RE: air compressor for inflating tires

I have the VIAIR 400P portable compressor. I think max output is 150 psi. I routinely use it to air up my tires to about 115 psi. I've had it for over six years now with no problems at all. If you buy one, be sure to get the inline guage/hose that has the right pressure range for your needs. I think the standard guage is a 100 psi guage. I upgraded it to a VIAIR inline guage with a higher max pressure.

RE: Portable air compressor

I have a VIAIR 400P Portable Air Compressor that is very compact, comes in a nice canvas carrying bag with a coiled 30 ft. inline guage/air hose. Max Pressure is 150 psi and I routinely use it up to 115-120 psi. I've had mine for about 6 years now with no problems at all. Check it out. If you decide to buy one, check around for the best price. I've seen quite a variation in prices for this thing. I think VIAIR also makes a 300P model which may be adequate for your needs. Good luck.

RE: RV driving route map website??

Good Sam has a pretty good trip route planner on its website. After you type in your start point and destination they give you the option of putting in some route planning preferences such as "avoiding low clearances" or marking the location of certain RV related businesses along your route. Check it out.

RE: Convection Ovens

We did just the opposite of what you're proposing. We liked the microwave/convection oven that came with our RV so much, we bought the exact same model for our home. You shouldn't have any problem.

RE: Trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco

X2 on kalynzoo's recommendations. You might also consider Wine Country RV Resort on HWY 46 in Paso Robles as a base camp for that area and Coyote Valley RV Resort on HWY 101 just south of San Jose as a stopover point.

RE: Long Class A rigs with Trailers - Where do they stay?

We pull an enclosed car trailer behind our motorhome. Not as big as the ones you describe, but our total length is about 60 ft. A useful reference I learned about on this forum is a directory called Big Rigs Best Bets (www.big-rigs-rv.com). The authors have personally visited all the campgrounds described and give specific site numbers and the maximum lengths they can handle. Check it out.

RE: Private Campground on the Beach in So. Calif?

We've stayed at Ventura Beach RV Resort. Nice grounds with social activities for kids and adults. Its across the HWY 101 from the beach, but there are good walking and bike paths from the campground to the beach. Road noise from the HWY is an issue for some folks, but if you get a site a few rows back from the highway, its not bad.

RE: California water front rv parks

Check out Newport Dunes RV Resort in Newport Beach, CA. Pricey, but Big Rig Friendly with nice waterfront area and its own marina.
In San Diego, check out Campland on the Bay. They have a waterfront area and small marina on Mission Bay. Campground office seems to oversee the marina.
There is also Chula Vista RV Resort which has a back gate out to the Chula Vista Marina. You'd have to call them to see what's possible in terms boat launch and mooring options.

RE: Stockton Ca... nearby.. monthly?

X3 on all the previously recommended campgrounds: French Camp off HWY 99 in Manteca, Stockton Delta KOA (formerly Tower Resort)and Flag City are both close to I-5 in Lodi. I've stayed at all three. They are all convenient to Stockton. I would check them all out and see which location you like the best, which is closest & easiest commute to where she's doing her internship, and which one gives you the best rate. Of the three I think French Camp is closest to everyday conveniences like supermarkets, shopping malls, restaurants, etc.

RE: Astoria OR. to L.A. best route and what to see

One suggestion is to consider Wine Country RV Resort in Paso Robles as a base camp for a couple of day trips into Hearst Castle & Big Sur areas with your TOAD. Its big-rig friendly and located on HWY 46 right near where it intersects HWY 101. There are also numerous excellent wineries with tasting rooms and interesting tours in close proximity to the RV park. We especially enjoyed Eberle Winery & the Tobin James winery. Firestone Brewery is also close by and offers tours & tastings. The food at their restaurant was also pretty good.
When you're ready to move on to your next destination you're conveniently located near HWY 101 or you can head back east to I-5. Check it out.

RE: Hitch ?

I pull an enclosed car trailer with about 750 lbs. tongue weight and 7000 lbs. total weight behind my motor home. I have the 1,000/10,000 Equalizer hitch and am very pleased with the performance both on road and in tight maneuvering situations. Be sure to do the initial set-up properly and carefully. Involves putting a series of washers in the head assembly to get just the right tilt angle for your tow vehicle so that the hitch and trailer ride level when towing. Good luck.

RE: Pismo Beach to Bakersfield

You might look at 101 north to 46 east to 99. My recollection is that the grades aren't too bad and there are also some good re-fueling spots along the way.

RE: what is best trip router to use

Good Sam website offers trip routing. Lets you select or de-select a bunch of options about what you want included in the "route" for your trip. You can ask to avoid low over-passes, ask to have info about fueling included or not, etc. Check it out.

RE: Do Toad's Really Get Beat Up Back There? Looking at new CR-V

We've towed a Jeep Wrangler behind our DP for many thousands of miles. Over time we've got some road rash (small pitting/chips in the paint on the very front of the vehicle) probably from grit kicked up by the motor home. We don't use any kind of protective device, but I think the guards/shields described by other posters would adequately protect your vehicle. You might even buy a "bra" for the toad. IMHO the greater wear and tear to the toad is the scrubbing of the tires and stress/strain on the front suspension when you pull the front of the vehicle around in tight maneuvering situations. The Jeep is pretty rugged and seems to be able to take it. You might ask other owners of Hondas and similar toads if they've experienced any problems in those areas.

RE: Tires - Any good deals for 22.5's in San Diego???

Check out Pete's Tires & Road Service in Escondido. www.petesrs.com They have several locations in Southern California and seem to handle a lot of the commercial vehicles as well as RVs. I bought some tires from them recently for my DP. They seemed to have multiple options available at different price points. I was very satisfied with the purchase.

RE: Hwy 101 Fuel

X2 on the Truck Stop west side of 101 in Paso Robles a little North of where 46 intersects the 101. Easy in and Out. There is also a small truck stop right in Buellton just up the street (North) of Pea Soup Andersons. I think the name of the street is Avenue of Flags. Exit ramp from 101 south goes right in front of the station.

RE: Air Compressor

X2 on the VIAIR 400P. I've had mine for over 5 years now. Well made. Works great. Comes with 30 ft. coiled hose with an inline pressure guage. Jumper cable type connectors clamp directly to the vehicle's 12v battery. I originally bought the VIAIR for airing up the tires on my previous motorhome. My new motorhome needs higher tire pressure. Original gauge didn't go high enough. I called the manufacturer and they sold me a replacement hose and inline guage that goes up to about 150 psi. Very satisified with the product.

RE: washing rubber roof

I use a small section of clothesline and tie the hose nozzle to the handle of my water bucket. The weight of the soapy water in the bucket is enough to hold the hold the hose in place. By the way, I put soap in my bucket while I'm still down on the ground, but do not fill it with water until I'm up on the roof. Saves a lot of heavy lifting.

RE: Interested in the Trinity Alps and Redwoods area , info

We stay at Trinity Lake KOA in Trinity Center for a couple of weeks every summer. Full service campground on the lake with its own marina. Sites are varied in terms of roominess, but I think they should be able to accommodate you. Best route in is HWY 299 from Redding to Weaverville, then north on Rte 3 to Trinity Center. Exit out the same route. Check it out.

RE: Trailer towing

I pull a similar sized enclosed car trailer behind my motor home with no problems. I am very satisfied with my "Equalizer" brand 4 pt weight distributing hitch. Works well on the road and especially in tight maneuvering and backing situations. If you haven't already purchased your trailer, I would recommend ordering it with an an extended tongue. Helps avoid pinching the front of the trailer against the back corner of the motor home in tight maneuvering and backing situations. Good luck.
