RE: Firestone Transforce AT tires

I just put six on my truck two weeks ago.Towed the fiver about 600 kms today. So far I am quite pleased. They are very quiet compared to my last tires. Today was a very wet drive and they performed well on the wet pavement as well. Time will tell how they are in the snow....only a couple months away!

RE: Big Rigs to Tents Friendly - Pukaskwa National Park - ON

Did you feel you didn't get your point across on the last thread about Pukaskwa, so you would have another go on this thread?

RE: Pukaskwa National Park, (shores of Lake Superior - Ontario)

Very interesting about the park. We have yet to plan a trip this yr for a variety of reasons, but your post and your blog has peaked my curiosity. Your pictures look great. Thanks for sharing. We had considered a quick trip to Gaspe in the fall, but perhaps we will head the opposite direction on hwy 17 after seeing/hearing about this. Cheers.

RE: Help With Newfoundland Trip

I am very envious. We were there for 6 wks last yr and wish we were going again. One of the best trips we have ever done! With regards to internet access....I was pleasantly surprised and somewhat miffed at how common WIFI access was in some very remote areas! We live about two hrs north of our Nations Capital, albeit a rural area, and dial-up is all that is available. I chuckled one day while staying in Gros Morne, literally, moose standing outside the trailer, surrounded by wilderness, and had a hi speed wireless connection! We arrived at Porte aux Basques very late after a rough crossing and boondocked at the visitor information center(VIC) right on the highway after getting off the ferry...as was mentioned, not level but it did the trick for the night. 5 RV's did the same. At Argentia while waiting to board we were at a campground that was right at the top of the hill before descending to the terminal. Can't remember the name, but you can't miss it...well signed on the right hand side on the way to the terminal....funny thing, we set up there for the night waiting for an early crossing reservation then saw that they will actually check you in the night before and spend the night in the parking lot...so we moved and did that with a group of other travellers...(old army habits die hard...have to be early for timings! Drives DW banannas. lol). If arriving back in Cape Breton late (as we did) The Arm of Gold Campground is about 10 mins from the terminal, and is advertised on the boat as a convenient stopping place, was a perfect spot. The owner caters to the ferry travellers and guides you in within a large field, pull thru type of site no fuss no muss and right to bed! (cash only if I remember correctly and he only charges half day if you arrive late. Have a blast and take in as much as you can! If you have any specific questions that you think I could answer, don't hesitate to PM me. Cheers Simon

RE: Road conditions & big rig parks S Ste Marie to Ottawa

You are well within the length limits. 75' total length is the limit and I am sure you are not exceeding that with your toad....unless it is a stretch limo.lol. You listed your hieght as 4m...max hieght in Ont is 4.15m. Anywhere lower is signed well in advance, I don't believe You will not see any low bridges on the route you mentioned. Right in North Bay there is a Wal Mart on Hwy 17 on your right as you head east. Very easy to get into. Also, just west of North Bay, about half way between Sudbury and North Bay there is a campground called Ratter Lake Campground. We stumbled on it once for a stop-over. Owners are excellent hosts. There were several serviced pull-thru lots large enough for your rig. The owner guides you in and helps you get settled. I would highly reccomend it. We ended up staying a couple nights and visited Science North and the Nickle Mine in Sudbury. Very interesting. http://www.ratterlake.ca/ Good Luck. You will be driving past our home. Honk and wave on your way by! Simon

RE: Newfoundland

We spent just about 6 wks there last summer and it was the best trip we have done to date. As others have said it is a trip in itself. Definitely not trying to deter you, but another consideration if you are thinking of going just because you are close to the ferry, is the cost of ferry travel. Our setup is 53' in length and we took the short crossing there and the long crossing back for a total cost of close to $1800.00 CAD......It was worth every penny, but still food for thought.

RE: Camping in Ontario....Charleston Lake or Murphy's Point

Both are equally nice. I would say that Charleston is a little more geared towards canoeing though. Murphy's is on the north shore of the Big Rideau which at times can be big, busy water with lots of cruisers on the Rideau route. Charleston does not see throughfare traffic and has some back bay type of water adjacent to the park. Both parks are very busy and require reservations in advance to be sure of an opening. Have Fun.

RE: Broken Skylite

Tom Kat posted while I was typing. That is a great sugestion that I never thought of while repairing mine. I just may re-do it that way, this spring....if all this snow ever melts!

RE: Broken Skylite

Mine cracked on all 4 corners last yr from snow wieght and I used Dicor self levelling caulk and sealed all the edges and cracked corners. It has been good since. Depending on how gig your break is, you might get away with the same. If not, I am afraid replacement will be necessary, which is no big deal. There is an inside piece and an outside piece. The biggest pain is removing all of the old caulking to get at the outside piece. Reinstall both pieces and caulk really well. No biggy! Good Luck!

RE: Ottawa area camping

Hi There are a couple choices that we would reccommend off the top of our heads http://www.ottawacampground.ca/Home.html We enjoy this one when we have something to attend in Ottawa. Just outside Ottawa, quiet treed, Water and power on site. I would guess about an hour from Perth on hwy 7. http://www.sunnysidecampground.on.ca/ This one is another spot near Westport (1/2 hr from Perth). Very quiet but very few transient sites...mostly seasonals. We stayed while visiting family in Westport. Hydro and water on site. Westport is a cute place to visit...maybe not so much for teenagers though.lol Finally..Murphy's Point Provincial Park is very close to Perth and has electrical sites. We have intended on going but have never actually made it. Must have reservation and I think sites are limited for larger rigs. If I think of others I will pass them on. Simon

RE: Canadians Flags Camping???

I just recently retired from the Canadian Armed Forces after 21+yrs service. It is second nature to put up the Maple Leaf where ever we set up camp.
