RE: Trojan T105 battery maintenance

I have 6 T105's and have been using the caps for years, they're great. They don't eliminate the need to add water but reduce the gassing. It uses some kind of "Magic beads" :E technology !

RE: % by volume

I don't know why it's not listed on the bottle but it's information that can be found anywhere. See Alcohol content Let's see ingredients in beer. . .Hops, barley and yeast about covers it. Unless you're drinking a wheat beer or some yuppie brew with avocados or strawberry's:( Have a cold one:) Just an FYI, in your travels if you have an opportunity to tour a brewery I highly recommend it. We toured the Bud brewery in Columbus, OH several years ago and it was a fascinating.

RE: KeePass?

One possible negative is that once you input your passwords & IDs into the system you can't see them again, so if you ever want to know a password you'll need to write it down & keep that document in a secure location. I don't understand, I've been using it for over a year and can see the passwords and id's. Simply click on the box to the right of the password, it's got three dots in it, and your password is displayed in plain language. Am I missing something?

RE: Need to Replace Plug on 50Amp Shore Cord

First, bolt cutters will work but a hack saw will as well. If you use a saw, you'll have to clean the end of each wire, a saw tends to leave a raggy end to the wire. Linemen's pliers or side cutters will work fine. You might try Lowes or Home Depot they may have the plug, if not, an electrical supply house will have them.

RE: Check Engine code J1939

Just an FYI, It looks like the J1939 is the protocol that provides all of the vehicle parameters. That's why you see just about everything go blank, then back to normal when you do a "PUPD" (Power Up Power down) that is, restart the engine, it's like re-booting the computer. See here It may be just a fluke but if it happens again, I'd definitely take it to an authorized dealer. Hope this helps.

RE: ScanGauge Volt meter - OK to jump around?

Sounds to me like it's operating normally. It's the voltage regulator kicking in, or out depending on how you look at it. I have a Scangauge II and the voltage will fluctuate between about 13.9 - 14.4. When it hits 14.4 the voltage regulator operates, voltage drops to about 13.9 then kicks in the alternator it slowly increases to about 14.4 then starts all over again. It put the SC II on my Chevy Colorado and it shows the same fluctuation, within a tenth of a volt. Note: I'm not a mechanic and I'm not sure if the VR operates or releases at 14.4 :hbut it's doing it's job:)

RE: Covering tires

I've had two major tire stores in different parts of the country tell me that if you're going to park it for an extended period, read months here, then they should be covered. However, if you drive it every couple of weeks for 10-20 miles and get the tires hot, there is no need to cover them. Apparently, getting the tires to operating temps keeps them in good condition and prevents drying out. But I echo skipnchar, "covers are cheap" Paul

RE: Boondocking around Nanaimo BC

I forwarded your post to a friend that was raised in Nanaimo, she said she was not aware of anyplace you could boondock. She is an avid boondocker and is having trouble finding anyplace in BC that is boondock friendly. Good luck. Paul

RE: BatteryMinder is an impressive charger!! Test Results Here

Alan, I'm interested in the CBA III tester and have a few questions that their web page did not answer for me, I wonder if you can help? First, I have 6 T105 RE's I just installed a week ago in series/parallel to provide me with 12V. 1. Can the CBA test individual 6V cells or must I test the 12V bank? 2. If you test the 12V bank, how does it determine if one 6V cell is going south and how does it identify it? I have a good carbon pile tester but that's kind of brute force testing. I'm looking for something that will give me more detailed data and provide metrics I can easily track. It looks like the CBA will do it. With a new bank, this is the perfect time to set up a monthly test schedule and keep track of performance. Another item folks reading this tread might be interested in is the Trik-L-Start Go here. We are full time boondockers and obviously, rely heavily on our batteries. And I agree, Anderson connectors are the only way to go. Thanks for your time. Paul

RE: Replacing Furniture-Remodel

We have an '05 Bounder and replaced the sleeper sofa with a Lazy Boy rocker recliner. As you know, on most if not all Lazy Boy chairs the back slides out and it was very easy to get it through the door. We also replaced the dinette bench seats with matching office desk chairs. We found them at Wal-Mart and the color perfectly matches the carpet and table. Our next project is to replace the dinette table. When driving the office chairs lift and fit snugly under the table and don't move. The rocker recliner is set against the wall and doesn't move. Yes if we're in a head on collision they're gonna fly around, but if that happens, the collision, I got other things to worry about. :S

