RE: Copper Canyon

Take the time to do a trip to the bottom of the Canyon - we went out from Creel and it was a real highlight of our trip. There are several guide companies in Creel that you can book with when you get there. Enjoy the trip - we did.

RE: Toll road emergency contact info. Call 074

John - at the moment your Telus phone won't work in Mexico. They told me that we should be able to get a phone with a SIM card soon. Not sure what they mean by soon. Meanwhile our Telus cell shows "no service". We only use Skype but will probably get a Mexican prepay next year if telus doesn't come up with the right phones.

RE: Rabies shot for Cats/Dogs visiting Mexico

We also thought that the requirement for Mexico is 1 year administered within 6 months of crossing. We have never been asked by any Mexican authorities to show our certificates but have been asked by both the US and Canadian border crossing officials. At one time they would just look at the tags but the last couple of years they actually want to see the paperwork. So far we haven't been asked this trip and even our dog food wasn't questioned as it had been on an earlier trip in the fall.

RE: Toll road "tourist rate"

We just came down the west coast and through Sonora. We only paid one rate for the MH and toad, however, it was at the rate for a 6 plus axle vehicle which worked out to the same as the autobus and automobile combined rate. Not much of a saving (none). We have just got used to the fact that we pay higher rates than a truck towing a TT or 5er.

RE: motorhomes in Mexico???

We have been travelling in Mexico with our MH for most of the last 13 years, both the Baja and mostly the mainland. The one real bad experience we had was a car dolly being wider than our MH and busting tires (on the Baja). Since then we got rid of the dolly and have enjoyed our travels very much. We think the key is to be careful (those topes and vibradados) and expect to enjoy this beautiful country. Get Church's Camping in Mexico and follow the advise in Turtle Toads post. These two spots will give you the needed advise for crossing the border and all things necessary to have a great adventure.

RE: Bell Expressvu

I can echo the sentiments about the 'competence' of Bell. We finally spent the big bucks and had the roof mounted automatic dish from Explorer Satellite a partner of Star Choice (shaw direct). We have been extremely happy with the system.

RE: Using Debit Cards in Mexico

We have a RBC debit card and have never had any problems - unless you count the ATM running out of money. We usually take out the maximum allowed at a time.

RE: Bell Expressvu

Bell will NOT work in Mexico and in various parts of the US. Also as noted they will cut you off if they find out it is out of Canada. If you have problems with Star Choice (Shaw Direct) you can contact them from anywhere by phone or e-mail and they will assist with your problems. We had friends at Rancho B last year that were not able to get a proper signal and he contacted SC, got the answers and was able to enjoy his TV for the rest of the season. Definitely SC is the only way to go.

RE: Road Tolls - What Am I?

Ditto here also, two receipts. Have only had a couple of times where we were charged a less, sometimes for truck and trailer but most of the time it is bus and auto.

RE: Credit Card Info

We have had cards denied for this reason in the US (we're Canadian) and now notify all our CC companies that we are travelling. Pays off as we had an unauthorized charge in Playa del Carmen and they were able to catch it immediately. It only takes a few minutes to notify CC companies about international travel and well worth the effort.

We used ours in Cancun a few years ago and there was no problem.

RE: getting vehicle permits online - sounds like a good plan

I was just checking out the site and notice that if you change the country to Canada it does list the provinces. I haven't done mine yet but plan on doing it before coming down in December. Anything that will speed up process but last year when we came through Lukeville we were all finished in about 20 minutes - Can't beat that.

RE: BC'ers, watch that ICBC rebate

We have never had any problems getting our refund. Of course, I load them up with paperwork, all receipts including those toll receipts. I use a copy of the information from our tow vehicle and write a letter of explanation regarding the ten year permit. So far has not been a problem

RE: what size star choice dish will work in mazatlan

We have a 60 cm eliptical dish roof mounted and we have used it all through Mexico. A few years ago we toured down the East coast and spent time in the Yucatan and back up the West coast and never had any trouble with our signal.

Thanks Sandy and Cynthia for keeping us updated as to the situation in your area. It is great that Arturo's is helping out for those passing through this area. Our good wishes to all in the area and I will stay in touch with this forum to keep up with all the news.

RE: Indian Land Grab: Rancho Buganvilias Closed!!!

Yes, let's stay on the original topic. Sandy is giving us needed information about travel in that area should anyone want to venture into Michoacan. Thank you Sandy and keep it coming.

RE: Pets & copper canyon

A couple of years ago we made the train trip through the Copper Canyon. We made arrangements for the El Fuerte RV Park to look after our dogs (2). Bill's handiman was the one to look after the dogs and we were pleased with him. I am not sure about Los Mochis because it seems to have changed ownership but you could try contacting them. Good luck and enjoy the Copper Canyon - it is fantastic.

RE: Indian Land Grab: Rancho Buganvilias Closed!!!

Somehow it doesn't appear to be settled. There still seems to be conflict in the area. I sincerely hope this can be settled sooner rather than later as this is a beautiful section of the coast in Michoacan.

RE: Newbs Head South to Kino

A good source for both Guido Roja and Church's book is Amazon.com. I was able to get both my books there along with a few other good travl books. I am a bit of a travel book freak so I go to them quite often.
