RE: PUP Awning worth the darn?

Our PU is two years old. I've used the awning maybe four times out of the thirty or better weekend outings. If I was going to stay for a week or more, I'd use it. It's nice when it's up but I don't miss the assembly up and down. Now, if, it was more like the ones on a TT or RV, I'd prolly use it more.

RE: Palomino Traverse Yosemite

I went round and round with various vendors regarding specs. I would question Palomino since the Yosemite is virtually the same as the 4101. Check the spec's for each. You need to know if the genius that wrote the specs considered the weight of a battery and full propane tank. If the Yosemite is correct, I'd be cautious since the listed hitch weight of 135# is way less than the 10% of the dry weight of ~1900#. Before pulling the trigger, take a bathroom scale to the dealer and weight the tongue weight with a batt and propane.

RE: Where have all the FOLDING TRAILERS CAMPERS gone too...

I'm thinking that camping in general is seasonal. And that's OK. We live in Nor Cal east of SF and can enjoy year round camping. Having a nice CG twenty minutes from the house helps alot with the shorter daylight hours during the winter months. For January, we'll be a bit over an hour south in the Santa Cruz mts for MLK weekend since we all have that Monday off. Hope this helps.

RE: Atwood Furnace

I'm not into the smart phone portion of life yet. Heck, my phone has an antennae and doesn't take pictures. It makes phone calls. Anyway, If there is such an app for sound level and it's free, it would be nice to get more data from you all. Just askin'

RE: Noisy Hitch

Google up anti rattle hitch pin. There are many. I use this with great results. Before using it, the PUP seemed to want to flop around and/or crash and bang. Part number 93347 http://www.etrailer.com/dept-pg-Hitch_Accessories-sf-Anti~Rattle.aspx

RE: Atwood Furnace

Another point is that a squirrel cage type fan is quieter vs the prop style blade fan. There are CPU fans that will hover in the mid 20 to low 30's on the dB scale. They are usually multi bladed fans I would have thought that the industry should have addressed this noise issue long ago. Guess not.

RE: Atwood Furnace

I did find one post from a guy who put the Atwood 8012-2 in a small TT, maybe a tear, and used a sound level app on the iPhone to read 66 dB's at 1' from the discharge. Accurate? Dunno but it is a number. I used a sound level meter from radio shack on our Suburban NT-20SE and got 78 at the discharge and 55 at 6' away as read on the bunk. Way too noisy for me.

RE: How hard to set up a Pop-Up

Here is the lightest entry level Pop Up I have noticed. Has a fabric door and no features, though. http://www.starcraftrv.com/products/folding-campers/starflyer/floorplans-content?mod_id=1815

RE: How hard to set up a Pop-Up

Here is a Livin Lite link to their 8'ers. http://www.livinlite.com/8.0-floorplans.php Geesh. OK. OK. A 54" and the 60" is as close as I could get to having two queens in a 10' box. Doesn't closies count in horseshoes, hand grenades and PUP's. What I didn't want was a king on one end and a double on the other. My bed at home is a queen. Can's see having a king out in the woodz. And actually, I do notice that our rig could have afforded the extra 6" on the rear bunk and all would fit since the box is actually 10'6". Might just have to be the next mod. So what's the point of all this, For those shopping around for a folding trailer, be sure of the required sleeping arrangements.

RE: How hard to set up a Pop-Up

In my layman opinion, I agree with the above post about the A-frame. Being that the tow vehicle is a car, at least for now, doesn't allow much cargo area so to have the A-frame pop up in under a minute might be a blessing for last minute stowing. Traveling solo does allow one to pack for the minimum. Two coolers, some clothes, sundries and a chair should have you all set. Firewood and wine can be bought at the last store before hitting the CG. We have a 10' pop up for the four of us in order to get two queen sized bunks. The 8' pop ups usually have a queen at one end and a double at the other. A bit small for four, imo. Another tip that made sense after hearing it is to but your second trailer first. So don't short change yourself. Happy trails, I don't believe there is an 8 foot pop up made with a queen bed. Box is only 96 inches..queen is 60..wouldn't leave enough room for the other slideout.they are doubles only. and if you have 2 queens in yours it must be a 12 foot pop up.. Well, there ya go. And that's why I have a 10'er. One end is a 60" queen and the other is 54". It was as close as I could get to having two queens. I did not want a king on one end and a double on the other. Here is an example of an 8'er http://www.palominorv.com/productinfo.aspx?model=palominotentcampers&page=floorplandetails&floorplanid=208&RVType=

RE: Went from PUP to TT

I'd be willing to bet that the majority of PUP'rs to TT'rs did so when their towing ability and confidence grew. I chose a PUP because I like "to make camp". It nicely fits in the driveway. It can be dragged deeper into da woodz. It doesn't take a large TV to get me into da woodz. To each their own. I do appreciate the pic's. I foresee that our next RV is going to be driveable, thereby passing the TT segment of the program. Happy trails,

RE: Went from PUP to TT

Mt Madonna is on our fav's list also. We'll be there in 113RV for July 20-22. We like to use this CG as a jumping point to the beach. Takes about 45 minutes. I've been in 113RV before so no worries. Takes about an hour and a half from our house in Livermore. Is your pic from site 105?
