We use that route but generally during the off season. Tried Lums Pond, ok but just not in the right spot. Tried parks in Bowling Green and not impressed at all. Have used Kings Dominion, first exit south on 95 if you use 206 to get back to 95. Good overnight stop.
We're 30 minutes down the road from you and I'll push the first day and stay at South Fourty just south of Richmond. Leaves 2 easy drive days from there to Florida.

Thanks I think Ashland may be the easiest spot to stay, been there before on our return trips.

If you are going across the Delaware Mem Bridge, there is a cg in NJ at exit 18 on 295 - Timberlane. That might be too close to your start point, but there is really nothing along 301 in Del or Maryland. There is a cg just north of Richmond on I 95 - Ashland - now a KOA, I believe. If you plan to hook onto 95 this cg is just about 10 miles from 301/95.

Lums Pond State Park in Delaware is probably as close as you're going to get there. There are also a couple campgrounds right before Richmond. We leave from Jersey and usually stop at Carolina Crossroads in Roanoke Rapids, NC
We are in upstate NY in the Lake George region,(1 hour north of Albany) so I don't think we could make it to Roanoke Rapids.

How far off 301 are you thinking? There isn't one I would consider convenient off that hwy without some extra driving...
Not sure, haven't driven this route in many years but use to in our car, before the RV.
We have taken the route down through to the Bay Bridge Tunnel and over to 95 or stay south on 17 stopping in NC and Savannah then over to 95.
We also have gone down 88 to 81 and pick up 95 usually in Va.
On our way north this year we went up 81 then 88, some of the stretches of road were so rough I literally felt like bobblehead that I have had neck and shoulder pain for two weeks.
I felt it was important to find a new way to go.

Looking for a RV park on 301
Either in Delaware or Maryland going south. We will be heading south in late October and we don't usually take this route but would like to.
Need an overnight stop somewhere off 301, will eventually get over to get back on I-95 south north of Richmond.
Thanks for any and all suggestions.

There is a good REASON for that. Heading to the gulf coast during hot weather months is not MY idea of a fun place to be :)
"They" told me that June is the busiest month of the year for tourists in Florida. Must be some people willing to "Go south" in the summer. Historically, people went to the coast in the summers to cool off and enjoy the beaches.
We're on the Gulf Coast from Nov.1st to May 1st every year and I would love to be there 12 months a year...I love the hot weather and I love to swim in the Gulf of Mexico...the water is delish!

RE: Memorial Day weekend, where will you be?
Don't go on the holidays...snowbird for 6 1/2 months so we enjoy our home and the pool and the quiet in the backyard for the summer.
Enjoying family we didn't see for many months.

We use rvpark reviews for most all of our travels but if we have any questions I usually ask here from people that have actually been there.
One of our priorities is dog friendly. Not that they are just allowed but also has a hundred rules applied, which usually to me means they don't really want them. There needs to be rules but....
One reason we like KOA's is that many have enclosed dog parks, very few other places do. At the end of a long day we can work off their energy and have a happy dog camping with us.

Well congratulations! If anyone has ever watch House Hunters on HGTV then you have seen many people settling in Ecuador, it's a beautiful place that I hope you truly enjoy!
I understand how you feel about the loss of Bella, anytime we play the caregiver for any length of time there is a huge void when it's over so I truly hope this new adventure helps to fill that void, if that's possible.

I am so sorry you have to go through, I truly know how you are feeling and most here do.
I too still have Sofie's hedgehog and I have Zachery's giraffe, I can't bear to part with them and I refuse to let Lucy or Bubba play with them.
Sofie has been gone 5 1/2 years and Zachery less than two years and sometimes it still hurts so much its like it happened yesterday and other times it's like I haven't seen them in forever.
Healing takes forever if at all, sometimes I think I will feel whole again when I get to the Rainbow bridge, until then all you can do is live on and enjoy the pets you have and love now. It's all we can do.

Everyone with a lab...have a biopsy done now!! My vet was convinced that a large growth (that got very large) was a fatty tumor as they are so common in labs. Imagine his and my surprise that it turned out to be a malignant tumor in the sheath on his side...had it removed, radiation...it occurred again 2 years later and had more surgery. Although Max died last Oct., it was from being 13.5 years old, not the cancer. Had I done nothing, he would have lived maybe a year instead of the 4 we got! DO IT NOW!!!
I have no regrets, I'm very happy I did this. We had three removed, one was a (capillary and cavernous hemangioma, ulcerated and inflamed) taken from her pathology report.
I would rather know than just guess so no regrets here.
