RE: Diesel vs gas......................

Hi. This is my first ever post, as it is the first answer I couldn't find. My wife is buying a fifth wheel horse trailer, and im not thinking my half ton HEMI is the best towing option as the trialer is 13500 lb. loaded. With that, she found a real nice Power Ram 2500 q/c 4x4 HEMI. Now, the GCWR is 17000lb, but the actual truck is only rated for 10800lb from factory. This is only 800lb more than my 2010 1500 HEMI is rated. This makes me very concerned with transmissions and whatnot. I want to look for a 2500 or 3500 diesel, but this truck is "pretty" and she really wants it. Is there any way i can increase this towing capacity to avoid a headache with transmissions, or do i put my foot down and look for a diesel? Thanks.
Buy a diesel. Hands down. Get ready for 30 more opinions. "My gasser has too much power" Said no one. Ever.

RE: Best air valve extensions for use with simulators?

Gonna bite the bullet and order the Tire Man solution. Can I install these easily myself?

RE: Towing my Jeep

I tow my TJ without issue. I probably should use brakes on it, but I don't and don't have an issue. Haven't towed in the mountains yet though.

Trans cooler Factory?

The trans cooler on our Jayco is leaking. I thought it was just the lines as they go into the cooler since they are using standard hose clamps. My mechanic looked at it and said the cooler itself was leaking and is also going to replace both lines at the same time. He found a factory Ford cooler and lines at the dealer by providing the VIN. I thought the cooler was probably added by Jayco since hose clamps were used and I didn't think Ford would use them at the factory. Thoughts?

Use Jacks When In Storage?

I have hydraulic stabilizer jacks; should I use them when the RV is parked for extended periods?

RE: 1999 Jayco M-323

Don't put too much stock in the NADA pricing; I've found it to be all over the place. I just sold my Toy hauler for much more than it listed for and also paid a bit more for my Class C. You really need to see what the market is bringing and also in your part of the country. Also, don't add up all the options; just use the base price to negotiate from. Good luck!

Anyone have a checklist for picking up a used RV? I'm flying out Monday to pick mine up and drive it home and would like to go through it.
Thanks!

Just bought my first Class C

Moving (up?) from our Toy Hauler to a used Class C. It's a 2000 Jayco Eagle, 27 ft 261P. I really like the floorplan. I fly out to get it in a couple weeks to drive it home. Any thoughts on this model?

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

My truck will pull up a grade faster than an 06 duramax stock for stock because it has more horsepower. Doesn't matter if it is 8k or 14k.
I try and stay on the sidelines after watching this thread beat the same horse to death over and over again, but sometimes a comment pops up and I can control myself. Your saying your 6.0 gas will out pull a 6.6 Duramax? Are you high?

Probably. Dunno where you camp, but many campgrounds don't allow gas carts.

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

All I need to know is when I push down on the right pedal, my diesel truck goes a whole lot faster and tows a whole lot better than my gas truck ever did.

RE: 3/4 ton -- why bother?

If you exceed the mfg ratng as printed on the door label in MD, you can be cited. If you are a CMV, you will be cited. The CMV laws are nationwide as they are Federal.

RE: 3/4 ton -- why bother?

Don't forget the cost of tags, registration and insurance.
This^^^. I was looking at getting a 3/4 ton for my next truck, but my father in law just purchased a 2012 3500 SRW gasser and his tags/plate cost him $80 (10,000 GVW). Mine cost almost $500 new, and still cost $235 this year. I'm definitely going 1-ton when it's time to buy.
??????
Why is it you pay $235 for a 3/4 ton and Dad pays $80 for a one ton?
Do you both live in Minnesota? Why does go down for higher GVWR??
Typically the cost of tags go up for higher GVWR, as the thought is more weight more wear on the roadways.
Does he get some kind of senior discount on tags? Looks like they are both Gas, so it isn't gas vs. diesel, what gives?
I agree. Same here. Doesn't make sense.

RE: 3/4 ton -- why bother?

So, when upgrading from a 1/2 ton why even consider 3/4 ton? Why not just jump straight to a 1 ton?
Because the difference between a "3/4 ton" and a SRW "1 ton" is minimal. In some cases the only difference is the sticker. In my particular truck the difference is 1 leaf spring and tires. Everything else is the same. My dad has an F250 with the camper package that actually has heavier springs than the same year F350 SRW. Frame, axles, brakes, all that stuff is the same. His truck even came with the same tires and wheels as a SRW F350. DRW is a different story. If things made sense in the pickup truck world we would have light duty pickups with a GVWR of about 7000 (150/1500 series), GVWR of about 9500 (2500 series) and a DRW pickup with a GVWR of about 12000 (3500 series).
You're mistaken. The truck in your sig has a lighter rear end than the 3500 or even 2500 with the Duramax or 8100. They also have the Allison trans where GM didnt offer it with the 6.0. I went to the 2500HD on my 08 only because GM wouldn't offer the 3500 with a short bed. They've since corrected that shortcoming. GM does all sorts of dumb things like that. If they gave the customer what they want, they may have avoided the bailout.
