RE: 5th Wheel Travel with Large Dogs

Our Akita rides on the back bench seat between the kids in their booster seats. I'm sure she wishes we had a mega-cab, but so far so good for 3+ years. I have a boonie box that fills in the spot between the seat and the console and put a dog bed on top of that. She curls up and rests her head on the console. She is on the small side for an Akita, only 85lbs.

RE: 2000 Dodge Cummins with 3.55 gears

^^What Chris said! I swapped my 3.55's to 4.10's but the truck does nothing but tow now and the speed limit is 55MPH. Now I'm right at 2000 RPMs at 65MPH. I also do a lot of towing on winding mountain roads. I killed a couple stock 47re's because I was in second or sometimes first where the converter doesn't lock up so I heated them up pretty good. I've done a lot to the truck (built trans, injectors, programmer, exhaust brake) and it's a real towing machine now (and paid off for almost 10 years). If your truck is still a daily driver and/or you don't go up steep winding mountain roads (15-20 MPH turns) you probably don't need the 4.10's. Just be careful if you have to get down into first or second because the TC doesn't lock on a stock trans and it'll heat up really fast. Personally, they were a great choice for me.

RE: Reservations about reservations

We always make reservations. We travel during scheduled vacations, have 2 school aged children and a 37' FW, we like to get where we're going and know we'll fit in the site. We don't care to spend time looking for a campground and the shorter the commute to the sights the better for the kids. I also like the peace of mind that comes with knowing we have a place to stay.

RE: 2000 Dodge 2500 diesel

If you have the camper special you'll probably be right at level. 4WD might show a little squat (my 2WD has a pretty good rake when unloaded). My 12k lb fifth puts me just touching the overloads which seemed to cause me to bounce off them on our horrible roads. I added Air Bags so I could get off the overloads since I can't do much about the roads. :-)

RE: Caution - When installing LT 235/85R16's vs ST235/80R16

My LT's barely look like they have a load on them where the STs were bulging and looked overloaded even on 5200lb axles. The STs would flex like crazy on turns where the LT's show no signs of stress. We even developed a bubble in the sidewall of one of the STs on our maiden voyage. I had good luck with some 15" STs on a smaller trailer but the 16" 235/80's were total garbage.

RE: "Virgin" 5th wheel guy

Better to have a manual slider and not need it in my opinion, but there are those that get by without one with the newer fifthwheels. As a newbie I'd go with the slider. When hitching, learn your hitch, come in low, verify visually and do a pull test. I like mine because I can see the bar close across the back of the pin. Really tough to high hitch. Leveling, first level side to side with blocks under tires then level front to back with front Jack's.

RE: 2013 Dodge Ram 2500 5.7 Hemi

http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/badidea.gif height=46 width=43 Your 01 Cummins should be pulling down 20 MPG easy. I'd spend/ save a few bucks and fix it up if needed. x2!

RE: Camping World "Sacramento"

Just wanted to say thanks again, Village RV (Camping World Sacramento) gave me a call. They're having phone issues, Brad had to call me from his cell. I'm going to send them a pic of the cracks so they can get the parts ordered and then we'll setup a time to get them replaced. Feel free to close this thread out.

Camping World "Sacramento"

They're actually in Roseville, CA, but close enough I guess. :) Anybody know if they're still open? I've tried all the numbers I can find from old business cards and the web site but nothing's working: 916-772-2785 800-266-1155 916-772-1155 888-496-9710 888-722-0117 We bought the trailer from them and they installed the EZ-Flex suspension for us. The rubber on the EZ-Flex is cracking really bad (like a lot have done) and I need to get it replaced. This was just done in Jan of this year so should be covered.

RE: Curt 5th wheel hitch

I have an E5 with the R5 slider, works great, simple to use; but if I didn't have a short bed I wouldn't have a slider. ;-)

RE: Exhaust / Engine brakes and RAM problems

Pac Brake here too. Comes with a controller to keep the TC locked. I have a valve body that will lock in all 4 so I can use the EB even in first without heating anything up.

RE: Propane

Pour hot water on the tank and your hand will feel the heat so when you feel the tank getting cooler that is the propane Chevman ^^This is what we do.

RE: Down Sizing our fiver. Here we go again

We're only 4' shorter and are doing fine. I'd hate to see you take it the shorts and then miss the extra room, especially since it sounds like you're full timing. Your choice of course and you need to be enjoying what you're doing, but maybe give it a little more time to see if you can't master maneuvering the 40 footer? Good luck with whatever you choose to do!
