RE: Small (5W) solar panel does work to keep batteries okay

The OP is in "OTTAWA CANADA".....can you spell -35 degrees..... only a fool would let his expensive batteries sit for 6 months in those kind of temps.

RE: Replacement Converter PD9270v

At a typical 80% efficiency and 0.7 power factor, a maxed-out 60 amp converter will draw over 1,500 VA, and a maxed-out 75 amp converter over 1,900 VA. You can get away with higher than 60 amps on an eu2000i if you're willing to make sure the battery doesn't get highly discharged, cut other loads when necessary, and/or manually kick the converter out of boost mode when necessary. If you really need the bigger converter, a power factor corrected model might be justified.
whatever....I have watched my Iota 75 put 73 amps into the 50% battery bank while being powered by my Honda eu2000i.

RE: Replacement Converter PD9270v

The PD units are IMHO a definite improvement over the WFCO units. WFCO are not known for going into bulk mode charging for most users.
If you dry camp and use a 2000W or smaller generator, I'd recomend the PD60A unit over a bigger one. The reason is that the 60A is already near the max continous rated VA for many 2000W generators. The actual current draw is near 1500VA (much higher than the watts, related to the poor power factor) when charging well discharged batteries. The 70A unit may push you over the edge with a 2000W generator, especially at higher temps and high altitude.
If your not "generator" limited, go for whatever will fit.
My Honda 2000i runs my 75 amp Iota just fine.

RE: Jackhammering water pump

Those fittings are "Wirsbo Pex" fittings. The pipe and fitting are stretched with a special tool and then left to shrink back tight over the fitting. I am surprised to see them in an RV especially with those cheapo plastic fittings .

RE: hard wired or battery co detector

You also need one rated for unconditioned spaces- not a standard household one. I would replace it with the same model.
....and what exactly is an "unconditioned space"?

RE: 12 volt trouble in my trailer...

Problem solved!
I checked again tonight & was certain it would be the main ground or the main line breaker. I pulled the breaker cover under the tongue and with the battery connected there was no voltage drip across the posts. Then I rapped on it lightly with the handle of my screwdriver and instantly it began chattering and clicking. So, probably worn or pitted contacts, bad thermal strip not allowing it to reset but for $3:40 @ my local O'Reilly auto store its all up and running.
Never rely on the voltmeter alone! Always try and simulate a load or even vibration when troubleshooting. Thanks again to the forum members.
O'Reilly solves another one....welcome to the no spin zone.

RE: Iota Converter Question

mena, I will test mine today and see what they do.Thanks. I disconnected both the 12V and 120V for about a minute. Did not go into boost mode when I hooked them back up. Looks like I'll have to remove a good bit of surface charge before that happens. That part will have to wait a couple of weeks, going camping next weekend. :)
All else fails, RTFM.
http://www.iotaengineering.com/pplib/IQ4manual.pdf
Low trigger is 12.8V. Drop your battery below 12.8V and it will go into boost.
SalThere wasn't a manual with it but thanks for the link.
EDIT: Given what Sal just posted, a couple of days disconnected from the charger should do it. I'll give that a shot. Thanks again Sal.
OK Mine did the same thing. Disconnected the 12 volt and unplugged the converter. Plugged it back in and it stayed at 13.73. Disconnected both again for about 4 hours and the batts read 13.45. Hooked it back up and still 13.72. Looks like you will have to draw down the batts to get it to charge at 14.8. This was done with an Iota 45 with remote IQ4 and 4 6 volt Trojans.
