RE: Using Propane Tank for External Grill

No reason why you can't unscrew the tank and use it. Your water heater shouldn't have a pilot but rather be electronic ignition so no worrries.

RE: Reece SC vs. Reece Dual Cam

I noticed your trailer is probably about 32 feet long. I bought the SC on the dealers advice and have had some sway issues. I contacted etrailer via email and was told that system is not sufficient for a trailer as long as mine. (34' hitch to bumper) I am in the process of converting to the DC as we speak to hopefully eliminate my issues.

RE: air compressor for winterizing.

I have used the HF compressor for the last two years and have got along great. I found a coupon for it somewhere and paid 39.00. I use it for airing up tires and light air nailer work occasionaly. Great compressor for just a little $!

RE: Why Antifreeze if no water?

I'll tell you a story of three trailers kept within a ten mile radius in North Texas. One uses the air only method, one uses air and pink stuff, and one does nothing other than draining tanks, low point drains, and leaving thermostat on heater set at 40 degrees F on nights expected to be below freezing. In four years, none of them have suffered any damage. The trailer that uses heat consumes about two tanks a winter but that owner considers it a small price because he camps over the holidays where as the owners of the other two just winterize until Spring. I say do whatever you are comfortable with. I do use the pink stuff, have no trouble clearing the lines in the Spring, and sleep good on those occasional dark cold winter nights.

RE: Reese snap up brackets

I have never bent mine but it does happen Me too. I don't understand how it happens, mine have been fine but I guess some have bad luck with them. If you already have the standard ones I would give them a chance though. I emailed etrailer.com and they said tongue weights under 1000 lbs should be fine with the standard brackets so we will see how it goes. Thanks for all the replies.

Reese snap up brackets

I am in the process of upgrading my hitch to the dual cam model. I intend to get it finished over the winter. I have been buying the components a few at a time to stay somewhat on a budget. With all of the recent conversations regarding the standard vs the heavy duty snap up brackets, would I be better off to buy the heavy duty brackets up front or stay with the standard ones (which I have already purchased) and see how I get along? Thanks

RE: Priorities

Recently had a chat with some folks who are diehard animal rights activists. They were taking some offense to my statement that when I'm at highway speed towing a 6k lb camper, I will not swerve to avoid a cat/chipmunk/squirrel. "Oh but you should swerve, that's a living thing!" Yeah, so are the 4 PEOPLE in the truck with me that could be hurt in a rollover!! :S Apparently that's one of those things where I'm gonna have to agree to disagree with them. Perhaps they just don't understand the physics of a hardcore swerve at 60mph w/ a 25' camper.... Hold up...Let me get the popcorn. This is going to get good!:B

RE: Progressive Industries EMS

If you intend to ugrade to a 50 amp service for your trailer in the future, buy the 50 amp unit NOW and save the money on purchasing another one in the future. All you have to do, if you buy the remote unit, is to put a 50 amp to 30 amp pigtail between the EMS unit and your present 30 amp trailer connector and ignore the error code(s) that implies that one leg is missing power. I had been using mine that way. If you buy the hard wired unit, I am GUESSING that you can connect your present 30 amp cord to one leg and it will still work with the same error codes showing. If not just jumper a wire across the two input terminals and another across the two ouput terminals of the EMS unit and everything should work as designed. The issues are: 50 amp unit costs a little more than the 30 amp unit, the extra 50 to 30 amp pigtail, and the 50 amp unit is heavier and larger than the 30 amp unit. LeRoy Thanks LeRoy. YOur reply was what I was hoping to hear in an effort to not buy two seperate systems. I might just send a quick email to Progressive and get their thoughts.

Progressive Industries EMS

My trailer is a 30 amp unit but I may want to upgrade to a 50 amp unit sown the road. Is a 50 amp EMS specific to a 50 amp trailer or would it just be overkill for a 30 amp unit and then switched over to the 50 amp trailer later?

What type of wax?

It's about time to wax my 2011 Chevy 2500 HD. I have used the Nu Finish product in years past on other vehicles but am reluctant to use it on this truck because it has alot of black plastic trim. What wax would be a good alternative that would not discolor the plastic?

RE: Maxxis tires

Just had a set of Maxxis 225/75/15's installed today for $470.00. They had to order them because they don't stock Maxxis at all. While they were being put on I asked what DID they stock for trailers and it was some Chinese something or rather I've never heard of. He said installed price for those would have only been 50 bucks cheaper. I had NO idea the price difference was so little. Not sure why anyone would run anything else, especially when the savings isn't there! Just my opinion. Wow! I would like to know where you got them. I just looked at Discount Tire and they are quoting about $750.00 for the same four tires.:h

RE: Tonneau covers

I have the Truxedo and really like it. I added an additional piece of weatherstripping along the front side to accomodate my rail caps. I drove through remnants of tropical storm Debbie in Florida over the summer. The wind was very strong but everything under the cover remained 100% dry!

RE: Hitch problem - Can't disconnect!(UPDATE)

This may sound stypid but I had a similar problem when I first got my trailer. Is the locking mechanism pushed all the way to the back and locked in the closest position to the front of the trailer? I merely released mine and did not lock it back and it would not release until I did. Hope this helps.

RE: Dimming a skylight

I used a piece of rigid plastic and the cut and glued a piece of reflectix foil slightly smaller than the plastic. I then removed the screws that hold the trim piece of the skylight and replaced them with mirror hanging clips. The plastic with the foil slips right into the clips and is easily removed for showers or in the fall/winter when the light is beneficial.

RE: Tripod for Direct TV dish

Been using the tv4rv setup now the last couple times camping. Works Great! An old-timer stopped by my site yesterday as I was setting the dish up, and said "Good luck with that, I cant ever get it aimed correctly." Was setup in 20 minutes. Aiming has been much easier for me since I put an app on DW's smartphone that shows exactly where, in the sky, the satellites actually are. It normally shows all the satellites, but I instructed it to show only the three I aim for (110, 119, 129). I then cover the outer two LNBs with foil, aim and fine tune for 119, remove the foils and I'm set (after running 'check switch' again, of course). Makes it much easier to locate where I want to place the tripod, too. The app I got was $20 but I think there are similar apps for less available. Phil Great idea! I would like to know what that app is. Is it for iphone or droid platform?

RE: Roof Vents

I have the Maxxaire covers as well and leave the vents open when in storage. However, I left them open last trip while towing and found that the one in the bathroom had enough draw going down the road to pull some odors out of the black tank so I closed that one on the way home. The one in the front of the trailer was left open and I had no odors when I got back. Just an observation...
