RE: Best time for a trip to the Grand Canyon?

We just went over Christmas and it was gorgeous and the weather, while cold, was not bad at all. Yes, we had snow at the campground and had to take the normal precautions for the night time temperatures, but the crowds were manageable. There were more people there than I thought there would be, mostly foreign tourists. We stayed at the Trailer Village while there but spent some time down in the Sedona and Tucson areas while in AZ.

RE: New Orleans & Atchafalaya Basin

We stayed overnight at Lake Fausse Point State Park on the western edge of the basin. Nice park!

RE: Small Gray and Black Tanks

I have 9 and 15 gal black and gray tanks, and we (2 of us) just went 4 days no problem. Yes, I tend to use the campground facilities when possible, so clean showers is something I look at in the reviews. My shower is so small it's not as comfortable as using the facilities anyway. Yes, I wish I had more - I also wish I had a little larger trailer. But it's what I have for now so I make the most of it and still have fun.

RE: Old dogs needing help up stairs?

I definitely feel your pain. Oscar is now exhibiting the old age issues associated with larger dogs getting up and down. We are working on ramp training him to get in and out of the truck. He can still handle the trailer steps ok. But it really was brought home to me as it's gotten colder. That's when he has always like getting up in bed with me and snuggling. He can't do it. I have to put his front paws up on the bed then do the bum lift/push. Once up there he loves being able to settle in. Thank goodness we don't have stairs in the house although I think he could handle the stairs ok for now.

RE: Looking for AZ. RV trip recommendations

I'm planning a trip similar, leaving Texas Saturday and hitting Tucson, Sedona and Grand Canyon. I've been keeping a real close eye on the 10 day forecast - not much snow forecast for next week but as others have said GC will be in the teens at night although above freezing during the day. We only plan on staying 2 nights there. We are also looking at Dead Horse near Cottonwood and using that as a base of operations for Sedona and that area.

RE: State Park

Texas State Parks are not on Reserve America - they have their own reservation system. Also, you don't reserve a particular site in the Texas parks.

RE: New proceedures ??

The one east of El Paso, near Sierra Blanca. The trucks were backed up onto I-10, while the cars just whizzed by. Thanks for the info. We will be heading west to AZ for Christmas and plan to drive I-10 both ways.

RE: 2011 KZ Sportsmen Classic 19BH Stabilizer Jack Question

That's what the socket end looks like. I have to say I've never gotten low enough to see what the jack end looks like on my 16BH.

RE: Battery for a smaller TT.

I bought it in-store. And I believe it was a MAXX. I will check when I get home.

RE: Battery for a smaller TT.

To the OP - I have a Sportsmen Classic 16BH and when I recently replaced the battery, I upgraded to a group 31 from Wally World. I did have to buy a new case for it, but it fit (barely) in the space occupied by the smaller case.

RE: things to do in Austin

At Zilker Park, there are a lot of activities and things to see and do, including the Botanical Gardens. Even at this time of year, there are all kinds of interesting things to see. Food - Tex Mex on South First, another BBQ place is the Salt Lick in Driftwood. Or if you are really adventurous, there are numerous food trucks.

RE: Little Grand Canyon and Wedge Overlooks of Utah

Amazing! And I love the color the cottonwoods add to your second trip photos of the canyon!

RE: Light Weight Travel Trailer

My Sportsmen Classic tops out at around 2900 pounds and there are some 14' models that are even less, while still maintaining a dry bath and adequate storage. Downside on mine is no dedicated queen bed, but I a lot of people I'm acquainted with solve that by eating on tv trays or outside. I personally use the lower bunk for sleeping and removed half the top bunk to open up the space a lot more.

RE: Quit Traditional Greasing & Flouring Baking Pans

What about just putting a sandwich baggie on your hand to 'grease' the pan? That's the way I learned how to do it, and my mom used this recipe when baking when I was growing up.

RE: Riding out Sandy in 10ft camper!!!

Actually, it was taking anywhere from 15 to over 24 hours to go 200 miles. So many of these people left in plenty of time but were in gridlock with no good place to go.

RE: OH, Where to go?

Just know that the second week in March is typically Spring Break for most all of Texas schools, public as well as university. So many of the state parks fill up that week. I found out about a hidden gem called Caprock Canyons State Park because Palo Duro was booked. Caprock Canyons was the prettier canyon as far as I'm concerned and not nearly as crowded.

RE: Tallulah Gorge State Park North GA (Fall Pics)

That's on my list of possible places to stay the next time I camp in GA. I'm glad to see that there's room in the campground for trailers. When I was there last, it was almost all tents with a few pop-ups.

RE: I finally did it!

I'm actually going to have to worry about it for my Christmas trip as we are going somewhere cold - northern AZ! And I don't have a HWH bypass on my trailer. So I'm not sure what method we are going to use yet - whether to get the bypass kit and install or just do a drain and hit the traps.

RE: What CG is your favorite between Carlsbad and San Antonio?

Is San Angelo worth it? It looks to be further than going I-10 through Sonora.

RE: M D Anderson Hosp. Houston Texas

I don't have a lot of experience with camping near MDA but I want wish you all the best. My dad was a patient there for many years, my mom only has to go once a year now - and because of my family history, I visit the Cancer Prevention Center for most of my physical type checkups.
