RE: Do Class A drivers need instructions before driving

Seems to me like people need more of an education to drive a car. There are way too many crazies on the road.

RE: Beware of Flying J

We only purchase FJ/Pilot if there is nothing, and I mean nothing else around. I don't like being price gouged because they might be a little easier to get into. We just drove I-95 from Florida to NY. My last fuel stop was Elkton, Md. FJ/Pilot - 3.899
Valero - 3.619 So where do you think I stopped? 18 cents per gallon is a decent savings.
Our 40' DP - towing a Buick Rendezvous was able to get in and out with no problems.

RE: NYC campground recommendations

You might also consider Croton Point Park. It is on the Hudson River north of the city. Rate is about $50 per night for full hookup. You can take the train to the city. About a 30 minute trip.
In fact we will be arriving there today. We plan to be there for a week.

RE: Toyo vs Hankook Tires

Toyo is better. Can you explain how they are better? Is it Warranty? Is it thread compound? Is it thread design?, Is it the number of ply? Is it because they are cheaper? Just is because they are Japanese instead of Korean? Just how are they better??? Please qualify your statement!
Actually, the Toyo's on my coach were manufactured in the USA. I replaced six side wall cracked Michelin's two years ago. We have put 16,000 miles on them. I am very pleased with the ride. I would buy them again.

RE: Newer entry level DP bunkhouses?

...One thing I did not mention is that I am not crazy about the forward door on most Dp's. A lot of the newer smaller DPs have the mid ship door. I prefer that. Not a deal breaker but on my list.
Agree 100% on that door position, thats actually a deal breaker for us. Absolutely HATE door being in front of the passenger. Makes you feel like you're driving a school or tour bus. LOL, when I test drove one like that once, I kept thinking I needed to put out a stop arm and turn on flashing red lights whenever we stopped. :B
Will
Will, it seems as though there are a couple of deal breakers for you. No rear window in the bedroom and the location of the entry door. You're right, a DP probably won't be in your driveway.
I'll drive my bus and be very happy.

RE: Thor quality

It seems to me that I've seen people say "no way", and I've seen just as many say, "no problems". It does seem that when someone asks for a list of the top manufacturers, Thor doesn't seem to make the cut. I'm not sure I've ever seen Thor on anyone's top list.
We have a Thor product that we're happy with. It's not a higher end unit, but we also didn't pay a higher end price for it. We feel like we got some nice features for the money spent.
I think that within any manufacturer's offerings, you're going to have poor quality issues from time to time. No manufacturer will have 100% satisfaction.
I'd find a Thor/Tuscany owners' forum and ask there. They'll be able to give you first-hand answers.
X2
A Thor product was the top of our list when we started looking for a motorhome about three years ago. We have a Thor DP that we are very happy with.
Actually on a poll thread conducted a couple of years ago on this website Thor gas vehicles were 3rd among those that completed the poll. After Thor was the Monaco line, followed by Tiffin and National. Newmar ended up in 8th position.
Good luck in your search.

RE: new tires

Have a 2007 Fleetwood Expedition, 38', 6 tires. Need new tires; recently talked to a CW tech who advised us that Michelin tires now having problems with dryrotting, need to consider others. Any suggestions or recommendations?? Thanks!
Don't let everyone fool you, Michelin has had their share of problems with their RV tires. In 2011 I replaced seven year old Michelin's that had side wall cracks. Side wall cracks have been a problem with their tires for a while. Do a search on this website and you will be able to read plenty.
I replaced the Michelins on my coach with Toyo truck tires and they have been great.

RE: New tire psi question...

My Toyo's on a hot day in Florida max out at around 115 F.
The rule of thumb is for every 10 degree Fahrenheit change in air temperature, your tire's inflation pressure will change by about 1 psi.

RE: Who uses GPS?

We always have a GPS on along with an iPad. We are into geocaching, and almost anywhere you might be you are likely to find a cache. We make decisions like stopping for a break, lunch, fuel, selecting a campground, etc. based on the availability of caches.
We carry plenty of maps thanks to AAA, but I usually prepare a trip guide the night before so that I don't have to rely on either maps or GPS unless it's a matter of a road closure or something.
We are also geocachers. We use a Garmin 1450 in the motorhome and the toad. We use a Garmin 60CSx to search for the geocaches along with a Samsung Galaxy IIIS Smartphone with a geocaching app.
We love GPS devices. Sorta like American Express, "never leave home without it."

RE: diesel motorhome tires

The 2004 coach we purchased in 2011 had the same tires with the same sidewall cracking.
I did replace the Michelins with TOYO - 295/75-22.5's

RE: After market auto start for generator

I installed the Onan EC-30 Automatic Generator Controller. We travel with pets and we wanted to make certain that the a/c units would still function if shore power was lost while we were away form the coach. It was easy to install and it works great. It can also be set to auto-start the genset if your house batteries start to get low voltage. It has a lot of nice features.

RE: limitations on class A length at parks

We have travelled between Florida and New York for a couple of years with our 40 footer. We have not had any problems finding campsites. We've stayed in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virgina, Washington D.C./Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New York. In many of the places we were in State or County parks. In some of the others Passport America parks.
We do our homework and plot our course ahead of time.

RE: Thinking of upgrading

I can't give you any information about the rig you are looking at. But, I can tell you that Thor Customer Service is very good. I had a few question when I purchased our 2004 Escaper. Their customer service was great in answering all my questions.

RE: Is Florida the best state to purchase a type A motor home

I live about 100 miles north of Ft. Myers. I got my best deal from a small family owned business just north of Orlando/Kissimmee at Quality Motor Coach They don't carry a large inventory, most of the units are bank repo's. They were great to do business with.

RE: A real dilemma...

Of course, the OP has to make the final decision. However, as independent as she may appear, I think the lady would prefer to have family to rely on, rather than 'hired companions'. It's different if the older person was estranged due to family dysfunction. I believe most parents would smile and say, 'You kids don't worry about me, and have a good time!'. If she is not a very social person, she may be lonely. That's hell when you're old.
Your comments are right on. And yes she does say, 'You kids don't worry about me, and have a good time!'. As far as being lonely, she claims that she isn't. If she is, it is due to the recent loss of her cat.
I don't know, only time will tell I guess.
