RE: New Toyota Tundra in 2014

Actually it will be interesting to see what they come up with or if it will be business as usual. I would like to see them add more payload. We'll see if they do as that's the one area where they lag a bit behind.
I'm curious if the "Big 3" 1/2's Payload will go down when they have to adopt the new guidelines that Toyota has already adopted...I doubt Toyota will bring theirs up if they aren't changing the drivetrain which is the word on the Toyota forums.

RE: New Toyota Tundra in 2014

On the original point before the good ol' boy hicks popped in this thread...the redesign by my understanding is appearance based with little or no change in the drive train. Also Toyota is making a hybrid engine for the Tundra...guess they aren't going the 1-Ton route fellers.
If I needed a 1-ton I would have one but instead I wanted a reliable 1/2 ton...hence my Tundra :-)

RE: Are you an RV prepper?

Wouldn't it be nice if the mindset of the "preppers" was to help thy neighbor instead of keep what's mine and plan to shoot anyone who tries to take it away? Sad the society we live in! My neighborhood came up with a disaster plan and listed all the resources and skills of our neighbors and to me this tool is much more powerful than any crazy guy with a bomb shelter and an arsenal.
I like some of the previous posts about if it's my time then take me because my God is waiting with open arms--AMEN!

RE: Portland OR.

In my experience the traffic is usually cleared up pretty good by 1000. Of course if there's a wreck that's a different story. At that time I'd probably just take whichever freeway is most convenient.

RE: Air Bags or WD Hitch

I use both on my Tundra and I actually feel the air bags DO have use for pulling a travel trailer. The air bags stiffen up the rear for me and I don't have that soft spongy feel to the back end I used to on more rough roads. I never had a visible sag in the rear so I didn't get my airbags for that at all.
I personally wouldn't tow anything of any weight without a WDH...makes all the difference in the world. My airbags are just nice to have...not necessary.
I've been happy with my Equilizer hitch but if money was no object I would probably have a Propride setup (very expensive).

RE: Shower in your camper!!!!

FYI, I in no way meant it was ok (except for filming me...heck, I'll even wag it for ya!)...I was speaking about the paranoia that these stories bread in some parents. If we shelter our kids too much they will not no how to tackle creeps, or drugs, or sex, when it does come up.
I hope they catch the sicko that did this but I can't expect every bathroom to have a camera in it now...and I hope ya'll don't either.

RE: Who would do this.....an RVer????

...If they are healthy enough to be driving a trailer into the Costco parking lot and walking around the store, they can park away from desired spots--especially for the handicapped.
So, are you a doctor? It would take a really good one to make a diagnosis without examining the patient or even seeing the patient.
Asinine statements like this make my blood boil! Anyone who can drive a car can drive an RV. I'm handicapped and drive an F150 screw. I wish I had a dollar for every idiot that told me if I can drive a truck that big, I'm not handicapped. The fact is, it is usually much easier for me to get in and out of that truck than a small car.
No, but I play one on TV...lol...give me a break I was speaking about someone like my 84 year-old grandmother who wouldn't even attempt to drive a large van let a lone a Class C...oh and she doesn't drive at night and wouldn't attempt to walk around Costco.
BTW I am a trama nurse and in no way would ever attempt to disrespect or downplay handicapped people...I take care of them when they first become injured or paralyzed. Now who is making judgements?
Do you block 3 handicapped spots at the front of stores with your rig? I'm betting not...and for you to defend the practice, to me is ASININE :-)

RE: Who would do this.....an RVer????

Well without knowing where the vehicle was registered we really don't know what Identification for use of handicapped parking was appropriate. Some places use license plates, others use mirror tags or even stickers.
Funny how as this thread progesses the Class C MH seems to have become a trailer and the operator was walking around in the store.
...If they are healthy enough to be driving a trailer into the Costco parking lot and walking around the store, they can park away from desired spots--especially for the handicapped.
You are right I misspoke when I said "trailer" and I don't know they were walking around the store I was merely speculating, but I don't think it's right to block 3 spots when there are others available and I'm pretty sure there are no states with a handicapped sticker that allows for multiple spots at a time.
I'm surprised so many people say things like "there must be a reason"...it is the law. Do you say that after someone speeds through an intersection and hits you or nearly hits you? Do you say "Well, they must have been in a hurry for some reason"...come on!

RE: Who would do this.....an RVer????

Pretty sure in my state (WA) it's over $200 fine for parking in a handicap spot without proper documentation--this person should get that for each spot they blocked.

RE: Shower in your camper!!!!

For me film away, I don't care but it would bother me if my daughter was being filmed and someone was "enjoying" it. Still, fear of being filmed would not motivate me to keep my kids out of public bathrooms. We can't put them in a bubble and protect them from everything.

RE: Earthbound TT - really nice but why so much $$$?

One of the dealers I've worked with quit carrying the Earthbound brand because they required a lot of warranty work and the company did not like to pay their bills. Said dealer started to carry the Evergreen brand as their higher end travel trailers (they also carry Airstream).
Personally I love the look of the Earthbound's but there aren't any dealers in the NW and the more I researched the more terrible reviews I found.
I'd definitely look into the Element or Airstream instead.

RE: extra battery??

If all you are worried about is short power outages your one battery will be fine. But, if you get a second battery you might be more inclined to dry camp for a weekend or two. I have two 6V batteries and I can comfortably dry camp for 4 days...and this with watching movies occasionally (I also have a small solar panel).

Maybe I'm missing something but with the tape idea wouldn't it depend on exactly where your head and eyes are? If you moved your head just an inch or two seems like your line would be off by multiple feet...

RE: First Aid Kit

I agree with most of the advice above but I would add if you have a way to keep it in your tow vehicle it would be even more readily available. Just realize that in either the conditions are not ideal--meds get hotter than they should and bandages etc degrade faster...just keep an eye on it closer than you would with one stored in a bathroom at home.

RE: Why the diesel tank

OK..so why don't gassers have them as well? Just wondering...
Because it's illegal in most states to transport gasoline in an aux tank.
Now THAT makes sense...something to do with combustibility maybe?

RE: Next silly question ...

Actually I usually exaggerate the length...he he
Had to do it, I know some were thinking it...
I usually refer to my trailer as 32' even though the total length is 32.2"...interestingly my model number is 32 RBK-DS, I guess Evergreen names their models in reference to their total length. All manufacturers are definitely different.
