RE: Engine Ac fuse and circuit breaker location

Engine Ac fuse and circuit breaker location

The wiring diagrams for my 91 Winnebago chieftain show both a fuse and breaker for the engine ac but I don't see either in the fuse and breaker compartments in the engine compartment. Does anyone know where these are located? I'm trying to call Winnebago today but figured I'd ask here as well ( I'm actually on vacation in the rig today ) thanks!

RE: Now and then

Very nice job, indeed. At the risk of being rude, which is NOT my intent, would you mind sharing with us your idea(s) and cost of the graphics. That is: Did you draw up an idea and present it to a company and have them custom made? or did you give them an idea and they ran with it? or is it a generic design with the W added? I've always wondered about graphics and thought they could be used in many applications. I like what you have done. Was the cost prohibitive? Cheaper than paint? If any of these questions are too personal, I understand. Just trying to get some ideas and costs...thanks for your time.....Dennis No problem at all.. The graphics are a body wrap and many places around will do them. When you see commercial trucks with all the fancy graphics (pictures etc.) most of them are just vinyl wraps like this. You can get anything you want (photos, pictures etc). We did some research on Winnebago designs from our year through the recent models to get some ideas. We printed out several and circled things we liked then we went in and sat down with the graphics folks to work up a design. It took 2 visits to get it the way we wanted. We were somewhat constrained with keeping colors that would sync with the interior which remained basically blue. I removed the old stripes myself (was quoted anywhere between $500 and $1k for someone else to do it) and then the graphics shop installed the vinyl wrap. The quotes I got to paint the vehicle were all around $6k or better so it made this an attractive option. The partial wrap cost about $1800. The size is proportional to the price. If we had the whole rig wrapped it would have been a bit more. I live in an area that's a little bit expensive for things like paint and mechanical work, so you might be able to get better pricing where you are at.

RE: Now and then

I noticed some ripple in the side wall in the original pictures, behind the rear wheels, above the basement doors and just below the fridge access panel. How did you repair those areas or is the ripple still there. It looks like it might still be there below the fridge access door. For the most part it's still there. They weren't too bad and the original striping seemed to bring them out. The vinyl does a good job at de-emphasizing them. The trim pieces that go over the wheels were damaged and seemed to emphasize the ripples a little bit. When I repaired the trim pieces (I used fiberglass to reinforce and straighten them)and painted them, it helped a bit.

RE: Now and then

Thanks folks! I've enjoyed fixing it up... We are heading down to Disney this Fall for our first big trip and we're really looking forward to it.

RE: Now and then

Looks good, but I was wondering. Did you paint the whole coach or just the area below the windows and down to the top of the compartments. Pretty good on the design patterns. You must be a painter to figure out something like that. Good job! Thanks! The new graphics are a partial vinyl wrap. We looked at the past 15 years or so of Winnebago designs to get some ideas. We wanted to update it, but still maintain some Winnebago ID. I repaired and painted the doors and bumpers below the graphics (used Dupont Centauri paint). The rest of the body above the graphics was just compounded, polished and waxed. The fiberglass was extremely dry, but hadn't started to really get powdery yet.

Now and then

Ok, since I finally found out how to post pictures, time to post some of my rig. It's a 91 Chieftain and I bought it around April as a "fixer upper". (hope this isn't too big to load well) Here's what it looked like then: http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac4/mxw128/mhlhssmall.jpg http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac4/mxw128/mh-rhs-small.jpg http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac4/mxw128/DSC_0582.jpg http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac4/mxw128/mhfrontsmall.jpg And here's some of "the Now": http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac4/mxw128/DSC_0151.jpg http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac4/mxw128/DSC_0149.jpg http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac4/mxw128/DSC_0152.jpg http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac4/mxw128/DSC_0150.jpg The interior was "cleaned up" too... I'll try to take some pics this weekend... I'm pretty happy with the project so far... This was in addition to all the suspension and other mechanical work...

RE: Hopkins TPMS sensor swelled and failed

Well, got the three replacements late last week. Installed them on the Rig this weekend as it was sitting here at the house. Noticed another one starting to fail on Sunday, man was it HOT!! It actually heated up the valve extension and bracket. It swelled up like the others. I found yet another today (not quite as bad, but definitely in the early stages and swelling). Called Hopkins, they will send replacements and had no answer for a redesign or replacing the remaining sensors. So I've had 5 of 8 original sensors now fail.

RE: Propane tank and travel

Anyone aware of any restrictions between va and fl along 95?

