RE: stable lift installation- centering question

I do not have install directions the previous owner did not have them as the lift came on a dead camper he purchased. I don't want to over think this, as you point out the SL spreads out the load. I'll get it centered on the camper as best I can and also see where the cross over pipes are in relationship to the bottom of the truck. I've been on SL's website many times so I have a decent idea how it works/mounts. But it never hurts to get additional opinions. Thanks

stable lift installation- centering question

I have a 1968 Avion C11 that has the three lift jacks from the factory. There is one lift jack on the passenger side and two on the drivers. Can I assume that Avion centered the one jack on the passenger side for weight balance ? It's not as critical with the Stable Lift I don't believe but thought I would ask. I purchased a used stable lift that I'll be installing this summer and I'm planning ahead for where it has to be on the camper AND where I want it on the truck. Ideally I can mount this so I can have access for example to the fuel filler on the truck. I can call stable lift but thought I would start here. Thanks

shocks for one ton dually

I have a 2001 GMC one ton diesel dually extended cab 4 x 4 with 139,000 miles. I'm the second owner and have no idea if these have ever been replaced but I figure to be safe I will. I know the three main players are Rancho, Bilstein and KYB. Truck is a daily driver and will be carrying a 1968 Avion C11 when I complete the restoration plus will be pulling a 13 ' Boston Whaler ( light ) or a aluminum car trailer with car. I can't see myself crawling under the truck to make routine shock absorber adjustments nor do I want to add the complexity of in cab adjustment. So based on all the above any recommendations ? And is anyone running good sale prices at the moment ? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

RE: Finished a Honda 2000 Storage/Run Box

Very nice setup have you run this for extended period of time in the heat ? I want to make something similar for my Honda EU3000 but my concern is adequate cooling air flow.

satellite dish vs. antenna

I'm a long ways away from needing either as I have a total restoration to perform on the 1968 Avion C11.But it doesn't hurt to plan ahead. The camper will primarily be used for my wife and I to camp in but there will be times that I use the camper solo for race events. Road courses like Sebring and Road Atlanta as an example. If the weather is nasty or just want to get out of the sun for an hour or two it would be nice to watch on TV to not lose touch with what's going on. So for that scenario would you go with an antenna or satellite dish ? It seems like antenna technology has come a long ways but my concern is most sports car races are not televised on the major networks, usually either Speed or now NBS Sports so not sure an antenna would work. I plan on installing solar panels on the roof also so I'm not going to have a lot of room up there, also considering a dish on a tripod. There has to be other race car fans out there so what are you using and why ? Thanks in advance.

RE: Avion camper rebuilds - dozens of photos

Another question for the fellow Avioners would a 1968 C11 have come from the factory with a DC/AC converter ? When I purchased mine it had one just laying on the floor ( clearly not hooked up ). I have looked around some and can't see an obvious spot where this may have been installed ? I don't believe I am going to use it ( very old ) and will probably upgrade to something more modern but would like to figure out the wiring if it was originally factory installed. Any help is appreciated.

RE: Small Microwave

Can you remove the " feet " on the microwave ovens to gain some height ? Might gain 1/2 " or more.

RE: Front Hitch Generator Mount / House

My thoughts are a half box half cage. The half box would be towards the front to protect the generator from the elements when driving. A full top also to protect from the elements. But the rest of the sides/back/bottom would be steel mesh for air flow. The top would hinge open to allow fueling. In a perfect world one side of the box/cage would also open so you could have a portable ramp to roll the 100+ lb. generator into place. My welding skills aren't too bad with metal but it would be great to fab up something in aluminum to save weight and not worry about corrosion.

RE: Front Hitch Generator Mount / House

I also am going to build a front rack for my Honda 3000 generator. I like the idea of two mounting points vs. one and will probably fab up something using the front tow hook mounts on my 2001 GMC dually. For those of you using a " box " vs. a " cage " how do you know when you have enough cooling slots/openings ? My concern is summer temp's in the 90's and humid sure don't want to burn up a $$$ generator. A box is more secure and quiet but a cage much better for air flow. Not knocking anyone's design just curious about real world results in high temp's.

RE: What is best tire size for a 2007 GMC Dually?

I have a 2001 GMC 4X4 dually and need tires also. I plan to stay with the original size of 215/85 x 16.

what speed do you maintain on the highway ?

This is just a general question not really geared towards MPG or anything else, but generally what speed do you maintain on the highway with the truck camper ? And does that change if/when you are also towing ?

RE: Avion camper rebuilds - dozens of photos

I noticed you have " side windows " in your cabover are those factory or did you add them ? My C11 only has windows on the front. Nice work keep us posted on progress.

RE: Avion camper rebuilds - dozens of photos

I have a question regarding batteries for my 1968 C11. Not wet cell vs. AGM but how many batteries did these come with from the factory ? And what size were they ? When I got my camper it did not have batteries in it but it looks like it is wired for one/two in the step to the overhead. The reason I say one/two is I have no way of knowing if some of the current wiring in that area may be for a charger/converter. The camper came with an ancient charger/inverter but it was just loose in the camper I really don't know if it was ever installed. I plan on going more modern so I'm not going to use it. But anyway how many batteries were originally installed ? This battery compartment is vented. Pics would be helpful. Thanks

RE: scored a used stable lift today

I remeasured today and it looks like 102 " inside to inside on the ground hoops. I took one of them and layed it on top of my pickup bed on the rails, looks like I'll have about 2 1/2 - 3 " of clearance on each side which should be perfect.

RE: Flex able hose for RV's

What is it about this hose that makes it not for drinking water ? If you have a charcoal water filter would it be OK then ? I do like the concept.

RE: Avion camper rebuilds - dozens of photos

67avion that is well said. I too feel like I am carrying on the craftmanship of the era, a time when things were built to last. I seriously doubt any of the modern truck campers will be around in 30-40 years they just are not designed/assembled to do so. I realize we are a small minority in our mindset but I'm OK with that. It's good to have a mix of old vs. new it keeps the sport/hobby moving forward. There is no right vs. wrong, everyone has their own opinion of what they need to camp in.
