RE: Directv DVR continuously resetting when no signal from sat

I just looked up the specs for a randomly selected Seagate hard drive. Parked it was listed as 368 g's and operating it was listed at 68 g's. Clearly having the drives parked( turned off) is much safer.
Also remember that Directv uses standard hard drives and not laptop hard drives ( which can handle more abuse). Unless necessary unplugged is safer for transporting a DVR.
Replace the internal drive by plugging a solid state drive into the SATA port on the back of the directv box. Then you can have more storage capacity if you choose to, and you won't have to worry about g's :)
We are talking DirecTV here. DirecTV axillary drives are eSATA and replace the internal drive so they are not add-on storage. I think current drives range from 320gb for an HR20 to 1TB for a Genie. You need a housing too with a power supply.
Looks like 300gb plus drives start a little over $300 on Amazon. Seems doable but expensive. If me, I'd swap out the internal drive. Not that hard if you know/have the secret keys to the kingdom. Got kind of hard starting with the HR24.
I'd do some reading. Search SatGuysUS and DBSTalk. Seem to work but one guy says the temp is too low and it fails on his box. You can buy 3-4 1TB regular drives for the price of one SSD.

RE: Is there such a thing as a HD portable dish for Direct TV

I have been looking for an automatic portable HD dish for Direct TV. I find some that pick up HD for Dish network and Shaw but none for Direct TV. We like our Direct TV service at home and camp in a lot of areas where there are trees so a roof mount is out. Thanks for any help in this matter.

Not automatic though...
Not HD either which OP wants.
No, I get HD with that one...
There is no way that dish will receive the HD birds at 99 and 103.
Winegard link. DirecTV SD only.
I'm getting HD with that antenna on Dish. Assumed since that antenna works for Direct too, it would get Direct HD.

RE: Direct TV Setup

Is your bedroom receiver an H25? I don't believe there is an HR25. If it is an H25, that receiver requires a SWM setup. Which you could do, if you want. You'd probably want a SWM8 switch and then you'd need a power inserter for the SWM8. You'd plug all four wires from your dish - probably right at the dish - into the SWM8 and run one wire to your trailer. That one wire would plug into the power inserter, and the satellite output from the power inserter would plug into a 2- way SWM splitter; one output to each TV.
Or, you could forget the SWM setup and run two outputs - any two - to the HR24; with the two inputs, you'd be able to watch one channel and record another (which will also work with one SWM input). But then your H25 won't be able to work.
Rather than a SWM8 why not just swap in a SWM LNB as Mike says.

RE: Can someone with a Jensen 975 answer a question

I like my 975 fine. Got it as the DVD player outputs HDMI to a display, soundbar or A/V receiver. Keep in mind it does NOT do 5.1 surround to it's speakers. It's kind of two units in one. A DVD deck and stereo radio. It outputs sound to three stereo (two-channel) zones.

RE: PayPal DOES Stand Behind The Buyer.

Both eBay and PayPal, same company, can be bad news. I always use PayPal via a linked credit card. They are better but I will never let them take the dough directly from my bank account. I want some real recourse if something goes wrong.
Remember, when you dispute any kind of charge you are likely dealing with a boiler room operation filled with hundreds of low paid souls working under high pressure. They may not even understand what you are trying to tell them. Credit card companies handle disputes the same way but depending on your record with them, you likely will have better results.
Interesting thing is that China sellers are some of the most reputable on eBay. Customer is always right. NEVER been burned with them.

What phones requires the use of the lock screen too? Interesting extra hoop but if it works, so be it.

RE: Need PdaNet 4.01 for new Win8 laptop

You need a the desktop client too. My galaxy Tab 2 connects to my galaxy S3 hotspot without need for any add-on apps. Both are rooted and the GS3 has been ROM'ed so maybe that is the difference..

RE: FoxFi Updated: Works on Some Late Model Motorolas Running JB

I have a galaxy S3. Unlimited data and can use the native app, TreveMod, PDANet+/FoxFi and the "new" FoxFI. I actually thought FF was dead but now it includes USB tether ing too. All very confusing but all four work without need for changing lock screen.

