RE: Power Outlet

There is way to much bad electrical information here. Would you care to elaborate on your comment? I am curious what bad electrical information you are referring to. Since I am a licensed electrical contractor, and make my living doing electrical contracting, I am always willing to learn new things. Thanks in advance. I was making a general statement. I believe this installation should be handled by a licensed electrician based on the original question. There is also no way to verify what qualifications a poster has. Sorry if I offended anyone.

RE: Guardian?

Why are Generacs bad? Aren't they the #1 selling generator in the home market? I sell generators (Generac, Briggs, and Kohler). I have people who swear off Briggs because they had a problem with a lawn mower 50 years ago. So they buy a Generac. IMO, the Briggs is way better. Frickin' dinosaurs. Anything is better than a generac. #1? Marketing hype and that they are priced lower than everybody else. They are priced lower because they take shortcuts building them out of the cheapest material possible and then do their best in denying any and all warranty claims. Hmm. Sounds like bitterness. How about backing that up with facts? If Generac is so bad, why are they installed in thousands of businesses as well as hospitals, police stations, 911 centers, etc. How many warranty issues have you had to deal with Generac on? I am guessing not as many as I have. I have not had any issues dealing with them on warranty claims. I have personally been involved with over 200 installations of Generac generators, not just 1.

RE: Rv circuit breakers

Each manufacturer of breakers has a style, and they are not interchangeable physically in the box, so take a sample to the store with you. What I found last time I did this was that there are standard 1/2" wide breakers that support 2 circuits, each with and independent breaker. So if you are adding circuits that is a nice way to go. Brian Nope, you're wrong. I bet I can interchange a GE, Cutler Hammer BR, Square D HOM, Bryant, or Murray. As a matter of fact, I have seen multiple brands of breakers in a new RV panel. They should use bolt in breakers for an RV so they don't come loose.

RE: Source for replacement cordless 19.2 V batteries ?

All these battery packs contain AA size cells, connected together to make the pack. If one goes bad it effects the whole pack. WHAT!!!????

RE: Power Outlet

DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE ON THIS SITE ABOUT THE ELECTRIC. PLEASE CONSULT AN ELECTRICIAN, THE NEC, AND/OR YOUR LOCAL INSPECTOR FOR YOUR AREA. Yes I was shouting. There is way to much bad electrical information here.

RE: Spinner Rims

Way to funny. I was actually looking to get some spinners as a joke. BTW, I have the yard decoration TcDa showed.

RE: GPS Recommendations....

I'm not real happy with Garmin right now. I have an older Garmin that crashed. as well as my computer crashed. I have the disk, I have the Garmin, but I can't load my maps because Garmin is so paranoid about someone stealing their map info, they won't unlock them. I'm on vacation and can't use my GPS because of these boneheads. The serial numbers are at home. Any intelligent company would have put the stickers on the disk, at very least. Most companies are not so worried about getting every last cent out of every last person who uses their products, that they make sure they don't cripple their functionality, if something goes wrong for the legitimate user. If they had any brains, they should at least recognize their own product as plugged into your PC and unlock the maps automatically. Update: I just finally got the info online. Going through the automated access required an email address that is no longer valid, which meant it would not work. Just going to Garmin's website and entering in my serial number finally got the code. So after 2 days, I finally have maps and can actually enjoy my vacation. The lead in to this vacation has been nuts. Everything from loosing 2 year old wheel bearings to a catastrophic crash to my primary laptop on the day we were supposed to leave. Heres a tip. I always write the serial number of any software I buy on the disk with a Sharpie. Its too easy to lose the packaging.

RE: Pulling in forward in a back in spot

How many of you all do this? I saw a comment on another thread that said they had a great view and it would have been better if the site were a pull in rather than a back in. We carry extra hoses and cord so that we can pull in a site forwards, backwards, sideways, etc. Well, I guess it was 'our' discussion in the other thread that prompted you to start this thread. For those that didn't see what we were talking about.... I stopped at the Rutledge Lake RV park in Asheville, NC. Nice park (youtube film by 2Cyber71) and the lake-front spots are back-in's. I, of course, backed-in but wondered why they designed it that way. We had a nice view of the Lake from our patio. It would not have been conducive for me to pull in forward as my patio would have been right on the patio of my neighbors. They had a lot going on with their picnic table, bicycles, kids, etc. Last year, while in Cumming, GA, at the Twin Lakes RV park, the people on the Lake DID pull in forward. I also pulled in forward so my connections were at my front door. I was able to pull the electric cord and hose that far without extensions. I had to side step the electrical post when exiting the coach and also wondered why they put the electrical there and why they didn't move it to accommodate the guests who, obviously, wanted to view the lake from the their front windows! There were no sewers at the site, just a common dump station on the property. MM. :S You caught me!

