RE: Flipping Shackles

doing what you are suggesting would drastically change the geometry of the axles converting the camber that is built into the axle to make it tow better into toe in/out which would cause tire wear. there are legitimate reasons this has never been mentioned as an option.

RE: Balancing RV tires

balancing tires improves tire wear, helps with suspension wear, and improves milage. all proven benefits.

RE: Best SUV to pull a 19' Sportsman trailer

terrain would not be my first choice. i would think a burb or tahoe would be a good choice for you. have to agree with terryallen, deisel is not always the answer

RE: Lighting our new TT

you could try finding lower wattage bulbs for the fixtures as well. there is a bunch of different bulbs that will plug into most any 12 volt fixture.

RE: Our upgrade!

only thing with torsion axles is that they have to be level becouse there is no equalizer in the system. other than that they seem to work well. had a customer run that at full load for well over 100k miles. only problem was when they towed it off level due to swapping between their various trucks it would eat tires.

RE: How to enjoy packing for a trip

RE: Batteries ruptured, now what?

line the bottom of the tub with cardboard as it will soak up the acid and help nutralize it. that is what they have to do at the recycling places.

RE: 1997 Itasca Sunrise Engine Rebuild - Lost Oil Filter Adapter

i would not be supprised if your local auto parts store has a replacement part. or the race car part will work with the right adapters

RE: Adding chip for engine performance?

the bulletproof cooler is a copy of a ford design that did not work. I agree with vintage racer. just make sure you use the best latest ford parts, including filters. the rest dont measure up litterally. and fuel preasure is definatly a concern do not let it get low. there is also a kit to boost preasure available from ford.

RE: E15 may kill engines

Wow! big oil discovered that there is a problem with their competition. what idiot reporter would even report on that information without any type of unbiased inoformation.

RE: Leaving 5th wheel on jack stands

if you buy jack stands they will likely be in the 2 ton range or higher; therefore having higher capicity than the tires you are removing. i would put the stands under the plate that holds the spring to the axle. i usually jack under the equalizer and then put the stands under.

RE: Odometer jumped 10,000 miles for no reason on my Class C

mechanical ododmeter cannot simply change to milage that is stored so deep in the computer that it is nearly imposible to get to. that odometer works the same way as a cable driven one, just has a little motor to make it go instead of being cable driven off the trans. they are a very simple device. the motor drives the first number and when it get to a certain spot it "grabs" the next one and turns it a notch. whent the second one gets to the right spot it grabs the next one and so on and so on. something is broken in the odometer and letting it move incorrectly. You would have to send it out for repairs which would likely be $250-300 if you take it out. more than what the difference will make on your sale price. and yes it is illegal for you to "work" on it. I have seen them do lots of things, had a couple of chevy trucks that would go backwards while driving. simply inform buyer that there is some sort of malfunction and go on with life.

RE: Electrical problem after car wash

These days nearly everything is controled by a computer. Number one it works better. Number two it allows for many more convenience options. You can for lack of a better term "confuse" the computer at times. I have seen wierd things happen from jump starting, installing new battery, activating aftermarket equipment, and so on. You might have it looked over for signs of mice or other things the next time you get a real serivice done but I would try driving it for a while before having it looked at. Take good notes of anything tht happens out of the normal. Technician will need to know things like when, where, how long had you been driving, how fast were you going, towing, did you just come out of the car wash. Knowing these things can only save you money.

RE: towing a 5th wheel with a 3/4 ton......now I will duck!

small block can pull anything with the right gear and patience. I am sure you can pull it but you will likely be frustrated and worn out when you get there. That would be my bigest argument on the subject. we shyed away from the bigger trailer becouse I didnt feel i was willing to pull the weight. Truck is fine with the 9k of the couger hauler but the 13k of the bigger one was too much for me to live with even though I know that the truck would "tow" it.

RE: Tailer Brake Light issue

my guess would be that you have a stray wire strand where the wires attach to the plug.

RE: Advice for my big mess..

No your not the only one. Lots of people decide quickly that they were not on target with their decision. Have to agree with HeeHawHoney. The dealer is not showing the bank that you have $4k negative equity on the deal which may make it easier to get baught at better deal, also making you feel better. Wish we all had better news for you.

RE: How Much Oil is too much for Onan 5500 Gas

had a fleet of posthole diggers once about half dozen or so. some would run with the oil at the bottom of the safe zone some would not. one had to be at least to the full line. all honda motors. i would fill it to the full line and see. you would have to put way more than a little to much oil in it before it did more than burn a little.

RE: Solder or crimp connection: Which is best?

I beleive that both types will have problems with vibrations breaking the wire at the connection if not properly supported. As a tech for 20 years I have repaired way more crimp connector repairs than soldered ones. Crimping is easy. I solder then shrink making sure that the wire on either side of the connection is supported. I also feel that one of the biggest reasons for failure of any repair is corrosion where the wire is opened up.
