RE: Pacbrake Exhaust Brake saga

First, the compressor I'm referring to is external and operates the brake. On other brands the brake operates from air off the engine. Second TJ the tech guy at the factory recommended this spot for relocation. It is mounted on the steel sub frame of the inside fender. Third while I like the unit, had I known the noise it makes I would have selected a different brand. I thought others might want to consider my above post before they bought this brand.

Pacbrake Exhaust Brake saga

Thought I would give anyone considering the purchase of a "Pacbrake" exhaust brake some additional info Pacbrake doesn't mention in their ads. After deciding to have a exhaust brake installed on my 06 Dodge automatic, I went on the web and two RV user sites to get feedback from other users. After favorable comments from other pacbrake users, I decided Pacbrake was the best system. Well, in June in Nevada (100+) degree temps, the system stopped working. Called the factory and was told to move the compressor from the top of the engine (as recommended) to the inside fender. To the factories credit they shipped the parts required and paid for the relocation. Thought OK everything fixed. Not so - Now you can hear the compressor over my diesel engine, and the exhaust brake releases a very loud hiss (like a semi truck) every time you let off the gas or step on the gas. Called the factory again and was told this is normal. This is not mentioned in their literature. Be aware!! before you buy one.

RE: Preventing Trailer Cord from Dragging

All I did was tie one loose knot in mine, and it doesn't drag and gives enough leway to do turns.

RE: Pacbrake PRXB on 2006 Dodge 2500 Diesel

Mine was installed by Camping World, next to the engine cover in front of the oil stick as Pacbrake recommended.

Pacbrake PRXB on 2006 Dodge 2500 Diesel

Just returned from a trip from Oregon to Arizona in 90+ degree weather. While going down a hill in Nevada, the Exhaust brake stopped working. Next morning it worked OK for about 2 hours, then stopped working again. This morning I contacted Pacbrake, and to make a long story short they said the compressor got to hot and shut down. Was installed as recommended by Packbrake. They say mount it on the inside front bumper. During my researh, not one word was ever mentioned about heat. Living in Arizona heat would be a factor prior to selection and purchase. When the brake works its great, however "IF" you are considering the Pacbrake be aware of this issue.

RE: Eternabond the Roof

I appreciate the comments so far, however haven't heard much about removing the caulking or not. Would like some info on that part.

Eternabond the Roof

Would like to get some input on using Eternabond. My rig is almost 3 years old and being out in the sun in Arizona, I'm thinking it may be about time to waterproof the seams on the roof. Have inspected the roof and the factory applied "caulking/sealant" is still in great shape. So my question is do I apply the Eternabond over the existing "caulking/sealant" or do I need to remove it.

RE: Composite Box - Toyota - and 5th Wheel Hitch

Steve,
I had the same exact situation when I purchased a Titan in 06. The problem wasn't necessarily the composite bed but no hitch manufacturer made the connecting u bolts for the titan. You may experience this problem also. I suggest you contact your hitch mfg and see if they are available. The dealer had to take back the truck and give me my money back as this was their fault. This may be what you end up doing.

RE: Grand Canyon

If you want to stay in the park (South Rim) stay in Trailer Park. It has hook-ups. Reserve through Xanterra. Jacobs Lake is closer to North Rim, and has been closed for the past two years for improvements. It may be open now. North Rim has a campground w/o hook-up is very nice. Another option is in Williams at the Grand Canyon Railway Campground. About a 2-3 hr ride to Grand Canyon Village. Hope this helps.

RE: New to 5ers. What's the scoop?

I agree with the other posters, while you have the time go to RV shows and visit the dealers to see what's on the market. I stumbled upon the 5th I bought by accident, while looking at units in Phoenix in 110 degree weather. It is a 4 season trailer, is certified in the US and Canada. Quality is excellent and still in business. Manufacturer is Northwood out of LaGrande OR, they make Nash and Arctic Fox.