Propane tank and travel

We took our rig up to NJ (from VA) back in July for our first "longer" drive. We had driven the route countless times in a car and never paid too much attention to it. Going through Baltimore we realized that we couldn't go through the tunnel with the propane...(and confirmed it with a quick call to the local police) so we had to divert, backtrack and take the bridge. My question is this: When planning a trip with your RV, how do you know about these types of restrictions in advance? (or height, weight etc..) I don't think it shows up specially on a map or on a GPS (or does it?) Is there anyplace that lists these types of things, maybe by state or road?

RE: Hopkins TPMS sensor swelled and failed

Talked to Hopkins on tues am. They will replace the three that failed, but not the others. They said they don't know what happened and seemed to not want to admit knowing anything about this happening to others. They said they were fed exing out replacements and that I would have them on Wednesday. I havn't received them yet.(Thursday night) I'll call tomorrow to follow up.

RE: Rehabing coach decals and wheels

prep and paint is the only way to go thats wht I did to mine and it looks great ,,just be sure you clear coat the new paint and it will last for years.... I agree, paint is a great way to go, problem I found was cost. The quotes I got to paint my graphics was actually quite a bit more more than I paid for the rig!! The partial wrap I ended up is guarenteed against fading, cracking peeling etc for 7 years (I saw some examples that were approaching 10 years and they still looked good). So for me, with a 91, that's longer than I plan to keep the vehicle...

RE: Rehabing coach decals and wheels

I did the same thing (will post pics this weekend). I found that scraping, heat guns etc were very ineffective for me. I then found a product called GROG (Great remover of Graphics) Auto Trim Designs GROG This worked great!! I used it to remove all of my striping and decals. I found that it works better when it's warm outside and you need to let it sit long enough (the decal will start to curdle). Once it acts, you can scrape the vinyl off easily with one of their green scrapers or a bondo knife (I'd recommend both). Be carefull with it on some painted surfaces (I used it on regular fiberglass with no problems). I then went to my local sign and graphics shop and had them do a partial body wrap. It's the same stuff they use for commercial graphics and full vehicle wraps. I got a 40ish inch wide band around the entire vehicle to cover where the stripes were. Once you remove the strips, you'll still be able to "see" where they were, they protected the fibergalss all those years and there will probably be a noticable different between that and the areas that were exposed... Another "big impact" change for me was in changing out the wheel covers with simulators. I bought Phoenix brand and they look great. The coach looks brand new...

RE: Has anyone replaced Motor Aid lines?

Well I finally got to the line on the task list that says "replace motoraid lines". I used Gates Greenstripe heater hose; it has an exterior shell that's meant to resist abrasions and is for more industrial applications. I bought a 100ft box, and figured I'd have enough (my coach is only 32ft). Turns out I was short. (I think I got shorted in the box). I installed a 3 way valve back under the bed to allow me to divert coolant from the rear heater core in the back during the summer (but still heat my hot water tank) I also installed 2 ball valves at the motor to allow me to turn off the system completely if there are any leaks. Originally I was a little concerned using hose, but it turned out well and seems to work OK. It's surprising how hot the lines actually get all the way in the back of the coach... Thanks to everyone for the responses! Now I just need to fix the rear blower, it's still inop....

RE: Old tires

IMHO, those tires still belonged to the OP unless the dealer gave him some amount of "trade in". I don't believe the dealer had any right to knife the tires and if the OP wanted to take on the civil liability, he could have sold the tires to the trucker himself since they were still his property. Am I missing something here? Bob Absolutely agree, the tires belong to the OP unless other arangements had been made. When I swapped my tires out (changed from 8r to 225/70) the front 2 were new from when I bought the coach (only a couple months old and had about 1k miles on them). I sold them on Craigslist. (along with the older ones from the rear.. they were a bit newer than 10 years though..)

RE: Mystery Box under dash on 91 Winnebago

(they aren't the best pics anyway) Did you take new pictures? The ones you posted are very good IMHO. :-) thanks. They are new pics. The AF camera kept trying to focus beyond the subject. I needed additional lighting under the dash to get it to work.

It was indeed burnt. When you hooked it up, did the lights function like you anticipated? everything seems to work fine...

RE: Mystery Box under dash on 91 Winnebago

Thanks! Photobucket works well... Here's what I was looking at: http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac4/mxw128/dimmerbox.jpg And the bad connector that started the whole thing: http://i880.photobucket.com/albums/ac4/mxw128/badconnector.jpg I ended up eliminating the connector all together... Thanks for everyone's input!!!

RE: Hopkins TPMS sensor swelled and failed

I think my post yesterday got lost in transit.. I had a third sensor fail yesterday. Same deal, started to swell up. Luckily I caught it before the tire went flat. When I call Hopkins on Tuesday, I'm going to request they replace all of the sensors, I just can't trust them right now. I'm heading down to FL in about 3 weeks and it would be a bad day if one let loose on the road. Did they say how the replacement sensors were different? If there's nothing different how can we be sure that they won't fail as well?
