RE: Need advice on my truck.

I'm glad I went to 4.56 but I'm an oil burner. IMHO I think you'll be surprised at the benefit. I had a '97 ford with a 460 and 3.55 that struggled pulling so I put 4.30s in it. What a difference.
Do the math and figure out where your RPMs will be and the compromise between power and economy. Good Luck

RE: Opinions on possible truck buy

I bought a 97 F-250 6 years ago to pull my toy hauyler with and it pulled very poorly. I looked up the VIN code for the axle ratio and found out that it had 3.55 gears - great for running empty but not so good (understatement) for pulling. I ended up regearing to 4.30 and it was much better. Still poor milage (with a 460 is there anything else?) but it did well pulling. I don't remember the code but it was part of the door jam info.
I don't have to worry about that now...:B

RE: GMC 2500HD... should I?!

You bet he wants it. It means he just sold you a new truck.

RE: Lift on Tow Vehicle

No Problems here. 6 inch lift on 35 inch toyos - 28 ft. toy hauler. I travel about once a month with that trailer. otherwise I am usually pulling a 16 ft. enclosed (5k) on a 10 inch drop rapid hitch.
I have friends pulling lifted as well including a 41 ft. 5th wheel.
Each set up is different but I like mine...