RE: what am I doing wrong

old guy, I don't have an external tank or a Honda genny. However, years ago I had an old construction generator and I added an external tank, I experienced the same problem, it wasn't sucking gas. All of the fittings were compression fit copper tubing. After many days of trouble shooting, a friend suggested one of the connections may not be tight enough and it was sucking air. I triple check connections and all were OK but I did find a tiny split in the tubing and that's where the air leak was. I replaced it and had no further problems and the external tank worked great. It doesn't take much to introduce air in a hose, if your set up doesn't have one, you might try adding a primer bulb to get gas up to the carb in the genny.

RE: Hard Start capacitor kits

BillyW, Thanks for the information and that's exactly what I was looking for. I think the A/C and generator will run a bit easier with the SPP6. I saw a note on one of the sites I went to that said the SPP6E should not be used on an RV A/C, I don't recall why though. Thanks all for the information.

RE: Battery Endurance

If you plan to do a lot of boondocking, I suggest you get at least one 130W solar panel. Judging from your location, AZ, you'll have more than enough sun to keep the bats charged given your usage. I agree with previous posts, dump that coffee pot:E and get a French press, the coffee pot and warm plate are sucking power from your batteries.

Hard Start capacitor kits

Let me start by saying that all I know about HVAC is that A/C's make rooms cold and furnaces make rooms hot, so please be gentle:D. I have read some about hard start capacitor kits for A/C units, these gizmos like the Supco SPP6 Super boost seen here, http://www.azpartsmaster.com/Products/Supco-SPP6-Super-Boost-Hard-Start-Kit__SPP6.aspx appear to be for A/C's that are struggling to start, I guess due to age, wear etc. My question is if I put one on my 13.5BTU A/C that works just fine would it damage it in any way due to the increase is torque on compressor start up? My reason for installing one is that I'll be dry camping in the desert for some time and run the A/C from a EU3000Is generator, and my thinking is the SPP6 would present less of a drag on the generator. Does this make sense or should I save my $12.00. Thanks for your time. Paul

RE: Frig not getting cold

You should not "hear" anything on gas or electric. Sounds like a problem with the cooling unit. I sure hope not for your sake. I don't agree with this, you better hear the burner running when you are on gas. If you don't, it isn't working, I've never seen a reefer that was running on gas that you couldn't hear. It will be quiet on electric however.

RE: pets

No you are not, we have none but were in a CG in Pahrump last weekend and there were 14 dogs within a 50 foot radius of our rig. Most of the animals were Cogs, too big to be a cat and too small to be a dog. (IMHO a "dog" weighs 50 LBS. and comes up to my knees:-)). One class C had 4 dogs and two adults in it! It was too hot for dogs outside so all were in the A/C. I can't imagine any animal is happy cooped up in a MH all day and only taken out in the evening for a walk. Although we've had dogs all our life, we chose not to have one when we went full time. Primarily, because we felt it wouldn't be fair to the dog or cat to be relegated to a life of living on the road and in a confined MH. This is just our opinion and judging by the number of animals on the road we are in the minority.

RE: Battery voltage

Gonzo, Check the voltage at the input to your 12V fuse panel, it should be the same as the reading at your battery. The 11.4V reading that fluctuates is just a "fluke" :B;) Paul

RE: Calif Hwy 395

Tiger, I've stayed at Tuttle and Goodale several times and they are great places. We're planning on staying at Crowley Lake for the first time next week and are just curious. Why do you prefer Tuttle and Goodale over Crowley? Is there something we should be aware of at Crowley? We have a 36' rig with toad and Crowley looks flat and easy to get into the sites. At Tuttle and Goodale the sites that accomodate our rig aren't too level. We will be heading north from Bishop to Crowley. Thanks for your time. Paul

RE: Pahrump, NV to Baker, CA

Once we hit I-15 we're heading west so the "Bloody Baker Grade" won't be an issue. We'll be going to Afton Canyon Campground. Thanks for the comments we're looking forward to the trip.
