RE: IS WalMart topic still allowed? A little long

Let's see, you were a victim of being allowed to walk past five police cars, every store employee, to get into a store where you thought there might be an emergency of some type--right?
And your responsibility for your own safety in this situation is.....?
All I can say is that you and your friend must have really really wanted to shop in a big way!
Decided not to turn what was suppose to be a good thing that WalMart did in responce to a friends email into something catty, to bad the rest of the self rightious people here can't.

IS WalMart topic still allowed? A little long

If so here is a good thing from a bad thing that they did.
My friend had gone to the store in Redmond, OR. to pick up some stuff after getting off work. She noticed that there were 5 police cars in the fire zone of the store. She said she thought they must of had some violent shoplifter or something like that. She approched the door and dicoverd they were locked, another lady approached about the same time. She said they both stood there looking at each other wondering what was going on, then they noticed that all the store employees were standing out near the rear of the parking lot, which is a distance form the door. They asked and were told that there had been a bomb threat.
What ticked my friend off was that while the employees were all standing safely out at the rear of the parking lot she and another customer were allowed to approach the building. She was going to write a letter, I suggested email. Since she just had surgery and her laptop is perched on a table in front of the couch she decided on a courtious yet strongly worded email about the incident and the fact that she did not feel valued as a customer because they had placed her safety in jepordy by allowing her to approach. Early next morning the store manager called, told her what had prompted the incident, and assuring her that she had been in no danger, even though the employees had not been allowed back into the store. Her point was once the police had pulled away from the driveways, there should have been store supervisors or employees asigned to a perimeter a distance from the store entrances to keep customers from approaching until such time they to were allowed into the store. She and the other lady had no idea there really was no bomb.
Someone from corprate called her about two days later and she had a wonderful discusion with the person who agreed that they had a hole in there emergency plan and that they and the management from the store were working on revising the plan so that something like that would not happen again. They also thanked her for her email and the fact that she didn't send a rant and rave, but offered possible ideas on how to solve the issue.

RE: Politically Correct Ways to tell someone they are Goofy::::

Half a bubble off plum.
I'm also not to sure how much this has to do with telling someone they are goofy as opposed to just plain dumb.
I did like the "wheel is spinning, but the hamster is dead" that was cute.

RE: Do you remember?

Those that I do not remember from original run, most I remember from re-runs.
I still watch Perry Mason at noon on a local station.
The Rifleman deserves much better placement on that list.

RE: Halloween traditions-what do you do ?

Nothing anymore. I give out candy till it is gone or the kids haven't knocked for at least 15-20 mins. Shut off lights in house, go to be or watch tv.
The last couple years we have watched the Ghost Hunters on SiFi, so that is what we will do again this year.
When the kids were young we would decorate, and do the whole spook house thing, but now it is just alot of work. Since the grandkids are not coming to the house to trick or treat, I don't need to do that.
I don't even do pumpkins anymore.

RE: What do people want from their news ?

Fair and balanced reporting.
Yes, that is the begining. Also how about the truth, good or bad about anyone they are reporting on. Stop whitewashing the topics of some stories while trying to make the topic of others more sinister or evil than it is.
Oh, and when you break into my programing to tell me that someone died, great, now get back to my show. I do not want to spend the next 2, 4, 6, 8 hours listening to or seeing the same footage in a loop, with the commentators rehashing the same stuff.

RE: Is it just me or the sign of the times

If the youth are lying more today, it is because our generation taught them that it is OK. When young people see some of our most respected people making millions lying or telling half truths on radio, TV, the lecture circuit, and the pulpit, and their parents and friends accepting it as truth, it is teaching them that is OK to tell less than the truth if it helps one's cause or is profitable.
I do not believe the youth of today are lying any more than our generation. Our generation is just better at masking or hiding it in half truths.
Very well put. When the youth of our country our being shown the wrong way to act by their so called "role models", those without a strong moral compas to ground them will follow. It has become an accepted practice it seems to get where you want and what you want by lying.

RE: Breaking news w/ video: trying to rescue child from aircraft

The next question is why so much coverage to begin with. Since when would the news show a child die live?
Although your question makes perfect sense to normal people, of course the news media would jump all over this. It's what they live for and you can bet they would have shown whatever happened live.
You also have to remember some people in this country lap up this kind of news drama and will sit for hours glued to the tube to watch the outcome. Anyone remember the white ford bronco chase?

RE: Breaking news w/ video: trying to rescue child from aircraft

Hoax. Think about the kind of people that participate in "reality shows"-- publicity junkies and these folks had gone seven months without a fix!
While I agree there is probably a certain amount of publicity seeking personality involved in thsee not-reality shows, I don't believe all the participants are there for the same reason. Some I think are there with the hopes of getting easy money. Some don't care how bad they have to look to get it. Some though I think on at least one or two shows are there to learn a new way to live.
As for this family, well it is hard to say. Obviously they are thrill seekers, and enjoy risking thieir necks and taking the kids with them. Maybe the kids are learning by example. I wathced an interview this morning on the today show, and question his involvent to the level that people think, he was visibly upset and near tears when he was asked about how his actions earlier may have caused Falcon to hide for so long.
Whatever the case, to some degree the parents should be held finacially responsible, and the kids should be required to apologize for their actions, especially Falcon for continuing to hide after people started to call him.

RE: Breaking news w/ video: trying to rescue child from aircraft

I'm very happy that the young man was found at home and very safe, but the amount of stress and greif he caused to a lot of people who were watching this play out. Those poor police and rescue personel who were there when it that thing came down, can you imagine the horrible things they were imagining? Also a recent report on CNN seems to indicate that this young man and his brothers were playing a trick or something, then when it got out of control, got scared. I think a couple little boys will have some making up to do, and some punishments to serve.
Thank you God that he is safe though.

RE: Do you sew?

I still sew, but like many I do not sew clothing much anymore. Just the occasional shirt. Mostly I sew baby blankets and am trying to learn how to quilt.
Premade clothing is just cheaper and take less time.

RE: Should Adult cyclists be allowed to roll thru stop signs ?

Charles Manson considers himself a prophet, but that has no effect on what he actually IS. The law defines bicyclists as drivers of vehicles, and for good reason. Average speed for a pedestrian is 3 miles an hour, an elite runner might make it to fifteen or a little over that sprinting, though you'd rarely see that out on the road. Bicylclists can easily travel in the 20s and 30s, and will normally be over ten.
Bicycles also are made of metal, and have the capacity to cause a lot more harm when they hit a pedestrian than another pedestrian would. They have braking, steering, and gear systems that can fail or be mis-handled and result in a loss of control in a way that simply does not happen with pedestrians.
Of course if a cyclist feels that traffic conditions make it safer to be a pedestrian, they always have that option... as soon as they hop off that bike and walk it.
I have to say this is probably the best stated case as to why a bike should not be allowed to ride through a stop sign. Very well thought out.

I'm just wondering why do bicyclist think they should be allowed special rules while riding their bikes?
google "Critical mass" in San Francisco.
