RE: How far can you drive on a flat?

Summer of 2007 I was headed up I-59 to Chattanooga and blew the right rear on the 5ver in a construction zone no less. No shoulder - one lane for a while then opened up to two -- those behind me couldn't wait for that 2nd lane - wow.
there was no exit for about 10 miles -- we went along at 10mph -- seems fast when you are on three tires - waiting for another to go. Took forever - but we pulled off finnaly and I changed to the spare. the tire was ripped to shreads - click here to view photo

RE: Internet on the road

Verizon has two packages - about $35/mo for 250mb and $59/mo for 5 gig and the application that runs the aircard tells you how much you have used. works pretty good
The post from McGoo -- to Amazon -- cool device but it also has two packages 1gig/month and 5 gig/month

RE: Air card speeds

A good way to test speed is to use an internet speed test - such as http://speedtest.net/
use the suggested test server -- but watch not to click on the advertisements -- click instead on the suggested server !
I'm on landline broadband and get about 6.2 mb/sec and 1 mb/sec upload

RE: Camera Recomedations

Everyone has preferences, including me. So it's always interesting to see what people are buying and posting -- here is a link to flickr.com -- they track what cameras post the most pic -- and at a rate of about 8,000 pictures posted per minute that a lot ! http://www.flickr.com/cameras/
I'm back to point and shoot as these cameras have changed a lot in recent years. I prefer Panasonic

RE: Opinions wanted - 2002 Chevy CrewCab 2500HD w/ 150000+ miles

I would agree with the posts that advise for the truck with 150K miles. My rational would be based on the price as well as the condition. Be ready to have something fixed -- be willing to spend x amount per year instead of the new vehicle payment. I'm sure you will win. It is hard to tell what a vehicle has been thru by looking and listening - even to the owner, as they may be only one of many. I always do Carfax - and then take it with a grain of salt as everything isn't always reported.
I have 420K miles on my 2500HD diesel GMC and have done some work to it, but I the longer I have it the more I trust it.

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

How many miles will these new diesel go? GM=?, Cummins=?, Ford=? Looking into a GMC 2500HD.
Regards, Hamshog
The engines will go forever but how about everything else?
Just to put my 2cents in - my GMC 2500HD Diesel has 420,000 and I just rebuilt the front end, meaning inner/outer tie rods, Pitman arm, and Idler arm.
I get 20 mpg on the flat not towing and 13-14 towing 9,500 lbs. I don't even know the weight it back there going thru the smokies. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

RE: King Pin Stabilizer

I have a King pin stablizer and haven't used it in years. Couldn't tell the difference. This past weekend I installed the telescoping tube type type that bolt to the current jacking system - front and back. 6 total. the instructions were not so good -- 1st one took 1/2 hour to figure out then about 15min each to bolt to the existing pad and drive screw to the frame.
I was amazed at how solid the inside was -- I even made sure the back scissor jacks were near extended all the way. Jumping and walking stiffly inside - no movement. Well worth the $225 I spent. They are now permentantly attached and retract with the existing gear.
