RE: Beavers Bend, OK (Question)

Our first visit after years of being told to go visit. Well, we did and we found it to be all they exclaimed. We enjoyed visiting each place around this park. Get-a-way Weekend, or family vacation, you will enjoy all there is to do. Dont forget to go through the museum and read about years of yesterday and the community interaction with one another. We will visit again. Reasonable rates. Friendly Staff.

Walking boardwalks through marsh saw lots of jellyfish and an alligator! Nature center has some animals up close and beach is calm and untouched.

RE: Apple Fritters

Notes Here:
1) You will need to add more milk to get the cake-like batter consistency
2) probably don’t need the full amount of apples. I used a chopper to cut up one apple and that seemed plenty. Adjust yours to taste.
3) I used baking soda. After the fact I read some more comments and there were several that recommended baking powder rather than soda. While ours tasted fine with the 1 tsp soda, next time I’ll try the powder to see if it does anything with the consistency.
4) the batter expands as it cooks so drop a teaspoon and that will yield roughly the golf ball size. I dropped a golf ball size of batter first time around and they ended up like small pancakes and they were not cooked all the way through. When I went to the smaller size, they were cooked all the way through. Some other time I may actually thin them out just a bit more and make them into pancakes.
5) do not make these if you are home alone. You will eat way too many.

RE: Kid friendly activity or camping ideas 3-4 hrs around DC?

Hershey Park,PA. I took my kids here for a mini break and it was awesome!!! It was crazy expensive though. Even with coupons it was pricey. Yet, this was a trip that will be forever remembered. The spa even has chocolate facials! How cool is that??? Gabriel had a great time. So did my wife and I. Lex on the other hand was only concerned with the jumbo hershey kiss in her hand. Roller coasters were pretty fun, though not as amazing as we expected. The best part is that it wasnt very crowded at all. Very few lines.

RE: Suggestions for summer time family camping...

We absolutely love Mount Nebo State Park! The campground is very nice, and comes with an awesome view. They also have a swimming pool that you can use for a small fee, well worth it. They have hiking and biking trails and playgrounds as well. We will always stay at Nebo, at least once a year.

RE: Ft Fisher

Kure Beach is a small coastal town on the coast of NC. Just up the road is Carolina Beach and the famous boardwalk. Fort Fisher is located in Kure Beach, NC. My children loved the tour walk and reading about the rich history. The ferry is located within walking distance and at the end of HWY 421, you will find wind surfers and sailing. Beautiful.

RE: Wildlife Woods - Charlotte-Lake Norman

Wildlife Woods Campground is the great place for camping. While many may complain about the rules, my family was grateful for restrictions in place by the management to preserve a safe area in which to stay. Friendly campers, great lake access for boating and very pleasant and accommodating staff....especially Georgia. We will return!

RE: Recommendations for north Georgia

Dillard. This is a very small campground, but don't let that stop you from camping here. The staff are very friendly. There are 2 small very stocked ponds for trout fishing - any child will be able to catch multiple fish. A small stream flows alongside the property that you can stand in at one end. A bigger lake provides a more challenging fishing experience and there is a paddle boat available. The area is super quiet (we were the only ones there). The campground itself is actually just in NC, but you get there from the major highway in GA. The only downside (if there has to be one) is that the sites are not the easiest to access. However, we were able to do just fine given that it was our first time ever camping. If you're looking for a cheap place to stay with a relaxing, friendly atmosphere give this place a try. You won't be disappointed. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

RE: Yellowstone in September

We went in 2009 and stayed at Grizzly. It is a very nice park, clean and at that time very well ran. West Yellowstone is nice and it is 1/2 mile from the west entrance to the park. Wolf and Bear sanctuary in West Yellowstone is also worth a visit.
Attention: Busy at that time. You should better go later to aviod crowding. Have a great trip.:C
