RE: blow out your lines with air and use pink stuff?

For my toyhauler the pink stuff only takes 5 minutes and 1 gallon. Kinda a no brainer since air would take longer. I open the low-point drains on the ride home so when I do winterize the sysytem is basically empty.
I have a 1984 Chateau in the mountains of WV and it takes 2 gallons and 15 minutes. Air will not work on it since the lines have some low points inside that hold water. I tried air but found water still in the lines when I checked it.

RE: Towing MPG

shum02 -- I did not mean to imply that I could make it to Cedar Point in 5 hours. My intent was to simply say that an hour of riding savings is worth $25 to me. I think my Hemi could pull my Toyhauler at 108mph but the fuel economy would be below 2mpg.... LOL

I'll pay $25 an hour to get the drive over sooner. The drive from my house to Cedar Point is 9 hours and I would gladly pay $100 to make it 5 hours...

RE: Getting Un-Stuck

In November 2007 I purchased a used Chateau 28' TT to take to WV for an ATV Camp. I had been up there one time before but that was following some friends. I towed the TT up there with just my 9 yr old daughter and myself. My first time pulling a TT.
We had a great ride up Hwy 77 through Fancy Gap and into WV. Things went great until I realized I had somehow missed a turn aprox 10 miles from camp. So I pull into a gas station and ask directions. They put me on a one lane gravel road and said it's fine the road is plenty clear. I was leary since there was snow on each side of the road but went ahead. The road was steep but OK until approx 6 miles in I had to make a very tight steep switchback turn. Anyway after 1 hour on that turn I will never trust direction or intentionally take an unknown narrow gravel road. That switchback took basically hanging the TT off the mountain (wheel were backed to edge) and locking my truck in 4wd Low while pulling the TT frame over a rock in the curve.
I was stupid by trying that road. I did learn alot and still laugh with my daughter about it. Never again...

RE: Oct Truck Sales

I would bet that 1/2 ton sales are at least 70% of the full size truck market. Sit at any street corner in "normal america" (not at a cattle auction or RV park) and tally 100 trucks that go by. Most will be 1/2 ton. The prices of 1/2 ton are better, the ride is better, they have nicer amenities (for the price or as normally ordered by dealers) and better fit the needs of 95% of truck buyers. Heck -- until I purchased a toyhauler I could not tell you the spec differences between a 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton. Full Floating or Semi-Floating Rear Axle -- what the heck....
This is an RV forum and the thought on this forum is "Bigger is Better" and my mind now thinks that way also. But -- when I talk to family and relatives that are "non-RV or non-farm types" they see a truck as a truck.

RE: Airstream - The Whole Enchilada

Today was the firts time I saw this thread and all I can saw is "WOW". You definitely have skills!
This is really interesting considering that last weekend I was at Ocean Lakes in Myrtle Beach and was surrounded by Airstreams. It was a group of 25 from an Airstream Club and they were traveling from Delaware. I'm a little slow -- it took me 2 days to realize they were an Airstream Club.

RE: Oct Truck Sales

Looks to me like Nissan should kill the trucks they make and that maybe Toyota should consider doing the same on the Tundra. Both make great trucks but can't be profitable at that volume...
I have a Dodge and that is the only part of Dodge this is not talked about being killed. Then again they discussed making the Dodge Trucks a seperate Ram brand.

RE: Hurricane output announced

I like the turbo gasser but it will drink fuel like a big motor. A 500 hp turbo gasser will drink as much fuel when pulling as a larger motor non turbo'd. I had a VW Jetta with a 1.8T that put out 325 hp and 250 ft/lb torque with no issue at 18 psi. I see a 500 hp 6.2L gasser as being a conservative tune especially if it can run a 10.1 compression ratio.
As for fuel economy -- it had better have a huge tank....
Can't beat a diesel for fuel economy. The comments on diesels having flat torque curves is definitely due to the turbo's. The diesels in trucks today are nothing like the old non-turbo diesels of years ago. The non-turbo diesels pulled great but were slow -- they did not mind work but not fast. I still prefer a 40 hp nonturbo tractor over a 50 hp turbo'd tractor but I'd always want a turbo on any diesel truck.

RE: Hurricane output announced

TC'd gasser would potentially give a better powerband. Small turbo for low rpm and large turbo for upper. Mega-power. The advantage of Ford's Eco-Boost is the run a 10.1 compression ratio and have a turbo. Nice...

RE: Suburban Water heater problems

OK - my water heater still has an issue reigniting. Eventually it will ignite but sometimes hours later. Issue only shows up when three or four people take shows consecutive. Someone will get a cold shower due to not reigniting. Did it this last weekend. Cleaning it did not help. It does not have a shutter so can't adjust that. Any ideas? The flame does burn kinda orange so it may not be burning as clean as it should...

RE: Propane Question??

I have two campers and both need the lines purged if they sit for more than a few days. I thought this was normal -- the Propane goes back to liquid state when sitting for an extended period and thus has to run to go back to a gasseous state. I just light a stove burner and it's all good....

RE: What is the Short and Skinny on Winterization?

I use the pink stuff cuz it's easy. Just flip the bypass and drain the water heater, cut the pump on and run the faucets until pink. Drain fresh water tank and low point drains. Put some pink in the holding tanks.
Whole process is down to 10 minutes or less for me. Once I got rid of the inside inline filter the process became easy. That filter made it hard...

The 5.7 Hemi will make the 5.4 Ford feel like a 4cyl. The Hemi is a great engine that is pretty thirsty when towing.

RE: Small, Fuel efficient Class A Diesel

The Sprinter's will get the milage. I will believe 20mpg from them since they have a small diesel. But no way am I believing 13mpg with a Ford 5.4L Gas engine in a vehicle weighing 9000lbs and over 10 ft tall.

RE: Yes, Ford is worse than Ram(formally known as Dodge)

I totally understand why they made the fenders like that. They did it so they could just order the fenders for DRW trucks from JC Whitney.
Heard at Ford "Boss -- we sold another Dually. Guess I'll need to order some more fenders from JC Whitney!"
