RE: New York state CDL requirements

No luck with "search" so I'll ask. Is there a CDL license requirement in NY State for Motorhomes above a certain weight? DMV web site discribes a change to a past change but it isn't clear (to me) what the requirement is. Any Info appreciated. Thanks. NY has an "R" endorsement for Recreation vehicles with or without air brakes... No CDL is required, as a motorhome is not a commercial vehicle...

RE: Entrance door leaks like a sieve at top during the rain.

Anyone know of a small rubber or plastic awning I can install with double sided tape just over the top of the door? I have wind deflectors/rain shields on the windows of my pickup truck and they work fine but I can't find any such thing that would work and look okay on the motor home? Any suggestions to this problem are greatly appreciated. click here rv gutters

RE: Fantastic Vent problem??

Just a thought - did you check the fuse in the fan? Yep, I checked that, too. It works on manual, but not with the thermostat. Rain senser? maybe moisture?

RE: PDANet and 64bit Windows 7

Tanks 1775, that all makes sense to me. I still have the old XP laptop so either I'll carry two laptops in the rig or upgrade the phone. Which then brings me to another question (hopefully not a new thread.) If I do upgrade phones do I need to repurchase PDANet or is my activation code good for the new phone? I kept my original email from June Fabrics containing the registration code... I've since switched laptops and phones, and the code works fine...

RE: Does this look too good to be real?

I do not have the expertise, patience or youth to repair all the apparent damage. That leaking roof vent scares me. It also smelled like mold when I went in. There will be another deal soon. Do not have to have a diesel but that one just seemed like it needed a look at. I really miss not having a RV. Ron Smart man...

RE: Does this look too good to be real?

I am going to look at a 1999 35' Holiday Rambler Endeavor, 1 slide, less than 40k miles, 275 hp Cumming Diesel, 7.5 KW Onan diesel generator, tomorrow that the original owner wants $25,000 for. NADA shows $34,930 low retail and $42,090 average retail. By bet is that at a minimum it will need a new set of tires. What else? Thanks, Ron Maybe the $25k is a firm price? Would you feel better if he/she was asking $35k and you talked them down to $25k? It doesn't hurt to look... Be prepared to walk away if it doesn't meet your expectations... Make a "check list" of things to look for... I would run/test "everything" even the dashboard heat and AC... Good luk,

RE: Gen-Set Engine oil

What a bunch of horse pucky! Do you really think because car # 48, 52 and 75 use xyz synthetic oil, your vehicle will run smoother, faster with less wear & tear? Come On!!! Travelon I have used Synthetic oil in my vehicles since day one.. Ford Escape 198,000 miles and going strong... Ford E250 145,000 miles and going strong... I also use it in all my equiptment... Maybe it's me, maybe it's the oil, maybe it's none of the above... Who cares, I'll take it...

RE: So how do I get Nickerson Beach campground?

Assistance is needed - urgently. I'm getting conflicting info and hope someone can clarify. We are trying to avoid the low bridges and are coming up I-95 to Nickerson Beach campground located at Long Beach on Long Island. STOP!!! Take I95 to the GW bridge, take the cross Bronx expressway and follow signs for the Throgs Neck Bridge. Take the clearveiw expressway south to the Long Island Expressway (I495) Take the LIE east to the Seaford Oyster Bay expressway (Route 135)and head south (as far as you can go) and head west on Merrick Road. Take Merrick road to the Wantagh Pkwy south to Ocean Parkway west... ***NOTE*** (this is the only area you are allowed to drive on the parkways) Take Ocean Pkwy west to Loop Parkway to "Lido Beach/Point Lookout" (stay in middle lane and go under bridge and then exit to the right after the bridge) Make a right on Lido Blvd and Nickerson Beach will be about a half mile on your left. This is your "safest" route to your destination. Long Island is made up of low bridges, parkways and roads with lights every 1/4 mile... You will only hit a few lights on Merrick Road (just for a couple of miles)

