RE: Push latch broke on converter

I sent them a email with my problem and within a short time I got an email asking where to send a new one to. I'm very impressed with the customer service I received from this company.

RE: Temps up, how cool can you get inside?

I have a hard time with this idea of covering the windows and skylights and vents. I don't even like the shades down. Camping from a sleeping bag on the open ground with a motorcycle, to a tent, to a pop-up, to a camper ... little by little closing out the "outside", sunshine, and view of nature, to completely blocking your windows ...??? why not just stay home and sleep in the closet in your bed room with the door shut. In my opinion, it's the same thing if you can't experience the view from your own windows.
I'm only doing this in extreme weather conditions. Might only be one window the sun is beating in. I'm not sure how sleeping in the closet is related to this. Are you sleeping during the day? When I sleep it's dark out, my eyes are shut and the shades are closed. How am I missing out on the view from my windows while sleeping? During the day I'm never in the camper so I'm not missing out on anything that way either. On hot days I like to have a cool place to sleep. My camper apparently isn't the best insulated and gets uncomfortable on very hot days. I found a solution that works for me.

RE: Temps up, how cool can you get inside?

Last year when it was in the high 90's and humid my camper would creep up to 80 inside by late afternoon. I'm camping Tue-Sun over the 4th and the forecast is high 90's with heat index's of 110's. After researching what I could do to help this is what I did.
First I found leaks in my A/C unit plenum that was blowing cold air into the ceiling area. I used aluminum tape to seal that all up good.
I knew my vent was allowing tons of heat in because the bathroom was always hot and I could feel it coming from the vent. I bought this and I also installed a piece of foil bubble insulation first.
I also cut pieces of foil bubble insulation for all the windows except for the one by the table because I don't want it like a dungeon inside the camper. This window is also covered by the awning. It's all cut snug to fit and seems to make a HUGE difference. I made the pieces today and it was hot out. You could just feel the heat coming from the windows while I was working on them. When I would get a piece cut and in the window it's like the heat just stopped from that window. I had never paid attention to how much heat the windows let in.
I'll know if this paid off or not in a few days.
I prefer the windows not covered and I'll only cover the windows when it's extremely hot out.

RE: 4th of July Camping

I don't get to camp as often as I'd like since I'm self employed. I'm going out Tue after work and staying till Sun. This basically will be the longest I get to camp this season. What stinks is last week we had a heat wave move through with temps close to 100 predicted as far as the forecast goes with heat indexes in the 110's so I'm not sure how enjoyable it will be.

Hughes Autoformer & Neat Digital Meter

I spent a couple hours reading about voltage regulators on RV.net because the dedicated RV plug I have in my garage was boarder line low with the A/C on and the last time I camped at my favorite state park and it was extremely hot out the voltage there was starting to worry me at times.
I ended up buying a Hughes Autoformer from PPL. It's a 100 degrees here right now and I tried my A/C at the house and it was 111 volts. After plugging the Autoformer in the voltage was 120. This is exactly what I needed and it seems to work as advertised.
On a side note I bought the digital volt meter on Amazon and I'm very pleased with it also. It also shows if the outlet is wired correctly. I tested it against a Fluke digital meter and it was dead on.

RE: Winegard Carryout going to be obsolete with Direct TV?

Camping World has the Carryout 1518 for $499 if you are a Good Sam member. $599 plus $100 off coupon and free shipping, until 7/1/12.
This is why I'm thinking about buying one. The price is the cheapest I've ever seen.

Winegard Carryout going to be obsolete with Direct TV?

I'm thinking about buying the Winegard Carryout automatic satellite dish. I know it doesn't do HD channels with Direct TV and wonder if somewhere down the road it will be obsolete with them.
Is that possible? I don't want to invest into something that won't work even 5 years down the road.
Also the manual says Winegard does not recommend using an HD receiver since HD programming will not be available. All I have is HD receivers so will it even work for me?
