RE: GPS

We have the Garmin 465T and really like it. Just remember that no GPS is perfect. As previously mentioned you enter, height, weight of axles, width, etc. There is a dramatic difference if you calculate to a POI in truck mode or car mode. The Bluetooth function works very well. I am now using that as I did not want to have that silly dongle in my ear. If you have a President's Club card from Camping World you can get 10% off of the 465T.

RE: Direct TV HD equipment

Kuma, We have the DirecTV Slimline SL3-SWM with the builtin multiswitch. Only one cable to the trailer. It has 8 feeds in it from the SWM. Inside one cable to the HDDVR through a power passing splitter. You also have to have a power inserter/supply which plugs into 110 volt and sends voltage to the SWM to power it. Then you can send another cable to your bedroom receiver. Of course this onlyworks this easy if you have a cable from the living room entertainment center as we have but if you do that is all you do and you can then watch 2 different channels on the 2 TV's. It's very simple to get a signal. The main thing is have your tripod mast plumb. We got to Gulf Shores this afternoon and when I got the tripod set up I hooked up the dish, set the coordinates that I had gotten from dishpointer and aimed it in the direction I thought would be pretty close. Went inside the trailer, turned on the TV and receiver and had a 98 signal on 101 sat, 97 on 99 sat, and 98 on 103 sat. That was pretty lucky, it usually takes me a few minutes to get a signal. This was the first time that happened since we switch to HD in April.

RE: Convert to HDTV & Home Theater

You absolutely don't need 7.1 in an RV. When we sold our house we moved our Bose Lifestyle 38 to our trailer and it is more than enough. The only problem is this year our network shows have all the music and background sound so loud you have to really crank up the volume to understand the vocal voices.

RE: Another Garmin ?

Yes, it is a great unit. I got mine on August 3rd at Camping World with 10% off as a Presidents club member. We really like it with all the notices, truck settings, and dimensions. Lots of warnings and will not route you down little roads/streets when in truck mode.

RE: Dish Alignment Equipment

We are fulltime and have DirecTV and use the Slimline SL3-SWM dish and use the following site to get all our settings.
www.dishpointer.com
Very easy site to use and the settings are accurate. I don't use a meter as we are usually close enough to the rear of the trailer with the dish I can just look at the TV screen through the back window. If I can't we use 2 FRS radios and my wife calls out the numbers. The absolute main thing to do is make sure your tripod mast is very level. I usually have 80's and 90's within 5 minutes.

RE: Convert to HDTV & Home Theater

Bama5150, you do not have the Slimline with the builtin SWM if it has 4 leads. The Slimline SL3-SWM only has 1 lead which carries 8 signals through it. That is what you want. With the 1 you have you only have 4 signals going to your RV.

RE: Convert to HDTV & Home Theater

If you are going to HDTV get the Slimline 3 dish with the builtin multiswitch and you only have to run one cable to your trailer. You do have to buy a power inserter/supply for the SWM on the dish. Then inside you can put a power passing splitter and send a feed to the bedroom TV. I am assuming you are getting new receivers which are MPEG4 and will select a signal that is available from this dish as there are 8 signals on the ly need to hook one cabone cable into the trailer. If you have a DVR you only have to hook one cable to it and it will select 2 signals for the DVR so you can watch one channel and record another channel. WE have this setup for over 6 months now and it works great.

RE: Any comments on the new------------------

The price is $499.95 or so. If you belong to the Camping World Presidents Club you can get 10% off. I got mine the first week of August in Bowling Green. Call and check first to make sure thy are in stock. A lot of the truck stops such as Pilot, Loves, and Flying J carry them also. We really like ours and the Bluetooth on it works great.

RE: MS Streets & Trips or Delorme Street Atlas

CoolJourney, If you can save your route in Street in a GPX format you can save it directly to your Garmin GPX folder. Just hook it up with the USB cable and see what drive letter it is.

RE: MS Streets & Trips or Delorme Street Atlas

Streets & Trips is by far the easiest to use. Also, the 2010 version lets you save your route straight to your Garmin GPS into the GPX folder. One stop shopping to get you reoute created in S&T to your Garmin. I have had all 3 and much prefer S&T for ease and quickness. You can download a trial version and use it free for 60 days from Microsoft. You better have a fast Internet connection since it is a 1.3 Gig download. It took me a little under 2 hours to download it.

RE: Streets & Trips 2010 does not send route to GPS

Gary, You are correct, I discovered that last night and it works perfectly. Just hook up the Garmin with the USB cable and export the route directly to the Garmin.

RE: Streets & Trips 2010 does not send route to GPS

The trial version is fully functional. When you buy S&T you just enter the Key Code when you start the trial version and it will register it and remove the 60 day limit.
Also, it should send routes to any Garmin that handles routes. The 465T can store 15 routes.
You can, however, export as a GPX file so that is a way to get your route to your Garmin.

Streets & Trips 2010 does not send route to GPS

I downloaded the trial version and then thought I was sending a route to my Garmin 465T but it only sent the waypoints/favorites. I was sending via the USB cable and yes, I did select the second option of sending the route. So, looks like I will continue to use GPSBabel since it works correctly and sends the route. So just another instance of MS saying they have something when they don't.

RE: BEST GPS FOR RV

GPSBabel works great. As I understand with S&T 2010 you have to be connected to the Internet to move routes to your Garmin since S&T doesn't really do it but something else does it on the Internet.

RE: Planning a trip with gps?

Mapquest works great if you have a Garmin and the Garmin Communicator program installed. You can create your route and then send it to the Garmin. You can drag and drop the route any where you want it to go. Just make sure to rightclick on the red dots on your route and then click on Create a Stop and this will make the Garmin route it the way you want it. If you just put a start and end the Garmin may route it different than you want. The link below is Mapquest Help.
