RE: Pictures of inside remodel-1994 georgie boy pursuit class A.

Nice job. You really know how to lay carpet on irregular surfaces. I like the fact that you put tile (laminate?) on the high traffic areas and in the bath. Our used coach came with new carpet everywhere, even the bathroom. Are you going to do anything more than the floors?

RE: For those of you who fly the American flag at your camp

Here is a link to the basics of flag etiquette. The first item on the list: "The flag should be lighted at all times, either by sunlight or by an appropriate light source." It troubles me when people don't show proper respect for the American flag, symbol of our great nation. In our current culture, it seems, little respect is shown for anything or anybody. Let's not lose our respect for the flag..."and (for) the republic for which it stands."

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Changed out the transmission temp sender on my 25 year old coach. I have been looking for one for five years. I finally found it at Custom Instrument Panels. Great company to do business with. They sent one out, and it was the wrong one. They sent the replacement from NC to OR in 3 days with a note attached asking me to please return the first one when it was convenient. (I had already sent it.) I also put a coat of Rustoleum primer and two coats of silver metallic paint on the shelves in the fridge. The plating was pealing off, and new shelves are $50 apiece! Spent $15 instead of $200. DW says it looks like a new fridge. BTW, does anyone know how to spray wire shelving, without wasting 90% of the paint on overspray?

RE: And Now...the Rest of the Story...

Started boating as a small child. In 1970, I bought my first sailboat, a 26' plywood-hulled, bald-headed schooner with concrete in the bilge for ballast! Later owned a Catalina 27, Catalina 30 and a Passport 40. We sailed up and down the Washington coast and through the San Juan and Gulf Islands. Once tried to circumnavigate Vancouver Island in a Catalina 30, but the weather drove us back around Port Hardy and down the inside passage. I loved sailing and gunkholing, but the Passport 40 was the victim of a divorce. I chartered boats for years thereafter. Now have a new DW and took up RVing. RVing is easier, but many lessons from boating have come in handy, not the least of which is "stay on top of your maintenance." The biggest difference to me is that boats are solidly built, and RVs are slapped together with the cheapest possible materials. I chose my Hawkins Motor Coach because is reminds me of some of my boats in quality and interior finish. It even has fiddles on the kitchen countertop!

RE: 8'6" width concerns

Why, pray tell, would a width of 102" (8-1/2') VS 96" (8') matter when on the road or in a CG? It probably wouldn't. On the other hand, I have a MH that is 96" wide. My RV garage door is 10' wide. The mirrors clear the door by about 2" on each side. If I got a "wide body" (102" wide) I suspect that I would have to remove the mirrors to get in my garage. There are considerations other than on the road or in a CG.

RE: More Fifth-wheels than TTs?

In an EXTREMELY unscientific study that I conducted while on our 3,700 mile/18 day trip this month I concluded that there were FAR more 5th wheel trailers on the road than TTs. I found that interesting because in the last large-ish trip we took, I felt the TTs out-numbered the 5ers. In addition, on the RV sales lots, I seemed to see more 5th wheels for sale and typically situated in the more visible places on the lot. Anyone know whether ownership trends are moving toward 5th wheels? My statistics prof would call it an "error of random sampling." That's why "scientific" studies need to be read with careful attention to the details of the study design. The most accurate studies are those that have had the most variables eliminated. In this case they would include time, location, definitions of TT, 5er, etc. In addition, the larger the sample size, the more accurate the findings. Still, informal tallies are fun...especially when your own chosen RV style comes out on top!

RE: RV Parks Santa Barbara, CA and Portland OR

Pheasant Ridge RV Park in Wilsonville (just south of Portland) is top rated by Good Sam. We've stayed there a couple of times. Staff is friendly and helpful and the park is well maintained and attractive. Downtown portland is about a 15 minute drive. Wilsonville is a nice little town located on the Willamette river. There is lots of shopping near the park and a family entertainment center with miniature golf, go-carts, and an arcade. Lots of good restaurants in Wilsonville.

RE: Please read what this forum is about before posting

It has always seemed to me that this forum should be called something like "How to use the forums." "Forum Technical Support" sounds like it is a forum for unspecified technical issues, of which there are many in RVing. On the other hand, I have to agree with gbopp. Just click on newest and read the latest. I have learned so much good stuff that way.

RE: Smoked at the Pedestal Need Help (long post)

Get a 10+ amp portable battery charger and slap it direct on the battery. Get an extension cord and plug it into the 20a pedestal outlet direct. X2 I boated for 20 years and never heard of a converter. Just had a battery charger to plug into shore power, and a generator on the engine to charge when at sea.

RE: Please put our Chubby on your prayer list. UPDATE

I had a little dog years ago that had grand mal seizures. It took two weeks in the vet's office and blood work sent to a human hospital lab before the vet discovered it was Addison's disease, a malfunction of the adrenal cortex. With the proper medication she lived another 6 years. (When I think that the vet bill came to $160, I can't believe it. It costs that much to go in for an annual check up for our little ones now!!) Here's hoping the vet can find the cause quickly and take corrective action.

RE: Billings MT to Coeur d'Alene ID

Thanks for all the replies. We have RVed in the Rockies in UT, CO, AZ and found we could always do it. I just want to avoid miles of 8% grade and that sort of thing. I've driven I-90 in this area, but it was years ago and in a sedan, so I don't recall anything except the spectacular beauty.

RE: PRNDL Indicator repair

Your gear indicator is just as important to have working CORRECTLY as say the brakes. What if SOMEONE ELSE like a spouse, son, daughter needs to move the RV? X2 When I bought my MH, I had not driven one before. The gear indicator on mine is off by about 1/2 a gear. Consequently, I drove the 50 miles home in 2 instead of D. I thought I had made the worst mistake of my life, as the Tach read 4000 RPM at 55 mph. Luckily I didn't blow up the engine or transmission. I look forward to seeing the answer to this question. I would love to have my PRND21 indicator accurately indicate which gear the transmission is in.

RE: RV Home Theater Issues

Anyone have any idea who manufactures this system or where to locate a manual online or otherwise? Just bought a used (very slightly used) 2005 Montana 3400RL. The sound system says "Home Theater System QR2000" but there are no manuals with it and a Google search is coming up blank. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here you go: Toshiba QR 2000 Manual

RE: Don't Buy and Old Motorhome Unless...

I have a friend who always buys fairly used cars. He always figures to put into the car an amount of money equal to what he paid for the car. So, if he finds a car for $2,500, he figures on spending $5,000. Since I met him, I have used the technique and it seems to work out pretty well. My 1988 motor home was 19 years old when I bought it. I have put into it an amount about equal to what I paid for it and feel comfortable taking off on a cross country trip in June.

RE: Auto Parts Store

Maybe these guys can help. They have a place to enter the VIN of your F53 chassis. That should give you pretty accurate information about what parts you need.

RE: Air Ride on a Class A Gasser

Just adding bags won't do much for the ride other than being able to adjust the chassis ride height if the springs are getting a bit weak. I respectfully disagree. I didn't know from airbags until I decided to fill the ones on the rear axle of my coach (after I had had the coach a couple of months!). The ride and handling improved noticeably. Then I discovered that the front axle had airbags, but as is typical for older P30 coaches, the OEM air bags had split. I replaced them, and what a difference. The coach rides better, tracks better and is easier to steer.

RE: Should I rent to friend of a friend

My father once asked my brother if he could borrow his 37 foot sailboat. My brother replied, "Dad, I don't loan out my wife, and I don't loan out my sailboat."