RE: fresh water tank

I'd leave a little water in it myself, just in case the city water goes down for some reason. could happen. bumpy Ditto. Also, what happens if you have to pull out for an emergency? Put a teaspoon of bleach in the water in the tank to keep it sanitized.

RE: Do YOU use your awning in the rain?

rain-Yes, it dumps itself. sun-Yes wind-no grill-yes As far as I'm concerned the auto-wind sensor is worthless.... Cyber, my wind sensor works really well. If the wind reaches 25+, then it will retract. The awning is angled for water run-off but I'll pull it in if we're gone and it looks like rain. By the way, I saw your 'youtube' review on the Rutledge Lake RV park in Asheville and stayed there a week and a half ago. It was nice to see the park before we got there. We were able to get a lake front spot but it's odd that they are back-in's. It would have been nice if the big front windshield faced the water. MM. Your kidding right? When we are faced with a great view or hooking up some extra hoses, guess which one wins?

RE: Hot Weather, Hot Basements, Ruined Contents

We learn from our mistakes that many things hate extreme heat. I left a laptop in the car in Las Vegas for just a few hours. The screen became fried, and data could only be displayed as fuzzy white on a fingerpaint red background. Took it for repair, it was toast. I've had a can of tomato paste pop, and crayons melt. Things attached with glue slip. When I store my MH here in SoCal I always leave two fans, attached to portable timers, in operation. They go on at dawn, and are set to stop at about 9pm. I also leave the roof vent ajar, allowing for heat release. Even with these precautions when I check the MH, it is not uncommon for the inside temp to be between 90 and 100+. Such is life in the desert. DId you know that the fans will not cool the RV? All they will do is circulate the warm air (and actually warm it up a bit). Having an exhaust fan running is a better idea. You also need to supply fresh air also. Fans for cooling work on the principle of wind chill. If there are no humans, animals, or plants in there (stuff with moisture) then inanimate objects will not feel the cooling effects of the fan.

RE: ellectric problems

What is the ampacity of your batteries? What is the kW rating of the TV? Maybe 2 hrs. is all you can get.

RE: Cable TV not working

Is the antenna booster on? If so, it should be off. Is the cable plugged into the Cable In or the Satelite In? It should be Cable In. Is your TV input set to Air or Cable? It should be Cable. Are all the connections from the cable input to the RV to the TV connected? Try connecting the cable directly to the TV. There are a few things to check.

RE: What is a OPEN NEUTRAL

Almost a perfect post with the exception of the GFCI. The GFCI works by monitoring the current balance between the HOT and the NEUTRAL. If there is a fault (i.e. electricity going through you instead of the circuit, the GFCI will trip). FYI, GFCIs do not need a ground wire to function properly. In fact, the NEC allows you to replace 2 prong outlets (that do not have a ground) with a GFCI outlet. Modern GFCIs are designed to trip with either hot to ground or ground to neutral faults. Hot to ground would cause an imbalance between the hot and neutral, so yes the GFCI would trip. You would also trip the breaker on a short like that. Neutral to ground may cause an imbalance between the hot and neutral, so the GFCI may or may not trip. Remember, neutral and ground are at the same potential. The breaker probably would not trip.

RE: What is a OPEN NEUTRAL

Neutral and ground are not permitted to be tied together anywhere else. Neutral is a current carrying wire, ground is NEVER a current carrying wire. (side note: GFI's detect current flow between ground and neutral, and shut the circuit down if it exists, ground is NEVER allowed to carry current.) Almost a perfect post with the exception of the GFCI. The GFCI works by monitoring the current balance between the HOT and the NEUTRAL.
