RE: Finding a well-built rig

The advice on identifying the 5er of your dreams that will be matched with the truck of your needs. Again the best built, and higher quality units are Lifestyle Leisure formerly Carriage, Excel, Mobile Suites and then New Horizon. When you look at these units look at the frame construction. They all have very good frames. Look at the interior and the material used and the fit an finish. Yes they all retail for over 100,000 grand but they sell for about 30% or more less on the retail end. If you built one you can get what you want and with New Horizon you start with a blank slate. One of the most expensive and least functional options is the paint. If you can live with a white coach you can save 8-10 grand depending on the brand. If you can go to a major RV show, Hershey Penn. in Sep. and Tampa Fla. in Jan. which is nicer then Hershey you will be able to compare all of the brands side by side. Yes and go to the factories and see how they are built and the material used. Cedar Creek which is what I own and the Montanas, Heartlands and others are all good units. But you need to compare them to the others. Good luck.

RE: Any 5th wheel hitch operate exactly like a semi 5th wheel?

Nothing made by man if fullproof. The best devices designed and built by man can malfunction either by design or in method of use. I have a B & W 3300 Companion and before I had a RBW. The B & W is easy to operate and almost fullproof again see above. I have a dually and very nice three step ladder. I open the arm and the jaws open, I then back up hit the pin and the jaws close around the pin. I then insert the brake cable in the pin and place the pin in the bar which is already in the locked position. When it comes time to unhitch. I pull the pin, block the 5ers wheels and raise the landing gear taking pressure off the hitch and pull on the locking bar disengaging it. As the pin rises the jaws open like magic and when they are open I pull the truck out. The nice thing about unhitching this way is there is no fuss, it works as advertised not like my old RBW.

RE: Stopped by the Ram dealer

I will throw my 2 cents in. I drive a 2012 Laramie, my previous Ram was a Laramie. I looked hard at Longhorns and actually tried to buy one but the deals were not to my liking. Yes the leather in the Longhorn is nice but the front seats in my Laramie are just as nice and that is the only place I sit. The dogs sit in the back. Got tons of options on it the truck is really loaded up. The difference is the leather interior package and some items which as standard and options on the Laramie. Besides I like my chrome bumpers and step bars. Nuff said enjoy what you drive, cause tomorrow you may be wearing wings.

RE: Electric brakes settings

I have a 2012 Ram Dually and I love the factory brake controller. I tow a 36' fifth wheel depending on the load maybe 12 to 13 K. I pack light. I am still playing with my EBC but somewhere in the 5 range works great. In conjunction with the exhaust brake and tow haul mode I am impressed. My first trip took me the Geogia/Tenn/Ala border and some really nice hills in them Smokies. It worked as advertised and has continued on to impress on all my other trips. The setting you will use will depends on your trailer and the condition of those brakes, weight etc. As you use it you may adjust the settings as you get more comfortable with it. Good luck

RE: Canadians buying RV lots in Florida

I am resident of Fla. and I live a nice home which will be for sale when the market stabilizes a little more. Translate to not cheap. Anyway we have looked at RV lots aka, condo lots, co-op lots and depending on HOA fees this appears to be the way to go. You can be fulltime, enjoy Fla. in the winter and travel when the weather is nice. For those of you talking about demolition you had better checkout the permits and Enviro requirements and bring your checkbook. Septic systems are very expensive to install in Fla. Now if you want to go find a lot out in the weeds in Central Fla. maybe you could get buy a little cheaper. If you want to enjoy the Fla. amenties, sun, surf, golf etc., it will cost you whatever you do. Also be careful when looking a lot of the counties, cities are requiring upgrades to the exsisting sewer, septic and fresh water systems. Big bucks. If you check it out you will be fine.

RE: When the Snowbirds are Gone

I lived in that Resort for the better part of three winters and into the summer the third year. It is a large park with over 1500 spots and lots to do in "season". The spot I had was 40ft. wide so not to shabby by park standards. If you want to know about Fla. RVing
try one of our beautiful state parks.

RE: 5th Wheel Hitches

First question is how much money do have to spend. The air hitches are nice and worth the money but they are expensive. As far as the other hitches my vote is for B & W. American made in Kansas, great company with great support.

RE: 2013 Ram 5th wheel hitch

Does the 2013 have the pucks in the bed like the Ford trucks? I haven't seen the new Ram set up yet so I don't know. I have a 2012 Ram 3500 and I installed the Reese undermounts and put in a B & W 3300 which fits those undermounts and not the turnover ball. The one have is 20,000/5000lbs and of course they are USA made. Before you buy a hitch give B & W a call and find out if they have designed locks for the new Dodge mounts. You will not be disappointed.

RE: 2012 dodge 3500 dually

I own a 2012 Ram CC 6.7 CTD 6spd Max Tow 4:10 dually. Had previous a 5.9 CTD 3:73 CC short bed. The new truck about 1 mpg less. The new truck more power, comfort and just fun to drive. I use truck as a daily driver. The 4:10 is awesome when the nose of th truck is pointing up and you are climbing. I didn't buy the truck for economy, I bought it to pull a heavy load. Either way these trucks use fuel. Enjoy

RE: I hate love bugs!!

I use vehicle soap and a microfiber rag on the paint and chrome. Thing is to get them early. On the windsheild I use one of those nylon web covered sponges and window cleaner. A little muscle and they are gone. Hate those things also.

RE: Hand Guns

Wolf3gang I see you are from Ill. Are you going to maintain your Ill res. when you fulltime? The reason I ask is because Ill does not yet have a concealed carry law although it was mandated by the courts. I am a former Ill. resident so I keep up on these things just for fun. If you chose to arm yourself and your wife the advice to be trained is right on the money. Find someone who will give you a good through hand gun course, not just a 2 hour demo. The type of firearm you purchase will also be influenced on your physical abilities.
You would be wise to go to the range at lease a couple of time a year to retain your abillity to handle whatever it is you decide to carry. Many of us think going to the range is fun others don't. Remember that if the time ever comes to use your weapon your action will depend upon your training with that weapon. There will not be any time to think about trigger pull, is there one in the pipe etc. The decision to own and or carry is one that you need to think out. Some feel safe without a firearm others feel safe with a firearm. Remember as said before when seconds count the police are only minutes away. The most accurate shooter in typical defense type event is the average person who practiced the correct techniques of operationg the weapon. Not the top marksman who can light matches at 100 yrds. Whatever you have to ask yourself if you or your wife has the ability to use that weapon if that time arises. A lot to think about good luck.

They are not that heavy. I had my wife put two of the bolts in and put nuts on them then I handled the rest. I took it out the same way with my wife's help. Not a big job.
