RV Covers, good / bad? School me

I have a 32 foot class a and live in wisconsin. I have seen a couple rv covers on ebay and was just wndering if anyone has any experience with them. Rather than paying $500 to store the thing at the fairgrounds, I would like to just keep it on my property. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Class-A-RV-Motorhome-Travel-Trailer-Storage-Cover-Fit-30-33-Feet-Long-122-H-/290739196766?pt=Motors_RV_Trailer_Camper_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43b168135e&vxp=mtr This the one I was looking at. Problems with mold or moisture?

New foam for bed and cushions on the cheap?

My father in law got a good deal on a coleman pop up. Got it home and realized why. The foam cushions have a nasty odor that he cant clean. they washed the covers and the foam several times. Anyone know a cheap place to get some foam rather that paying hundreds from coleman?

RE: Melted extension cord? Please help, what caused this?

The 30A is 110V; just a big a$$ version of a regular outlet. Just think of it as a bigger "pipe" allowing more electricity to get from one place to the other. Todd Perfect thanks

RE: Melted extension cord? Please help, what caused this?

I wish I could just get a big ass thick 110v cord, rather that having to put a 30 amp plug on my house. Thoughts?

So what gauge should I get?

My AC draws way less than 12 amps. I can run the AC, converter and water pump on a 15 amp circuit as long as the conpressor on the AC is already running when using the water pump. And no, your house wiring is not going to melt. That is what the circuit breakers are for. And they do a fine job of it too. THAT KINDA FREAKED ME OUT FOR A MINUTE

RE: Melted extension cord? Please help, what caused this?

Bottom line........Those cords are too small to run an RV a/c unit. You need a 30 amp service to safely run an RV with the a/c on, and those cords are only rated at 15 amps. I know you've been getting away with it, but since you posted this photo of the melted wire end.....you really didn't. Even if you get a bigger cord, you are still likely plugging into a 15 amp receptacle at your house. Getting a bigger cord will keep it from happening again to your extension cord, but just cause it next time to melt the wire inside the walls of your house, possibly burning your house down. Electrical wiring circuits are like a chain.....no matter how big the chain is, it is only as strong as its weakest link. There may have been a loose connection there that contributed to this as well as others have said, but the basic moral of the story here is the wires are not heavy enough to safely do what you are asking of it. Yikes

If it is too small, how come it only did it this once? I have left that thing run for days on the cord before with no issues. Maybe it was a combination of small cord and bad connection?

RE: Melted extension cord? Please help, what caused this?

I'm going to disagree with everyone... It isn't that the cord was too small, there was a loose connection AT THE PLUG. The loose connection resulted in arcing, heat from the arcing melted the molded plug end. The cord could have been 1/0 and the plug would have still melted. A 15A plug is rated at 15A constant load, just like the 15A breaker that was feeding the outlet that the cord was plugged in to. There wasn't an overload condition, just a loose connection. I do agree with having heavier extension cords. A 12ga cord is good, a 10ga is great. As load increases over a run, the resistance in the wire (even small resistance) will cause the voltage to drop. The size of cord, wire gauge, depends on the load and length of the cord. With nothing else running in the trailer, you could run most AC units on a 50ft 12ga cord without too much voltage loss, with the assumption that you don't have low house voltage to begin with. This could be why it never happened all summer till now.

Melted extension cord? Please help, what caused this?

I was taking a nap with the AC on and plugged into the porch outlet at my house, just like I have all summer with no issues. My wife started screaming Fire, I ran out and the cord was red hot and looked like this. There is a ground fault thing on the outlet that never tripped. The ac was working fine and was on for only an hour or so. We have had it running for days at a time with no issues. I am clueless and am freaked out. Any help would be great. Do i need a bigger extension cord? http://i694.photobucket.com/albums/vv302/Baileigh_Industrial/2012-07-15184916.jpg
