited data. I need a hotspot, so I will live with the downgrade to the Razr HD.
Just an FYI.

RE: LT hogging my bandwidth

Windows 8 is designed to work "in the Cloud" and therefore is going to pull data on an ongoing basis. Microsoft never figured on things like broadband hotspots that have a maximum data limit or cost you $$$ or drop your connection speed if you pass the max for data. They pushed this out with no true understanding of the market other than to appeal to teens with Iphones to draw them to Win 8 phones (lots of luck, MS). Businesses want nothing to do with Win 8 and most serious pc users are not fooled by MS's hype.
Simple solution - roll back to or install Windows 7 and you can then control what data the laptop accesses. The add ons to over-ride the Win 8 App tile screen may only mask it and the data will still be pulled by the app tiles under the add on.I have been using Windows 8 on my new Asus Ultrabook for a few weeks now and love it. I will admit that I did and still do have to look up how to do some things i.e. change my default search engine to Google. Microsoft buried it down many levels.
You can go to the Desktop and use Explorer 10 that looks and acts like you are using it on Windows 7. Go to Start from the menu on the right, click the desktop icon, open Explorer 10 from the taskbar. You can add you favorite shortcut icons to the desktop and it look and act just like Windows 7.
I do not use the cloud.
Once you get used to it, I think that you will like it too.

RE: LT hogging my bandwidth

I am wondering if you are using the correct units. 0.64 megabytes is nothing. 0.64 x 30 = 19 megabytes. We used between 8 and 9 gigabytes last February in Florida. (We are grandfathered with Verizon for unlimited data.) Most plans give you 2 gigabytes. (mg is milligrams used mostly for medication dosage in the US)
If your leakage is 0.64 megabytes and you are using 3 to 4 Gigabytes a month, I wouldn't give it a second thought.
If the leakage is 0.64 gigabytes, shut your computer off and see if the leakage continues, if it does call Verizon. It may be the Verizon hotspot unit itself.

RE: Campingworld Savannah

I am sure you will hear back from someone at Camping World.
You don't say which Jeep you have. Some Jeeps like the Grand Cherokee Limited and Overland cannot be wired to your current brake lights using diodes. It is recommended that separate light sockets be installed in each taillight. Blue ox has kits that can be installed.
One of these kits is needed for our 2012 Grand Cherokee Overland. (We use magnetic lights for our Jeeps due to our bike rack.)
Year: 2012
Part Number: BX1128
Type: Removable
Manufacturer: JEEP
Wiring Kit Options: BX8869, BX88267, BX88269
I have read on this forum that one manufacturer offers a device that does allow you to connect directly to your lights. Maybe someone here can help with the name of the manufacturer.
I hope this helps.
Paul
EDIT
I think the manufacturer might be Cooltech, but not sure. This looks like a version similar to Blue Ox's separate socket kit. The kit I remember used the original bulbs.

Thank you for the responses. I will check them with a hydrometer.
I agree that it is getting close to the time to replace them. I was hoping to get 5 years out of them when I purchased them.
These are U2300's, not U2200's, but that should not make a difference as to the date code. There are no stickers on the batteries.
Trojan 105's this time.
