RE: Oakplantation vs Mt. Pleasant KOA in Charleston, SC

If the KOA is closer to the event, I would choose it hands down. The pool and amentites are centrally located in the KOA and the sites are much much bigger than Oak Plantation. The pool is also bigger.

RE: Last minute trip near Charlotte, NC

Even though it is popular, I don't care for Kings Mountain. Lake Wateree is much much nicer! Roads are not paved so it makes it really dusty and the sites are not very level. Hard for the kiddos to ride bikes. Dan Nicholas and Lake Wateree are great bike riding places.

RE: Last minute trip near Charlotte, NC

Lake Wateree, Jellystone Marion, Asheville East KOA, Fancy Gap KOA, Cane Creek Park, Dan Nichoals Park. All within 45min to 2 hours of charlotte. AND are KID friendly!

RE: Crown International near Charlotte, N.C.

The campground at crown is not a place I would recommend. Sites do not appear to be in good condition and it appears to be mostly workers living there. Depending on where in Fort Mill the family is, it is a little out of the way. KOA at exit 88 is a little expensive, but has a pool and some amenities as well as a Publix next door and gas station. Convenient to I-77 and major roads in Fort Mill. McDowell Park is nice, be aware of the gate closings and access after hours. Another spot not mentioned is Andrew Jackson state park in Lancaster, SC. Not to far from Fort Mill, but again it depends on where in Fort Mill you are targeting.

RE: Fancy Gap KOA this weekend

We really enjoyd it too! It was our first time there, but not our last. Only complaint was the turn out of site 58 to leave was a litle on the tight side. We liked that site, but won't pick that again due to the angle of exit. My son had a blast with all the activities. Hills were rougher on my repaired foot, so I didn't get to explore as much as I wanted too.

RE: Best Big Rig Route to Cedar Mtn NC

Don't go up 276. We did it with the pop up, friends did it with a fifth wheel. Needless to say we all went home via I-26 instead.

RE: Parking MH and Tow at NASCAR Hall of Fame, NC

I would agree with wbwood. I drive by that lot everyday also and thought it would be difficult for an RV to manuver. Even though I mentioned it earlier, looking at it today, I would not take an RV there.

RE: Parking MH and Tow at NASCAR Hall of Fame, NC

I would email or call them. You definitely will not fit in the parking garage. There is a surface lot across the street, but I am not sure if you could get in there. Or how much it would cost for that size rig. You could always park at one of the train stations and catch the light rail. Most of the stations are easy access to I-77 and have large parking lots.

RE: Annual Halloween trip to Fancy Gap VA KOA

We are not leaving carowinds area until 4:30 so won't be up till later either. I hate Charlotte traffic going north or east on a Friday night! We have the Eagle and the giant happy labrador (14 months old)

RE: Kid activities Oct 26-28

Jellystone at Riverbottom Farms in Swansea outside of Columbia has activities for Halloween. But I think they are booked. Fancy GAP KOA in VA just over the NC state line has Haloween activities and as of two days ago had sites.

RE: Annual Halloween trip to Fancy Gap VA KOA

I didn't book a specific site, Did it online just 50amp pull through and requested to be close to the playground and activities. I called and we got 58. I am sure it will be fine. I am learning to use my repaired heel. We'e close to the playground and Dog Walk, so perfect for us. Thanks for all your help. You got one of the better sites there. We went there last year and that one and a few others were our top 3. That is great to hear! Looking forward to it! Now I have to dig our the Halloween decorations we take camping!

Just getting around the campground is my concern. We booked it anyways. Sounds like a good time!

RE: Annual Halloween trip to Fancy Gap VA KOA

Is the campground really hilly for walking around? I normally don't mind, but had foot surgery 4 weeks ago and not sure how the steep hills would be on the achilles... Looks like they have 50amp pull throughs left for that weekend...

RE: Carowinds campground

The shortcut from Carowinds Blvd. to McDowell Park is as follows: Head North on Carowinds Blvd at the 3rd light go Left onto Choate Circle At the end of Choate make a left at the traffic light onto S Tryon or NC 49 Continue a few miles on NC 49 to McDowell Park.

RE: Now they're using Air Beds on Pull-Out sofas?

Ours is comfortable, but I find it can feel "clamy" in humid climates and cold in the winter. I solve it by using a flannel fitted sheet for the bottom and normal cotton sheets on top. But it is more comfortable than the old style.

RE: Jayco 328RLTS Spec's.

Do you know if the Jayco website has the most current specs? I am surprised most of the Eagles have 32.5gallon grey water tanks. Can that be correct? Seems small for an eagle.

RE: Has anyone's fifth wheel come unhitched when driving?

I guess most people would begin this story with, "This happened to a buddy of mine". But that would be a lie. It is difficult to admit but I dropped mine onto the bed of the truck about twelve years ago. I backed the truck into the fifth wheel and was headed back to secure it when a fellow camper came by to tell me good bye and brought us some homemade cookies. I got out of the truck and began talking to him and then the wives got involved in the conversation and it was 30 minutes before the hitching sequence was resumed. You can guess the rest. I raised the jacks, all the while carrying on conversation with my neighbor and then pulled out without even closing the jaws. Probably the most embarrassing moment I can remember and the noise got the attention of the entire campground. Since that day never I interrupt my hitching sequence, for anybody or any reason short of an earthquake, until it is completed. I would admit when it happens to us, but we are in the camp of too lazy to put the slider in the right spot and crushed the cab not one but TWICE!

RE: Has anyone's fifth wheel come unhitched when driving?

Thanks for all of the info. I will pass it along. The hitch is either the Reese Elite. He has no idea what happened. He tells me that he cannot slide the bar or pin in all the way in if it is not hitched properly. There is a flag that pops up. Can these pins wiggle loose or appear locked when they are not? He did say he might have had the camper too low with too much pressure on the truck when he hooked up. Could that cause an issue? The size of the hill that he traveled up has me puzzled because he should have lost it going up that hill due to the weight shifting. One more thing. He was alone when hooking up, not distracted by wife and 5 year old. No one could have pulled the handle for a prank either. I showed him the blue Ox and I think that is on his list to purchase.

Has anyone's fifth wheel come unhitched when driving?

Friends of ours dropped their fiver on the bed of the truck while making a left hand turn out of the neighborhood. We all know it can happen and does, but the mystery of this one is the following: 1) Pull test indicated everything was hooked up properly 2) He towed it 1 mile out of the neighborhood that included 4 very sharp turns, large incline and it came off turning left the fifth time out of the neighborhood. He is racking his brain trying to figure out what he did wrong. Hitch appears to be in fine working order. The shop that installed it said it is fine. It is a Reese Elite series that goes with the Ford Facotry installed rails. Any ideas where he went wrong? He knows he must have made a mistake, but can't figure out where.
