RE: Oil change

Changing the oil filter, take a Phillips screwdriver punch a hole in to the bottom and drain the filter before removal. Once the oil is out it is less messy when you remove the filter. Scooter.

RE: Mineral oil in wet cell battery

Oooo, this is fun, an electronics/electrical disagreement.
Not to put too fine a point on this discussion, transformers (aka: Inductor) do indeed 'store' energy in the form of a field. But as Daveinet wrote, for a very short time in practice. When the source current is removed, the inductance of the coil in the transformer 'opposes' that change. It wants to maintain the field. Store it, if you will.
EX: Open circuit a large relay that has a diode across it. The relay will stay closed 3-5 times longer then one without a diode.
Also, think of this: a perfect short with zero resistance is placed across a perfect coil or transformer winding at the instant the source current drops to zero. The field, theoretically, will stay there to infinity. Storing it. In the real world, with all the losses inherent in a transformer/inductor, it will collapse quickly. ;)
But, Garrett, you also are correct to point out that a transformer vs. battery debate is pointless. They differ in many fundamental ways making it an apples to oranges kind of thing.
Not disagreeing with you I just think of it differently. I don't consider it stored, to me it's just delayed disappation of energy as the field collapses.
And thanks for the backup on the apples and oranges. :)
I actually told a few electrical engineers about this convo and they laughed. One said that would explain why his truck isn't up to par, said he needed to replace the battery with a transformer.
Now that we know transformers aren't batteries back to the question of mineral Oil.THAK YOU:)

RE: Absorption refrigerator replacement ( size ? )

Other than running the genset while going down the road, does S/B 110V refer stay cold enough between stops? Two D8 battery's and converter will do the job just fine.

Absorption refrigerator replacement ( size ? )

My fridge is now 15 years old and failure is almost inevitable. I am looking to replace it with a house (refrigerant type ) refrigerator. Having a hard time finding a size that will fit in the opening. 54 1/2 high, 23 wide and 24 deep. I'm hoping some one can give me an idea where I could find one.
Thanks Scooter.

RE: 8D battery question

12.4v for a month when disconnected does not seem bad.
When using the rig, does the battery voltage read higher?
What time in service has the battery accumulated.
I practice the "do not fix unless it won't work" style with batteries.
We carry enough batteries on these rigs to get out of an emergency pinch. So when the battery boost switch becomes a routine, I look at replacing the chassis battery.
The battery is 3 years and 3 months old,two days after a full charge, the battery completely disconnected she drops down to 12.4 volts.

Have you checked the chassis battery for phantom draw?I have a knife switch on it , therefore it is completely disconnected.

8D battery question

My 8D chassis battery seems to settle down at about 12.4 volts and stays there for a good month, the house batterys keep a constant 12.7V. Am I looking at my chassis battery going bad or is it just the characteristics of this particular one.
Tanks Scooter.

RE: Michelin Tires

I seen this on here awhile back where a member belonged to fmca club or something like that and got a big discount. anybody know more about this? I,ll need tires next yr and will stick with the mich brand.
Find a Michelin dealer and tell him you are a FMCA member. If he is familiar with the program, he will tell you how it works. I just purchased a set of XZE's 255/80/R22.5 for $469.56 plus taxes @. 15 minutes and the whole deal was done.

RE: Michelin Tires

OK, the dealer told me the XRV's were on backorder and there was a 2 month wait, he recommended the XZE as being a stronger tire. So,I guess I will go for the XZE's which are actually a few bucks cheaper.
Thanks Scooter.