RE: Satellite set up for RV - Direct TV

Need a bit more info. What kind of dish does it have? For HD you'll need a Slimline, either ground-mount or roof-mounted Trav'ler. I recommend getting SWM versions of both. Then it just one wire from the dish to a splitter and one wire to each receiver/DVR.
There is a lot more to it than that. I'd search DirecTV here and spend some time reading. You need to get familiar with the lingo, DirecTV equipment and programming options, and the numerous RV gotchas.

RE: PDANET full paid version stopped after update

Multi-window is not part of Android itself. It was added by Samsung to their TouchWiz framework and is only available on a few of their tablets, as far as I know.
I haven't seen any ROMs with this feature. In fact, when Cyanogenmod talked about adding it, Google specifically told them not to and if they did then Google would take steps to prevent CM from "impacting the Android ecosystem."
Thanks, didn't know it was TW only. Synergy for S3 has it and "Beans" is adding it but from what I have read it is buggy. Some argue, "What's the point?" I'm new to this Samsung TW world and actually think I spend more time hiding its features. My S3 pretty much looks like my DX did now.

Lucky you guys that have 4.2:

RE: Verizon's NEW text messaging app

Force Closes on my Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 so a no go for me. MightyText works mighty fine too.
The Verizon app and MightyText are actually 2 different animals. MightyText is in the category of text apps that relies upon your phone to actually send/receive texts. That's why you need to instal the app on both your phone and your tablet. The Verizon app uses your phone's account but the texts are sent/received via wifi so your phone doesn't even need to be turned on, nor does it need to be in the vicinity, to send/receive texts on the tablet.
That's why a gave it a try but of no use if crashes.
Reviews are going 2/3 for, 1/3 against.

RE: LATEST VERIZON SOFTWARE UPDATE

It all depends on the phone, the OS, the provider and its popularity. Popular phones have more developers working to make them more capable.

RE: LATEST VERIZON SOFTWARE UPDATE

I have 4.2.2 on my Samsung S3 and Foxfi (now PDAnet) works just fine. I bought the key for a few bucks and it's well worth it.
I have a VZW (Verizon) S3 (but most of this applies to all Android phones).
Are you VZW?
What ROM are using to get 4.2.2?
I am using CleanROM R2 based on the 4.1.2 last official VZW release. It allows the use of the native HotSpot without the need for FoxFi or PDANet+.
I am rooted and unlimited have been able to use the two previous builds of 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 with the native HotSpot. FoxFi will not load on 4.1.2 but tells you instead to upgrade to PDAnet+. Running PDAnet+ simply loads the native HotSpot.
Consider ROOTING. Since all phones and ROMs are different, I recommend going to XDA and read up on your phone. Search tether, hotspot, FoxFi to see if there are work-arounds. You may need to root and/or install a modded ROM. Rooting may be just too scary for some and I have had some white-knuckle moments. Maybe I qualify for the new Air Force armchair airwar "drone" medal. Rooting is just like telling Windows to show system and hidden files. It just unlocks the hood so you can tinker with the engine.
Before rooting, backup your important stuff, have the right tools and software "specifically" built for your phone, and have the proper manufacturers software you can run from a desktop to re-flash the phone back to factory new if things don't go well. Once rooted you can run more stuff and remove factory bloatware and spyware. Most importantly you can completely backup your phone. Screw it up and all you do is boot while holding down a few keys and re-flash your backup. All better.
A rooted phone will allow fixes or new ROMs to remove or work around what the factory did to block tethering. Google built Android to tether. The provider has just disabled it. May not work on all phones but it does seem to work on most.
Before rooting read carefully and follow the instructions to a T. There are several ways, so read all of them and you find a common thread. Look for the one that seems to be most favored. Read the whole thread which could run hundreds of pages. A pain but you will learn from other's mistakes.

RE: Connecting with FoxFi

Are you rooted? Doing so may help. It would allow you to freeze and app called tetherguard.apk which may be an issue. Rooting may not be your cup of tea.
