RE: Travel Trailer Bathroom door lockset

My bathroom door handle broke and I replaced it with one from Lowe's or Home Depot. I did have to chisel a bit and I have had to adjust things once or twice.

RE: Stupid question about power

Just bought my first motorhome a few days ago. Its a 1973 dodge sportsman - western commander. On the side it reads "this connection is for 110-125 volt ac service/ 60 cycle service do not connect to higher voltage" Im goin to be living in this motorhome but I know little about them and less about electricity. It seems most sites offer electrical hookups at 20, 30, or 50 amps. I dont know which of these if any I could plug my mh into..can anyone help? Volts are different from Amps (Watts = Volts x Amps). "60 cycle" is 60 Hz or 60 cycles/second and that is typical. If the plug on your camper looks like it will go in to a normal outlet, it is 20 A. The two pop-ups I had plugged in to standard outlets. If it doesn't, it is 30 A. Unless your electrical system has been re-done, it will not be 50 A in a 1973 camper.

RE: Backing up

I would rather back up my 23' boat than my 8' utility trailer.

RE: Rough start to the season!

Glad it worked out...it just means you get to do another project at home! I keep my boat in a shed on the low (wet) part of my property. I have to time pulling it out in the spring and putting it back in the fall around the rain we have had. I keep a few pieces of marine plywood around to throw over wet spots if need be.

RE: Hybrid Seasonal Tips/Tricks?

I did seasonal camping in a pop-up for years! We left the camper setup and just made sure the mattresses and other stuff was away from the canvas. We upgraded to a travel trailer and have upgraded again to a park trailer. We have known of two other pop-up seasonals, too. The bottom line is, you get to camp! Have fun!

RE: cig smell removal how

Wash all windows and window frames twice. Open the windows. Wash the walls and every surface twice. Take anything fabric out and run it through the washer and dryer twice. Close the windows and re-enter in a couple of hours to check the smell. Fabreze has a reasonably effective spray for cigarette smells. Spray this around as needed. Then, rent an ozone machine if the smell is still there. If that doesn't work, leave a raw pork roast in the unit for a couple days.

RE: Awning question what is too much wind

We have a seasonal site and open our awning in March and close it in November. In between, we tilt it and use a single bungee hooked to one of two hooks I have installed on the deck - a "windy weather" position and a "we're leaving for the week" position. Before we started doing the bungees, we did lose an awning arm (awning flipped up on the roof) as we just tilted it for rain before we left and the awning fabric in an unexpected overnight rainstorm while we were there (the awning was fully deployed, no tilt). We're in our 7th year with this camper and 5th or 6th year with no (knock on wood) awning issues.

RE: Damage from pressure washing roof?

I have pressure washed my roof for the past few years and have had no problems. I use a low pressure washer (1500 psi). I am upgrading pressure washers this season (I failed to winterize my old one and it did not survive the winter) and will have to see how that goes.

RE: Seasonal Campsite expectations

I lease two adjacent lots at a seasonal campground. It's great being able to offer friends and family our "guest quarters." We have a deck on both sites - one we built and one we bought from another camper. We are responsible for all upgrades and have added a gazebo, storage sheds, flower beds, gravel, etc. We love our spot and camp over 80 nights a year and have guests with us 30 or so nights a year. Some folks buy cinderblocks and fashion steps or build something to make it easier to get in and out of the camper. There are lots of ways to make your campsite more comfortable.

RE: Lodge Combo

I have two of them - I use them for pineapple upside down cake among other DO wonders. The lid makes it very easy to flip the cake.

RE: Camping with friends- Meals

When my parents camp with us, Dad cooks breakfast and I do everything else. When other folks camp with us, it is usually breakfast "on your own" and I do dinner. We usually eat lunch out on the lake.

RE: 1992 Tioga Montara - your thoughts?

I used to own a 1992 Tioga Montara Special 27' - check the rear wall in the pass through storage. Check the front bunk - the floor of it on the inside as wel as the exterior seams. Also, why does it need new beds? Is it really just mattresses it needs? Why was it painted on the inside? Why is the flooring new?

RE: Question about portable waste containers

I have owned Barker and Thetford ones - I prefer Barker as it vents better and allows your holding tank to drain better.

RE: Campfires: Love them or hate them?

We really enjoy campfires. I like to burn them hot and not so smoky and I enjoy splitting wood. We also have a Little Red Campfire for those nights we don't want the smell or can burn a wood fire - http://www.amazon.com/Camco-58031-Little-Campfire-Propane/dp/B000O51VJ0

RE: New to Seasonal Site.

I lease two seasonal sites in a campground. My parents, other family, and friends stay in the Puma and we stay in the Gulf Stream. Find out what the park rules are and do what you can within the rules to make yourselves comfortable and get the most out of the season. Also, get to know the campground caretaker/owner and let them know what you are looking for - we were able to get a great deal on a deck for the Puma because we had put the caretaker on notice we were looking for one.

RE: Issues running eletronics off of a Yamaha EF generator?

I have a single Honda EU2000i and use it to power everything in a trailer during the winter. In the summer, I don't use it but know it will run everything except the compressor on the AC. I charge laptops, cell phones, and iPads with it all of the time and it runs my LCD TV just fine.

RE: Android Tablets?

This has been a great thread! We are about to purchase a variety of iPads, iPad Minis, Galaxy 7" and Galaxy 10" devices in my school district - the big idea is that we should give kids access to a tool chest so they can learn to make technology choices based on the task. There won't be enough of anything for everybody to have one - that's not the point. I hope we allow kids to take them home when needed - our policy allows for this. Thoughts? Questions?
