RE: Recommendations for RV Garage?

Mine is 22x40 with double 11 foot doors that open to each side. The overhead clearance is 14 ft with a peak of 17ft. The floor is a 8 inches of cement over sand and has a 3 inch drop in the 40 ft for drainage. The floor extends 30 feet past the doors giving me a 30 ft slab for washing the fiver and truck. I have 50 amp service. I do have a refer and all my shop equipment in there, but if I had to do it over I would go a little wider. I have portable heat, but very seldom turn it on and I have never winterized due to our climate. In my honest opinion I would go as big as you can afford. Good luck on your project. RT

RE: Allison MH 1000, Workhorse w20 8.1ltr

It's the number for a translator device for the DOC on a 1000 Allison. Go to the Allison web site and punch in the code, hopefully it will give you additional information RT

RE: Warning Regarding Extended Service Plan

I feel your pain, I just spent over $400 replacing some internal parts of my generator after it quit working. I was told that these parts aren't covered (brushes). I noticed that Old Biscuit sided with GS as he did with my claim. Makes me wonder????? My policy is up for renewal this month, but I seriously doubt that I will continue. I have been paying for 10 years and never had a claim until a few weeks ago that was denied. No need to throw good money after bad. This is not intended as a slam against GS or any of it's affiliates. I have their RV insurance and their road service policies and fully intend to continue with them. It's just the ESP that I have doubts about. Good luck. RT

RE: Do surge protectors go bad with age.

Thanks for the quick replies. Will keep the one I've got and invest the money in camp refreshments. Happy camping. RT

Do surge protectors go bad with age.

I have a 50 amp Surge Guard that is approx. 10 years old. It seems to still do it's job. We had a problem at the campground a few months ago and it shut down like it's supposed to do. I was just wondering if the age makes it unreliable or if should stick with the "if it ain't broke don't fix it"? Thanks RT

RE: This will sound like a strange post but is this normal?

I love your post, you sound like someone my wife and I would like to know. You are still young. You will have a lull in the action until the kids are through college and start having families of their own. That's when the fun starts. When you plan a camping trip you can almost count on at least one of the kids and family showing up, at least for a weekend. That's the way it is with us and we love it. We are leaving for two weeks in April and we already know our oldest son will be showing up with his wife and possibly my middle son and his wife and 3 kids. Granted, we seldom travel more than 4 hours from home and that's the reason, so they can show up. As you get older you will learn to appreciate the peace and quiet with just you and your wife after the grandkids leave. Also don't count out the fact that you will make many good new friends along the way. All the best. RT

RE: Pop tart gun in RV

I had a guy try to hold me up in the Wal Mart parking lot where I had set up camp for a couple of weeks. He pulled a Magnum Pop Tart on me, but he didn't realize the safety was on so I got away. Pretty scary stuff. RT

RE: Onan 5.5 HJAB-901A starting problem

I had exactly the same problem and got the same code. The technician said it was probably the control board or slip rings. Turned out to be the slip rings. $410.00 later it runs like a champ. Good luck. RT

RE: Parts replaced are not listed for coverage under your policy

Mr. Blanc I appreciate your quick response. I don't feel there is a need to pursue this any further. I will review my policy and weigh it's benefits against it's cost. Thanks again for your quick response. RT

RE: Parts replaced are not listed for coverage under your policy

These are internal parts that are not listed on the exceptions to the policy and even if they were it's my understanding that "wear and tear" was eliminated from the exceptions. RT

Parts replaced are not listed for coverage under your policy

That's what me rejection notice said when I asked for reimbursement for work done on my built in generator. The parts were the brushes and the block that holds them. Not being reimbursed isn't what is bothering me as much as the reason. If these internal parts of the gen set are not covered, what is? RT

RE: Onan 5500 generator slow to start, quits

I just went through the same problem. Technician said it was either the control board or slip rings. Turned out it was the slip rings. Good luck. RT

RE: What wax/polish for fiberglass RV?

WalMart and West Marine sell a product called Starbright Teflon Boat Wax. It's cheap, and I've been using it a long time on various cars boats, trucks, lawn mowers.... it's freaking awesome. I don't remember how I ran across it, purely by accident, but it really throws a nice shine. It's hard to go wrong with almost any wax if you prep and apply it correctly. I agree, this is the best I have tried if you have gel coat. I don't know how it works on regular rv finish. The 303 works well on regular finish, but if you use it on gel coat and ever want to use a regular wax you will have a nightmare trying to polish off the wax residue. At least that's been my experience. RT
