RE: Diesel Fuel

Since going full time in Jul 2006,I have filled up in 39 states, just pull up to the pump that says diesel, pay and pump.I don't think that anything other than D2
ultra low sulphur can even be purchased at the regular island pumps.
BEWARE...I have come on pumps that are not green hose! It is rare though.
Being as we have been chasing warm weather,D#1 has not shown up at the pumps that I can remember.

RE: Would you recommend a 5th wheel for me?

"Backing a MH is easier since the rear of the unit is always visible in the mirrors."
I would not want to back our fith wheel without a spotter, and we have been on the road traveling for nearly 7 years.

RE: Your Mission Should You Choose to Accept It...

Hopefully, your parents will adjust to the fact that very little of what many RV salesmen say can be counted as truth.
Print out these pages for them, pointing out that the folks here on the forum have nothing to gain by giving their advice, while you parent have much to lose ($$$$$) be only taking the advice of someone who has everything to gain ($$$$)

RE: Fifth wheel investment

Check out the Hitchhikers,a gently used one will be a better buy that a lot of new SOBs on the market.
NuWa (Hitchhiker manufacturer) is no longer building new units but they are still doing an excellent job of supporting the units on the road and they
have some new unused models available it the factory. They also sell refurbished units and other brands.
I am a fan,see sig.

RE: Another question on residency

So I'm wondering how folks who have residency in SD and Full-Time pull that off? I'm guessing they aren't really spending 6 months out of the year there? I know for most states I've lived in that's where the cutoff begins.
As for selling the house, we don't stand to make $500K so we shouldn't have any capital gains taxes.
Alas, I just checked and the State income tax in AZ is effectively half of OR currently. Might just be a smarter idea to establish residency down there. I just need to check and see how much vehicle registration and such might cost.
You do not need to actually reside in SD. We spend a few days there every 5th year,to renew drivers licenses.( At this time,it has to be done in person every 5 years ) Our truck and trailer are registered there,we are registered to vote, and have a legal SD address
(My Dakota Address)truck is insured through a SD insurance agent.(Progressive)
My Dakota Address can help you take care of these things.
We get our mail though them also.
Vehicle registration is reasonable, though not as reasonable as OR,I don't know about AZ for that.
One thing to keep in mind,AZ has sales tax! Right at 10% and plus!
Income tax,again I don't know.
We winter in AZ,and travel the rest of the year.We do own rental property in CA,but they, and we, consider us as non residents
SD works for us,and has for the past 6 plus years of full time traveling.

RE: Ladder Mounted Flag Safe?

I don't know anyone that has an aluminum flagpole sticking up on a aluminum ladder 5 feet higher than their RV, next month, or next season I would expect you'll be posting asking about an electrical problem AFTER you've been struck by lightning. Do away with the lightning rod and flag, put your flag in a window and camp, not decorate.
I guess that some folks consider our flag as decoration.I can assure you that most folks do not!

RE: towing rpm

I use the T/H on take off when towing my 14K fiver. The truck seems to like the shift pattern better.Once up to speed, about 50 mph,I'll shift out of T/H,and stay in 4th till the rpm drops down to around 1700-1750.
I have found that everything just purrs along at close to 2000 rpm,I "think"
my MPG may be a little better holding close to 2000 rpm
My 04.5 Dodge CTD 4 speed 48RE tranny has the 4.10 rear end,and at 2K rpm in 4th it is right at 65mph

RE: To block or not to block...that is the question

The other thing I need to consider is cost. It is a 1992 and I can't see putting much into it. Is it that vital that I correct this nose up attitude?
The rig photo in my profile shows the level (or lack of level) better.
With your truck/trailer combo,I doubt if you will be making many long trips. If that is correct then I would not worry to much about nose high towing.I would keep an eye on the rear trailer tires for wear, due to more weight in the rear axle
Others may not agree.
The rig does not look all that much out of level in the photo.

RE: US 6 Ely, NV to Bishop,CA

395 Bishop to Reno,we have been told that it is a nice scenic drive.Being as we are in no hurry to get anywhere we thought a little detour would be nice.
We are on US 93 going north towards Ely NV (scenic bi-way) from Lake Meade area.
We are,for now, visiting the Cathedral Gorge SP near Panaca NV,after spending the winter in AZ.Just ambling about.Only need to be in Sacramento CA by May 10.
We thought about the other routes, and may yet change our minds (Depending on how much we decide to see and do in Ely)For now,the 395 route via Bishop is firmly written in jello.:) Ahhh...Life is Grand !
Thanks again for all the quick responsed and suggestions.

RE: Caulking Nightmare..Not happy

Sorry looking job.I would be talking to the owner of the shop. But I'm not sure that I would want them to attempt to "fix" it.
I guess that they figured that no one would see it up on the roof.

RE: Question about nu-way

I don't have anything to compare our '04 NuWa Hitchhiker Discover America,33 1/2
4 slide 5th wheel to,as it is the one and only RV we have ever had.
I can say that after over 6 years of full time use, with over 60,000 towing miles,We have no regrets on our decision to buy the unit.

RE: Getting into a 5th wheel

First of all,if your dad thinks that buying a fifth wheel is a waste of money,he probably should no buy one.
He may need some money management advice from you.
Your plan sounds good to me,though I think that the money up front is more than you need to spend.Nice trailers and trucks are available for a lot less than what you are thinking of spending.

RE: Toliet paper

Now for the all important Ann Landers questions, which way do you hang the roll? With the paper hanging in front or in the back? Ooops, look what we have started now... GPG
In the front unless you have a cat. :B
We were at a state park in AZ recently. There were two rolls of TP,
one hanging in front and the other hanging in back.I had a heck of a time deciding which one to use.The closest one? the largest roll?
It was sooo confusing!

RE: Sales?? How??

When we were shopping for a 5th wheel,I had a salesperson ask me how much
I was looking to "invest" after I managed to stp laughing,I had to explain to him that buying an RV was in no way an "investment".
Another bit of advice here.Never let the dealer have any idea that you, or spouse, just "love" the RV! I should always be yeah, its OK,but we can live without it.
