RE: Walls of Jericho

If I remember correctly there is very little parking area at the main trail head that would accomodate a TT. Down the road a little piece is a parking area for truck with horse trailers. That would be my guess as to the best location. I can tell you that this ares gets pretty muddy and we have had tons of rain over the past month or so. Our Scout troop was there in May and several of the dad's trucks got stuck.
Check this map out.

RE: Sad Story

Sorry to hear of your personal issues as well as the issue with the TT. Hope you get to feeling better quickly and have a 100% recovery.
Not sure if you want to take the hit but keep the check and then sale as is at a reduced price so you can purchase the new RV you are thinking of. Someone with the skills may be able to assess the wiring issue and be willing to puchase and then repair themselves if the price is right.

RE: Tire sidewall cracking - need opinion

I too see the 1801 meaning they were manufactured the 18th week of 2001. If that is the case they are in need of replacement. They can deteriorate quickly and better be safe than sorry. Five to seven years is normal life expectancy so you have outlive that.
Be safe and replace before your trip.

RE: Do You Talk To Your GPS?

Mine is affectionately called Greta Garmin. My wife constantly talks to Greta telling her to shut up. Most of the time the volume is turned off as DW finds it very annoying. If Greta could talk other they the preloaded phrases she would likely be saying turn around stupid you missed the turn. My routes often do not coincide with the direction she wants me to go, so you can seeh it constantly showing read arrows close to the next exit turnng around to go back in the direction we just came from.

RE: Things to do in Pigeon Forge, TN

Second Cades Cove, Clingman's Dome is a nice wide paved path (road) with great view but I will tell you it is pretty steep. We like to picnic at the Chimneys and play around on the rock and in the creek. Metcalf Bottoms is another nice picnic area with creek. Walk through downtown Gatlinburg, there is ususally a craft show at the Gburg civic center during Octoberfest.
I highly recommend investing in a kid carrier backpack. Mine is Kelty and is very comfortable and will carry good size kid. Has pockets for water bottles, extra diapers etc..

RE: Eternabond question

Not sure that it was silicone know that the Eternabond bandaid did not stick, the caulk is stuck very hard and I am concerned that I have an even bigger issue on my hands. Thanks Gale for your comments. Looks like Sept will be moving out of here on a dry note with more than 2/3's of the month being rain. Nice cooler temps and humidity here too but more rain forecast for Friday.

RE: Stabilizer jacks, up or down during storage?

It is my understanding that the loss of air in the tires will put excessive weight in the frame and stabliziers resulting in them twisting and bending.

RE: Eternabond question

Okay, can I jump on this thread too with a similar question?
My son and I spent the better part of the day Saturday scraping off the old caulking. My attempt to previous put a bandaid of Eternabond over the caulk provide the caulk was silicone and of course we know it did not adhere. Funny how that stuff sticks to everything else in the world.
Here is my question. We have scrapped, scrubbed with laquer thinner and acetone using plastic bissle brushes as well as Scotch Bright scubby things. We still have a thin layer of caulk on the roof that will not come off. What am I to do to get the Eternabond to adhere.
Will the Eternabond primer assist in any way with this?
Should I run a layer of latex caulk against the roof and metal seam trim?
Double the Eternabond to provide a wider coverage area? I have 4 inch wide tape.
I was awake most of Sat night thinking about this and just am about to come ungluded (unlike Eternabond) on what I need to do to get this sealed.
Thanks for the assistance.

RE: Winterizing

Oh man, I don't even want to think about winterizing yet. Several more trips to go before I have to do that.
If you do not a winterizing kit already installed, I would highly recommend purchasing one. Certainly makes winterizing simple and very quick. Takes me about five minutes with my wife helping open and close the varius faucets.

RE: New K-Z 324BHS

Congrats on your new trailer and first sleep over. Glad everything is working A-Okay. I am very intersted in seeking this model in person. Two dealers in Al, both about 100 miles from home. Have been to one and they had none in stock and did not know if they were getting more. Have very little new stock on the lot period. The second dealer is in a college town and I refuse to go there on game weekend which every game so far has been at home. I checked the website yesterday and the only one they have had in stock is now gone.
Looking forward to hearing more from you on your first real camping trip and how the unit handled, your likes and dislikes etc...

RE: Any recomendation on trailer lenght

Way too long for the wheelbase of the Jeep. This could/would likely result in sway issues for you - otherwise known as the tail wagging the dog.
Check out this site for information on towing weights and lenghts. You need to be thinking short, much shorter. No way I would tow tht long of trailer with a Jeep Cherokee.

RE: Rain Rain Go Away

Gonna head over this afternoon with tarp. Going to take the Excursion too where I can plug her up and raise the front end of the trailer some more. Sits pretty level right now. Side to side she is slanted toward the curbside which is the side of the leak. Will leave that alone as I would rather force water towards the back of the TT and allow it to roll on off than it pool on top of the roof.
Was originally thinking about covering only the front so as to not restrict air flow though the Maxx Aire Vents and I already had a tarp large enough to cover that portion. Guess I need to go purchase a larger tarp to cover the entire trailer.
Dealer wants $95 an hour and estimates 10 hours to remove and replace all the caulk. WOW!!! Will stick with the original plan of my doing it and using Eternabond in lieu of caulk.
Need some sunshine.
Not sure what the total has been but well into the double digits. Cannot tell you how many times out rain gauge has been emptied.

Rain Rain Go Away

Rain has been no stop for over a week. Had plans on working on the roof this weekend but was not to be. Have put a bandaid on the front seam but appears not got an good enough as there is now squishy place inside closet in master bedroom. No let up in rain the rest of the week either. No place to take it to get it out of the rain for protection or addition repair work.
What a Bummer!
Keeping fingers crossed it does not get any worse.

RE: TopSail in June 10!

You have to make reservations at Topsail as far out as possilbe, particularly during the summer months. It has gotten so popular, probably due to all the rave reviews here, that it fills up quickly. I have two separate weeks already on the books for next summer, July and August.
Definitely a member of the Topsail Cult!

RE: Suggestions for best park in Gatlinburg/ Pigeon Forge Area

Personally we prefer the Townsend area to get out of the traffic and congestion of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Great Smoky KOA is our favorite. We also like the Cosby area and Great Smokey Mtn Jellystone.

RE: Fond memories of a parts supplier

I loved Campers Choice. I hated it when they were bought out by Camping World. Prices were better than Camping World's member price and without the cost of membership. They were great in terms of delivery too.
