Maybe size matters

After reading the "been mugged" thread I begin to wonder if height - for people - suggestions should be posted for B's. B owners seem to be a unique breed; do we look forward to cracking our skulls daily?. Did you consider how you would fit into the B space before you bought?Who is the tallest owner of a B and what do you drive?

RE: Penthouse sleeping platform

Thanks so much Michael. The very next trip that platform is out of there.

Penthouse sleeping platform

Has anyone with a SMB taken out the penthouse platform and driven long distance without it? I never use it and it would streamline setup time. Wondered if it's absence makes for more cabin noise or rattles when driving? Or, any other surprises I haven't thought of. Trying to keep the learning curve short. Thanks in advance for anyone's experience with this.

RE: Been "mugged" by your class B?

Am finding over the years with my B that camping keeps me flexible or at least ambulatory. I've got a penthouse (6"8"open) without upper cabinets but the metal bracket that tie down the roof can pack a wallop. If you forget the SMB-provided padded covers and if you live to talk about it, you only do it once.

Boston area travels

A word in your shell-like ear if you haven't experienced this east coast travel. Drove DE,NJ,NY and I-95N. (Conn's I-95 from Stamford to New Haven would be a great use for stimulus money.)No trouble on the interstates.
But on to N of Boston. Normally, I don't hesitate driving my B(SMB)anywhere, I like to get off main roads & explore. Visited Gloucester and then Salem - not downtown Boston.
My time rule for leaving a congested area is 3:30pm. Works in DC, Seattle, St Louis but in Boston - not. At 3:30 absolute gridlock and nasty drivers (guess I would be if I had to drive in it everday). Signage on smaller roads is sporatic. When road signs exist, they come up fast and no one lets you move over. Prepare to do aggressive, pushy driving. 2 1/2 hr from Salem to Littleton (Minuteman Campground). That's about 26 miles +/-. Maybe the traffic thins out by 8pm? But I'd hate to do that driving in the dark if it didn't.
I love the Boston area but it's going on my "never again" list. I'll wave as I pass it on my way to Maine.

RE: B Plans?

OK, I'm inspired. Heading for AZ in March - first time to see the desert in bloom. Wish it was blooming right now - can't wait to head out!
