RE: Gas price diffence

it is amazing that the business retailing the gas/diesel makes less per gallon than the state gov't...The state gov't has NO outlay of cash to make the retail business...why do they profit more than the poor folks selling it??? IL is same with ridiculous state and local taxes

RE: New exhaust yes or no.

lsmike...all great info BUT the 8.1 is OLD SCHOOL design so what works on the LS1` very possibly wont work on an 8.1 OP..what are you towing that the 8.1 needs more power? All pickups and berbs I've been in with 8.1, tow big trailers great

RE: Will 1 roof air keep us cool?

Ed, you have to ask yourself what is a comfortable temp for you and all who will be inside the RV. People have varying levels of comfort. If your 1 who likes 72 degrees...odd are 1 will not do it for you. Also...direct sunshine part or all day hampers performance as well.

RE: Does Odometer add mileage when towing 2012 Explorer?

All vehicles should show mileage if towed....it is wear and tear on everything but the engine and its accessories. Anything from suspension, transmission, squeaks, rattles, body are being subjected to wear. Is it fair for any auto manufacturer to have to deal with a "warranty" customer prone to hearing squeaks and rattles after the toad has been towed for 50k miles but the odometer shows 29500 miles,,,when the original warranty is 36000 miles?? NO Is it fair not to disclose those 50k miles to a prospective buyer when the time comes for the vehicle to be sold? NO but the above 2 are very common occurrences...day in and day out

RE: Parking for the winter in Mo.

jdart, if your staying parked and not going any place during the winter...you won't need an anti gel in the fuel. You do NOT want to be starting the engine as a regular routine unless you drive it a good distance to make sure the engine oil gets good and warm. You will create more damage starting, idling for a 1/2hr then shutting it off. I'm in MO..when I store mine....engine stays off, fuel tank is full, conditioner added to tank(I dont worry about anti gel), water tanks are drained, water lines are full of antifreeze. I do keep it plugged in for the battery charge...I then cover it and let it sleep for the winter. If we would get BIG snows I may push the snow off the roof. I've had no issues in the spring.

RE: Costs of having work done on an RV

Jallen, several things prohibit the cheap repair facilities. Rv'g is NOT as large as we all tend to think it is. While on this site, SURE RV'g seems really large in numbers. Now compare that to the whole lower 48, then add Canada...now RVs are not so large as we think. 1.Just where would a person build this cheap repair facility to accommodate all these RVs so it is convenient for all? 1st thought where many snow birds go would be my choice. Well land costs are at premium in those locations..OOPS can't do that because that will tend to raise repair costs 2. How big do I build the facility to handle the expected work load? BIG is my thinking to accomidate many...OOOPS can't do that because big buildings cost big $$ to build/insure/tax/maintain...which leads to higher repair costs 3. Do I buy new equipment or used equipment to supply the shop once built? Used will be cheaper which will keep costs down, but might not be dependable. I sure hate to tell a customer..OOPS your RV is not finished because our used cheaper equipment failed and we have to get it repaired before we can repair your RV. 4. Just how many qualified technicians do I put in the shop? Or do I put unqualified techs? Qualified costs more money...I'm out to keep this cheap for the consumer...So lets go qualified for the techs to avoid problems. OOPS that's going to raise repair costs 5. Now how many techs do I have standing there with nothing to do every day all day....just for that 1 RV owner to come in with problems and in need of repair RIGHT NOW? 1? 2? more? They won't stand there all day for free...so I must pay them...OOPS can't do that...that will add to ALL repair costs for ALL customers. See where I'm going with all this? It all seems very easy when we look at it with a customer's viewpoint. It drastically changes when it's from a business owners viewpoint. It is an extremely tough endevour to attempt to please everyone and appeal to everyone. Most all of us knew owning an RV was going to bring 2 new hobbies with it.... 1. being busy with DIY repairs or 2. being busy righting checks to pay for those RV repairs

RE: Air Conditioner smell

paul, turning the heat on to the hottest setting is going to do what?? The heater core is after the evaporator in the majority of the HVAC dash systems. Dash AC systems get their smell from mold and mildew which usually always has attached itself to the foam insulation around the evaporator. The evaporator itself may contain some smell as well.

Don't put too much faith in Car Fax....make sure you read ALL their disclaimers before even attempting to consider anything they report on any vehicle. Once you read ALL their disclaimers and think about what you just read...you will understand.

RE: Costs of having work done on an RV

We've seen many good replies and many good concerns brought out with this thread. I have to wonder though, With all who complain of cost being too high what they did for a living and if anyone else would consider them being overpaid.

RE: Honda Generator - DP

Funny how our minds work....... We drive houses on wheels that get terrible mpg We then obsess over how much it costs to run the built in genny we paid thousands of $$ to have it's convenience. Then we hunt for a genny that is easy on fuel and then go through what's required to have/operate it. If I have my race trailer with me, I run my Honda 3000i in the trailer to power the RV and let the 6500lp Onan sit unused. :)

RE: Impact sensors

J2 please remember that all these new fangled safety devices have NEVER made a vehicle 100%. Injury can occur with any accident. All these devices help reduce injury but none can stop injury.
