RE: GS Camping Directory

We are now back at the stick house in Washburn and still no directory. I sent our TX address to no avail and thought maybe it had been forwarded here in Washburn. I am beginning to believe it is $10 down the tube. Since the merger with CW I definetly see a decrease in service including my Road Assistance.
Enough rant, have a good summer.

RE: Zion and Bryce Canyon

We stayed in Cedar City. A drive to Bryce, but we found lots of interesting stuff along the way. Can't remember name of campground, but if we went back would stay at the KOA. Spacious sites, friendly folks, and same price as the other less desirable CG. How do I know, we had to go to the KOA to do the wash. Spent 2 weeks in Cedar City and busy everyday for two weeks.

RE: New Orleans- KOA or Bayou Segnette???

We are presently at the KOA. Finally day of a week stay and it is not your normal KOA. Nice staff and spacious sites. The free shuttle into town is a free tour of the area. Good WI-FI.

RE: Wisconsin Dells -June

Fox Hill CG is where we stayed with our grandkids. South of the Dells about 12 miles and close to Baraboo. Nice pool and spacious sites. Large play area in middle of park and it seemed kids naturally joined together in activities. Be sure to visit World Circus Museum with an actual circus performance.

RE: New orleons rv park near the zoo

We are now at New Orleans West KOA. Only 10 miles from the zoo. Has a free shuttle uptown. Friendly informative staff. The shuttle is a historical tour in itself. We are not normally fans of KOAs, but this is the exception. Spacious sites, good WI-FI, and cable. Will definitely stay again if in the area.

RE: Your three favorite vacation days

Let's see I retired Sept, 1998,DW retired in Jan, 2005 and we became longtimers so far visiting all 49 continental states. Since then the three best retired vacation days have been: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow.

GS Camping Directory

Doesn't appear to be a forum for this question so will put it here. Early this past fall the 2013 GS Camping Directory was ordered in advance of publication. Directory was to be ready for delivery fright after the start of the new year. Wondering what the status of order is and when can I expect delivery.

RE: Need recommendations for where to stay

Hadley's Point in Bar Harbor. Has 10 FHU, rest are water/electric. Two strong points: bus route starts in campground then to city. Can't beat it as Bar Harbor streets are narrow and parking is at a premium. Also only a quarter mile away is the Traveling Lobster Man. In season will deliver to the CG but then driving the short distance and watching the operation in his garage is a lesson in itself. We sayed there in 2007.
As to Boston we stayed at Minute Man CG in Littleton and would recommend it. Was a 40 minute drive to subway, but only about 10 minutes to train station into city. Good location to see the area around Boston, Salem, Lowell, and other historical sites. Skip Cheers as a big disappointment.

RE: I am seeking advice on a place to winter in McAllen, Texas

Jimtoo is right go down a week or two ahead of your work gig and search out parks. I could only find 3 or 4 listed for McAllen under campgrounds on RV.net. Mission has about 60 parks so your choices are unlimited. This will be our 5th yr in Oleander Acres in Mission.

RE: things to do in Austin

We were staying in San Antonio when we visited Austin. We are history buffs, so. Visit the LBJ Museum, the State Capital. We ate lunch, on recommendation from gals at Museum, at the Iron Works. We were not disappointed. Have a safe and good visit.

We stayed at Stage Coach RV Park this past April. Nice park no pool, but it did have a free shuttle to shows. Is a Passport America park with no limit on days or time.

RE: Advice On Purchase

The more important question is "Which dealer for service would you recommend?" You will find everyone has their bias to one manufacturer or another, but they are usually very blunt about the service they recieve from their dealer.
A good friend and a member of our RV Club each have a Big Country by Heartland and they have had issues with the unit and the dealer. We are on our second Montana and our RV Club president is on his first which is a Big Sky. He previously had two Cougers by Keystone from the same dealer and was happy with the dealer service. We are both happy with our units and the dealer.
You are looking at a 3 slide, 50 amp, two air conditioners for New Orleans, 34-37 footer, and a one ton diesel truck.

RE: Amana Colonies (Iowa) question

We have been to Amana Colonies RV Park for the Iowa Good Sam Samboree the past two years. This was the last week of June. Traffic is very light and I would not hesitate to bike the roads you mention. The individual colonies are approxiately 6-7 apart so would not be a hard ride. Best eating is in Amana Colony. Great brewery. Lots of interesting museums and tourist sites. Reasonably priced for a tourist trap.

RE: Gouldings disappointment

When we stayed at Gouldings I can't recall the site we had but I do remember the beauty of Monument Valley and the views surrounding the park. Quit worrying about which is the best site and enjoy what you came to see. I don't recall spending that much time at the campsite anyway.

RE: Where to stay - Bryce and Zion Natl Pks

We stayed in Cedar, UT when we visited Bryce and Zion. We did not stay at the KOA, but had to go there to do wash. We have an aversion to KOA's, but would highly recommend this one as it had nice sized sites and friendly owners. The location required we drive about an hour to Bryce and about 45 minutes to Zion, but diesel was a lot cheaper then.
Driving that much we got to see a lot more sites in the area then staying at the respective parks. There is a lot more to see in the area then the parks. Have a good summer.

RE: Becoming a Good Sam Park?

No GS parks near our members and to make things simple and not end up having a WagonMaster set up a gathering far-far away we limit our distance to 200 mile radius of Mellen, WI.
Personally I'll stay at a GS park whenever the opportunity arises.
