RE: What tires do you suggest?

I had Michelin XPS Ribs on my '97 LTV and had great results with them. A big of a hard ride because of the steel sidewalls, but replaced them after a trouble free suggested 7 years over some hard road surfaces. Replaced them with Bridgestone Duravis R250; same construction and same performance; quite a bit less expensive.

RE: Charging Batteries During Storage

I agree with the solar option if you want an additional power source for camping while travelling. We have two 50 watt panels mounted on the roof of the van, with a Morningstar regulator, and very seldom have need to run the genset except to exercise it. The solar panels were moved from our previous 5th wheel when we got smart and bought a B. Recycled panels that are 20 years old and have lost very little of their output. Disconnecting one of the battery leads works as well, but if you have access to a couple of solar panels, you will never regret using them. Barry

RE: Trying to buy new shocks. very frustrating

I ordered my heavy duty Bilstiens from Don's Sport Vehicle Sales (eshocks.com) for my '97 Leisure Travel Van on a Dodge B300 chassis. They were very helpful on their 1-800 number, selecting the proper shock for front and rear. Had them mounted at home with no problem. They even shipped for free in the U.S.A. Good luck Barry

RE: Looking at a 92 Popular 190

We have a '97 LTV on a Dodge chassis with the 360 engine and feel the 360 for that year van is ideal. Easy and inexpensive to maintain and repair (although have not had repairs in 195,000km's) Have had to repair a toilet leak due to a frozen inlet valve which was simple and inexpensive. The Onan genset may be another story. Mine is in the shop as of now with a no start problem. So far it requires a "new carb", new muffler, and a new circuit board. No start was a broken ground to frame and the carb was varnished. Estimate for removal, diagnostics, parts, repairs and reinstall will probably end up close to the cost of 2 Hondo 2000 portables. However, if you want a reliable built in generator with a remote start, you bite the bullet and grimace. Most repairs on the old Dodge will be acceptable if the price is right. As for the Genset, it depends on your tolerance for shock. Good Luck Barry

RE: What to say at U.S. border crossing?

Listen to John & Angela, Moisheh, and The Texan. They all know from long time experience. Another thing I do at all border crossings is turn the engine off. Just think how much exhaust fumes border personel must put up with during a shift! It is greatly appreciated. Barry

RE: Can I make this road trip?

We have a '97 Leisure Travel Van and have travelled in Louisiana, Texas and New Mexico in Jan. through March quite a few times and have not had any freezing issues at all. Usually a freeze during the night will not be long enough to do any damage. However if you plan to leave the van in Ruidosa at higher altitude, you may feel more comfortable draining the tanks (hot water tank as well) and blow out the lines as suggested. If we need to winterize our van, blowing the lines and puting a little anti-freeze in the traps has worked for us for 8 years. Good luck and have fun. Skiing by any chance? Great ski hill at Ruidosa. Parts and repairs

We have travelled Mexico in our '97 Dodge class "B" Van a few years ago with no difficulties. However the van now has 190,000 kms on it and I am now concerned about availabilty of parts and repairs to the old "girl" It is still in good mechanical condition and well maintained. Are my concerns warranted? or are parts and repairs readily available for old Dodge products in Mexico? Thanks for the help. Barry

Steering damper

We have a '97 Leisure Travel Van on a Dodge 3500 chassis. While in for maintenance it was discovered the steering damper has just about run it's course. The shop is having a difficult time finding a replacement. EEE/LTV manufacturers have been no help! Any suggestions as to suppliers/makes or has anyone gone without a damper and with what results? Thanks in advance for any input. Barry
