Health insurance

Dh and I are looking into health insurance for the next 6 mos. WE've received quotes from $1500 a mo with a $9500 deductible for each to $3500 a month for our current coverage.
I just got a quote for Assurant for only $850 a mo. It all sounds waaay too good to be true. I've read a lot of complaints online.
Is anyone insured with them and how do you really like them.
(I'm of the philosophy that if something sounds too good to be true, they are.)

RE: Turnips

Raw is best. I've never eaten a cooked turnip. I just peel, slice, and give them a light sprinkle of salt.

RE: Cranky nasty distant relative... long vent

We were in a similar situation with my fil about 8 yrs ago. After he flooded his house, causing major ($$$$) damage for the second time, we were able to place him in a home. His home wasn't livable due to the flood damage.
We were lucky that he had taken out long term care insurance. He was able to stay there until he died a few years ago.
The Alzheimer's was a horrible illness. He didn't remember anyone. He ended up dying from Lou Gehrig's disease a few years ago.
The only advice I can offer is to look for the humor in every situation. It was the only thing that kept me sane.

RE: Help I am gagging

I love Greek yogurt and eat a bowl every morning for breakfast. I buy the fat-free, unflavored and add my own fruit.
I found that if I zap the fruit in the microwave for 10-15 secs, 20-25 for frozen fruit, that it flavors the yogurt a bit more. I don't add any type of sweetner, just the fruit.

RE: Ugh!! It's Time To Lose Weight Again

I started WW just before Christmas and have managed to get rid of 35 lbs so far. I would love to get rid of another 50.

RE: Grapefruit surplus

I love grapefruit, but can no longer eat it due to meds. I can't wait to get off of them.
I like the marmalade idea.

RE: Going to the hospital carries risk.

A pediatrician's office is the worst. They generally have all sorts of toys and books for the kids to play with while waiting. I always brought our own toys for my kids and do the same for my grandkids.
My gf's 97 yo grandmother recently hospitalized after a fall. The lady in the bed next to her had the flu. Yep, her grandmother and her 80 yr mother both ended up with the flu.

RE: When you are hard boiling eggs... don't get distracted!

Yeah, I did the egg trick about 30 yrs ago. I can't believe the mess of a dozen eggs all over the kitchen.
(A few years ago, I turned on the faucet in the upstairs laundry room and got involved on rv.net. 20 mins later, I had $20k in damages to my house.)

RE: Cat peeing everywhere

The pee pads worked great for awhile.
I woke up one morning to find that cat #2 was stumbling and had issues with her back legs. I took both to a vet who assured me it was time to let both go. It was a very hard, but both went very peacefully.

RE: Totally appalled at the Pomona RV show today

OP, I understand what you are saying. I don't think it is something I would have done with my grandchildren. But then again, I operated a daycare for 28 yrs and know that littles don't always think before acting.

RE: electric ice tea maker and best brand tea

I'll admit it, I'm an iced tea junkie. Iced tea is about all I drink in the summer months.
I always make a two gallon pitcher of sun tea in a glass pitcher with a spigot at the bottom.
I will probably catch a lot of flack over this, but I've experimented with literally hundreds of different teas to find the best one for iced tea, and I keep returning back to Walmart's "Great Value" teabags. About 12 teabags to two gallons sitting in the sun all day makes for the most perfect iced tea.
Occasionally, I will kick it up a notch by steeping 11 Great Value teabags and one single Tazo Spearmint teabag for just a hint of mint under the nose in my tea.
One other tea I really like to use for iced tea is a Celestial Seasonings Madagascar Vanilla Roobios. Heaven in a glass, but a bit more expensive to brew on a regular basis.
Also, if you do sun tea, be sure to cool it properly. If you brew and then just toss it in the fridge, the tea will be a bit harsh, possibly bitter, and for sure cloudy as the tannins in the tea separate out of the water. You need to bring it inside, allow it to cool to room temperature, and from there, into the fridge.
You can also brew it in the fridge. IMHO, it tastes just as good, if not better. You just put the water and tea bags in the fridge and leave overnight.

RE: I think DW has lost it...

When I was a little kid, Mondays and Tuesdays were days to NOT annoy Mom. Monday was wash day and drying on the line in the back yard. Then my Dad's white shirts had to have starch applied to the collars and cuffs. Tuesday was ironing day. Everything that had to be ironed was dampened and rolled up. Then a little later, she would unroll each item, put it on the ironing board, plug in the iron and start. If I'd ever broken a leg on Tuesday, I knew to limp until Wednesday. My Dad knew to walk softly on Tuesdays as well.
I remember the bags of laundry in the fridge after being washed, dried, and sprinkled. I never understood the purpose of drying the clothes, then sprinkling them until damp again, then ironing. Why not just iron them when wet the first time, or dry them part way. No, I do not own an iron.

RE: 3 ingredient biscuit recipe

I will make some this evening to make sure I remember the recipe right.
I seem to think it's 3 C of self rising flour, 1 C heavy cream, and 1 cup of orange soda. I add the peel of 1 orange finely grated, and a handful of mini chocolate chips. I very lightly mix the ingredients together, adding a bit more flour if needed. Then I dump it onto a cutting board and gently pat it out. I cut it into triangles with a floured pizza cutter and bake at 350* until done. (I don't remember the time.)

RE: Looking at getting new Equinox - experiences

My sister loves her Equinox. It's fairly comfortable on long trips. I've made 4 trips with her between TX and CA. She's happy with the gas mileage. We haven't seemed to have any power issues. So far, she's only had routine oil changes on it.