RE: Stinky Toilet

We bought a used 5th wheel, 95 fleetwood westport 35ft. As far as we know we are the second owners. We suspect the rig has been setting for a few years. We are from Tucson where there is a lot of sun damage. We are 1st time full time rv'ers, although I have grown up camping with my family. Anyway we can not get rid of our toilet stench. We have tried various holding tank chemicals like, chem, the blue stuff with formaldehyde, camco TST orange drop-ins. We have also bought a cleaning hose with spinning action on the business end. We have tried to flush with at least 100 gallons of fresh water. I swear with each new thing we try the smelly-er it gets. Can anyone help us. We are about to replace the whole tank but don't think we can afford this option! ANY help at all would be appriciated and would NOT fall on deaf ears. Thank-you so very, very much for your attention and support. Marge n Vern Roberts I found we had a "smelly" toilet area shortly after I purchased my Class A last year... This spring, I removed the toilet, took it apart, changed all the gaskets and "cleaned the toilet" inside and out... No more smelly toilet area... and it's very important to make sure the bowl "holds water" as this acts as a "water trap"...

RE: Ideas to exchange $ for RV

First have signed contract agreement between both parties... Then... One check goes to the bank to "payoff" loan. A waiver of lean will be released (this could all be done with overnight mail). Make sure the "payoff" check goes to the company listed on the title as lien holder!!! A second check goes to the seller upon delivery and receipt of waiver of lean (along with a title showing the original lean holder)... Buyer takes possession of RV... The waiver of lean is then attached to the title and is sent in to the state where the vehicle will be registered... A clean title will be mailed to the buyer in a few weeks...

RE: Best time of year to buy used late model class A

In the Northeast, I have made three boat purchases and sold three boats in the fall. I made two Class A purchases and sold one of them in the fall... For me, I have to say "the fall"... My reasoning for purchasing in the fall was to "be ready" when the following season came...(ie: misc touch ups, upgrades, general TLC) and the fact that I have had success selling in the fall, leads me to believe other people think the same... When are all the Northeast RV and Boat shows? In the fall...

RE: Route around NYC area

We're towing a 38 ft FW from Chapel HIll NC to Cape Cod. Staying in Clarksboro NJ one night, then next night in Clinton, CT. Not looking forward to I-95 traffic in the NYC-Newark metro area. Do folks with experience driving in that area recommend taking I-287 from I-95 (near Edison) and going out around the metro area to take the Tappan Zee bridge? Is the extra distance/time worth it? Thanks! Living on Long Island, leaving it can be quite a chore... If possible, plan your trip thru NY during "off peak" hours... Night time? weekend? This area does open up around mid-day, (if you can come through between 11am and 2pm you will encounter minimum traffic... Between 8am-11am and 4pm-7pm are "stay away hours" I95 north over the GW bridge is the shortest route... EZ pass will help (discounted tolls)...

RE: Calling all NY RV'rs

Anyone drive a b+ or C from the new york/long island area? There seems to be a controversy about whether one can drive a motorhome on the cross island parkway. Anyone have any information about this? thanks A conversion Van or a B can go on the parkways... No C's, A's, trucks, trailers or buses on PARKWAYS!!!! You can how ever go "south" of Merrick road on the Wantagh or Meadowbrook pkwy's...(to ocean parkway areas)

RE: New York/New England Campg'd Suggestions Desperately Needed

I am attempting to find a campground for our annual family vacation (which is made up of three families). The facilities need to satisfy a family with small kids, retired grand parents, and one family in between. I am looking for a destination type campground with lots of activities for the kids. Location is less important and anywhere in New York / Mass / Maine / RI / Vermont / etc. will be fine. Any suggestions???? As mentioned Lake George area is nice or you could try Point Sebego in Maine link

Gen-turi generator exhuast system

I went up to Mohegan Sun Casino this past weekend and used my generator a lot. Has anyone used the Gen-turi system or anything similar? I know this is popular with Nascar type camping. Pros? Cons? TIA, shoreco

RE: RV/Marine Gutters... anyone use them?

If anyone is still following this thred, I am happy to say the ez-gutters are a success. They installed fairly easy, they are "stuck on" for good. Windows are "streak free" after two decent rain storms. I highly recommend them. Happy travels,
