RE: Power question

I will check the water level when I put it all back together again. I ordered one from bestconverter.com. I appreciate all the help. The reverse polarity fuses were both good. Couldn't figure out how to check the 12 volts from them. All I got was 0.0 no matter where I put the probes. The converter makes NO noise at all when plugged in.
I went with a PowerMax Boondock 45 amp.
Will let you know when I get it all together and cross my fingers, it all works again!!

RE: Power question

Just wanted to be sure that I am checking this right. I have pulled the converter out of my rig and it's in my house. I plug it in like this. Just checking that is right? Because I'm still getting 0.01 output.

RE: Power question

What's in it now is output: 13.6 VDC and 45 amps. Should I go higher in the amps or will it not make much of a difference. We are not full timers. We only go out a few times a year locally for the most part and one big trip in the summer.

RE: Power question

So the next dumb question is this. Are the only things going to the converter those two cables from the battery, and the ground? Then I think I could change it out myself if those are all that's going to it.

RE: Power question

OK. I followed this troubleshooting diagram from the company :
http://www.parallaxpower.com/7400/Flowchart7400.pdf
I undid the two cables coming it to the converter. Used the voltmeter and got 0.01. So I am assuming the converter is bad.

RE: Power question

Thanks Dale.. I got nothing when I switched them so I switched them back and got the same 4.36 or so.
enblethen - The two fuses on the back of the converter are fine and then one on the battery is fine too. the grounds all looked okay and were tight.

RE: Power question

Thanks Clay. They are brand new batteries. 2 weeks old. With the aux switch on or off it reads 4.35. The RV has been plugged in for at least 2 weeks and have had 120 the whole time.

RE: Power question

Just to be sure, I'm attaching an image of my meter. I put in on DC and turn it to 20 (was told to turn it to the number just higher then what you're looking for). Then I touch the ends to the posts on my batteries and I get 5.6 on each battery. Is that the correct way to measure the output of the converter? I found that on another forum.

RE: Power question

Checked all the connections at the battery. They didn't appear corroded and everything was nice and tight.

RE: Power question

I have a voltmeter. How would I check the output of the converter? Will go out and check the connections at the battery also.

RE: Power question

All outlets have 120. Both TV's work. No circuit breakers have been opened (for lack of the word I want). All fuses I could find (8 for the coach) were all good. The two on the converter were fine, and the one at the batteries was fine also.

RE: Power question

I went out this morning and had power. Turned the heater on and was messing around inside and then the power dimmed and I had nothing. The CO alarm is alarming reading low voltage. No refer, no anything. The outlet is 120. Not sure how to check the output of the converter though. It is a 30 amp. all outlets work.
I really appreciate your help.

RE: Power question

OK Thanks. Guess I may end up having to take it to my local dealer and have them troubleshoot and fix. Just don't want to pay an arm and a leg for something that might not be needed. I appreciate all the help.

RE: Power question

First off, I cycled the aux battery switch off (lost lights) on got lights back. I had been out and running it for a bit, so not sure if I only had lights because it had charged up a little bit. I turned the water pump on and it worked, turned power on to the refer and it all came on.
This might be a dumb question, but do I need to leave some 12V stuff on for the converter/charger to continue to work. It's been parked all winter and I shut all of that stuff off.

RE: Power question

Thanks. I checked the fuses on the inverter and they were fine. The lights work when I go back out without turning the engine on, but they are weak, so I'm assuming it's the batteries dying.
While the engine is running I have the furnace running. Tomorrow morning when I go out none of the 12 volt stuff will work. Will have to find my voltage meter and test the outlet to the converter. Last summer when I checked it was good.

What is in it is a MagneTek 7400 Coverter/Battery Charger. Gonna go check all the circuit breakers and fuses.

Power question

Have a question. I have new batteries and plugged into shore power. It has been plugged in for a week or so. When I go out to the RV, I have power to all the outlets, but the lights do not come on and the lights on my power meter are off. When I start the RV the lights on the power meter come on and I have lights. Just curious why I have to start the RV to get the lights to work. When I shut the RV off the lights stay on.

RE: Generator Oil Change

I may change it all again. The "O" ring did come off with the old filter. I put some oil on the new ring. Now when I took the old filter off, the oil that came out of that was jet black. Not sure if that means anything. Maybe my pan was a little dirty, and it wasn't really the old oil?
